as far as I know bvm Aero-poxy and hysol are one in the same. I have been using the hysol from mcmaster carr and BVM short mixing nozzles for abouta year now and they work great. One thing with the shorter nozzles is I find you get a better mix the slowwer you apply the epoxy. Hope that helps.

RE: How are ARF's made?
I was involved with Aviation Models when they were still around distributing the SD-models line of aircraft. I will post a link to the website that gives a pretty good look at a typical arf Factory. This particular factory built arfs for many many distributors here in the states not just Aviation Models. The secret to having them produce a good arf or a not so good arf is all in the design work. Everything for aviation models was laser cut and jig built so everything would be built corectly. Covering was precut to the exact shape needed for each covering scheme. Imagine how much easier it would be for us to cover if everything was pre-cut to the exact shape it needed to be. I remember talking to the owner of the factory and asking him about the working conditions. He said the living conditions by american standards were awefull and much like our jails. However, he said the workers there were very happy and took alot of pride in thier work. They would come to work there with little or no clothes and no food or housing. Here they recieved a bed, warm clean clothes, and were fed during the day. Yes they are probably paid pennies for the work they do but also have a place to stay and able to raise a family there and send thier kids to school. her is a link to some of the pictures. www.aerobaticmodels.com/About/about.html

What brand of prop? Many carbon props are hollow bladed props. Most have these small holes on the back side of the blade mabey 1mm or so in diameter. Pictures would be helpful.

Just remember he does have a sponsor that builds composite planes... And had a major falling out with one of the best wood kit builders out there. I have owned cardens, aviation models arfs, 3w arfs, great planes arfs etc I think they all hold up equally well if you take care of them corectly. Wood is easier to fix in the event of a mishap etc. Personally my favorite is the 3w arfs with a composite fuse and balsa sheeted wings and stabs.

RE: Will TOC-Aviation models survive?
This is the brightest thing I have seen posted here. As far as customer being represented a little more in the transition? Why is it that every former customer of Toc1 and aviation models feels it's thier right to be in the know in the forming of a new company ? Hell the reps have been in the dark on most of this too and they have alot more time and effort in it than any of you do. As a matter of fact this has been and will be a continuing process going forward until the new company is formed and up and running. Until then it is none of our business to tell someone how to run a company that doesn't even exhist yet. (just because they have a website does not mean the company even exhists legally yet.)
ORIGINAL: cloudshaker I've seen so many conflicting statements, The future of SD-Model will be determined on how their customers accept them. If they state lower prices and don't deliver that will cost them, as I am sure they know. As for me I will wait until they open, see how they treat their customers (both previous and future), see what they offer in prices and support and then make a decision whether or not to give them my business. I own 5 A.M. planes now and doing so I have supported them ( including the factory ) up to now. I know a lot of feathers have been ruffled, and I would have liked to have seen the customers represented a little more during this transition with information. but at this point thats all in the past. The bottom line is if you feel that they are fair and reputable support them if you don't move on to another manufacturor, thats what I would do.
RE: Will TOC-Aviation models survive?
SD-models is the factory that has built the planes for toc-1 and aviation models. Toc-Extreame was an atempt by another person affiliated with aviation models to redistribute these planes in the US. Keep in Mind that Toc-1, Aviation models, and Toc-Extreame were just the US distributor of these planes produced by Sd-models in China. The factory owner for many reasons that will not be discussed here has been screwed out of allot of money. He knows he makes a good product as do most of us here. His problem is how does he get the product to the marketplace without the risk of getting screwed a third time. So Sd-model gets together with the only one in the states that can be trusted Garrett. Garrett has been the one to design and test most of the planes we fly today. SD-model will have the same great quality you have come to know in the past. Things are still trying to be sorted out as we speak. Please be patient as Garret is trying his hardest to get things all set up for the future of SD-model. From what it looks like there will be allot of good things to come out of this with much more parts support than was ever possible before. As far as SD-Model not supporting planes purchased from former US distributors goes (toc-1, Aviation models or their distributors). They will not support them because those comapnies are no longer in business. SD-Model is now trying to market these planes direct to you the consumer. Companies go out of business everyday and people are left with little or no parts suport for the products that were purchased from those companies. I am sure you can understand that. However, Parts that are purchased from SD-models will fit planes from the other distributors. So at worst you have to buy something from the new company and move on. That is often not the case when companies go out of business. I like Garret will not post anything else on this subject here. I think the above clears things up pretty good and you all can have an understanding of where SD-Model is and will be going in the future. They realize they are loosing potential sales on a daily basis until things get set up properly. However, when things are set up properly and ready to go the company will be better than you have known in the past.

RE: V-Mar F18 Hornet -any takers yet ?
First of is the covering. from 20 feet away it looked great and really caught my eye. up close it was very rough and pitted like there was no sanding done to the airframe. Or sawdust caught under the covering. it was awefull up close. Again if this was a 200.00 arf I would overlook it but for 350.00 I expect more. Second is the gear. No retracts (yuk) and it reminded me of the gear I made myself for the combat models f-16 (actually that was much better) It is made out of music wire and copper tubing ??? It looked half ass. Tolerable on a 200.00 plane but not on a 350.00 plane The plane did seem very light but I could just not pony up the 350.00 when the cermark f-16 looks so much better and comes with retracts etc.

I saw the vmar f-18 in person at the local hobby shop. My first impresion when I saw it was wow. That was from about 20' I was thinking it was somewhere in the 199.00 price. When I got up close I was not sure I would pay 199.00 but said hey if the price is right I may give it a shot. When i was told it was 349.00 I said no way.... It is not worth that pricetag. at 199.00 I could have been convinced but even at that price it would have been a hard sell. for the price I am in complete agreement on the cermark f-16 !!!

RE: PT Model Propellers
Well you got alot more than the 20 or so flights I got on my 32 x 10 before both trailing edges completly delaminated. From tip to hub. You cannot tell there is a problem unless you twist the tip a little and you see the back of the prop open up. I called troybuilt today and they said it is a problem on some of the 32x10 props. Bill said to send it in and he will replace it. The batch they have in now have more glue in the trailing edges than the ones with the problem. We'll see. I love the prop but I am not about to start replacing a $105.00 prop every 20 flights.
ORIGINAL: Geistware I have a Mejzlik 26x10 with 230+ flights on it and the tips are fraying as well. I usually wick think CA in the tips. I assume it is from the tips ripping from time to time.
ORIGINAL: cbk07 Guys, be careful with these props and inspect them regularly. There have been a handful of them that have started to delaminate/come apart. There is a thread about it on Flying Giants and I personnally witnessed it this weekend on a 32x10 PT. On the one I saw, both trailing edges were split wide open

District 1 Minifest CANCELLED this weekend
Wintonbury Flying Club IMAA MINI-FEST CANCELLED It is with great disappointment that Wintonbury Flying Club and the Connecticut IMAA have decided that the IMAA Mini-Fest scheduled for this Saturday and Sunday, September 2 and 3, is cancelled. The Club’s field is already sodden and the high winds and heavy rain forecast for this weekend make cancellation the only responsible decision. This year’s Mini-Fest will not be rescheduled. Whether or not you were planning to come or fly, if you know someone who was planning to fly or just watch, especially people who are not members of WFC and who will not receive this message, please call or email them to tell them of the cancellation. Please ask whoever you contact with this notice to call anyone they know who was planning to come but who is not a WFC member and pass the word on. The Club’s thanks go to Chris DeConti and Ron and Joan Liska and all those who helped them organize this event; to all those who volunteered to help with during the event; to the sponsors; and to all who planned to participate in what, in the past, have been two great days of fun. I have one without baffles and have had no cooling issues what so ever. A friend of mine has one and he simply cut two 1/2 circles out of black foam board and glued them into the from of the cowl from the inside using goop. He left about a 2" space between them for air to run over the cylinder heads.

RE: Aviation Model TOC 30% YAK-54 Chief yellowing paint.
The clearcoat they(all arf manufacturers) use in china is not the best. They do not have the UV resistance technology we have here in the states. A simple but effective fix it to spray it with a uv resistant clear over the exhisting clear. It will prevent it from further yellowing.

RE: 8611 question
I am not an expert here but I do believe you would NOT want to run 1 8611 and one 8611a on the same controll surface as I believe on is a tad faster than the other. As far as putting 8611's on one wing and 8611a's on the other that should not be a problem at all as both sides will be matched for speed etc. One wing will have more touque than the other but not a big deal.
