RE: Futaba Links and Horns
Nuno We will have to agree to disagree, the more threads per depth, the more cross sectional area you have for frictional grip, that is why BSP, UNF and Whitworth are not used anymore in more forward looking scientific aplications, when you put tension onto a finer thread it will lock more readily. RE: P-80SE putting out little flames
The P80 has always had flame from about the 5 o/c position its a product of the turbine flame front from the injectors, don't worry about it, its normal. Mike

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
The main difference between IC and Electric is with IC you do not get instant power when you open the throttle and the possible trim change as fuel is used, other than that they fly the same, in fact a big Electric Warbird is much harder to fly than this thing and when you land its lighter and more manouverable. I fly a Com-ARF 2.12M Extra on a Pletanberg and 10S and the only difference between it and a petrol powered version is the weight and speed when landing, you have to land faster with the Electric version. RE: Futaba Links and Horns
ORIGINAL: jetnuno [;)]Mike 4-40 rods have 40 threads per inch thus making 15,7 threads per centimeter M3 rods have 20 threads per centimeter, but the thread depth is much less, thus making it more prone to rip. Regards Nuno
Still does not compute the more threads per centimeter the greater the cross sectional area taking the load, in Europe M3 rods and links have been used for years in all sizes and types of airframes and I have never heard or had a failier due to the rods ripping out of the ball link. RE: Elan Has Arrived!
Carsten I started with 2.4ghz on the Spektrum DX7 and modules as soon as it came out, brown out issues still exist, the Rx just boots quicker after it has switched itself off?????? then I tried the Graupner IFS system (XPS in US) Locked out four times in the first flight sent back for refund and I got my monies back, not a credit note, but cash, I now fly Futaba FASST without any issues, personally I think the Weattronics is overkill for what I fly and there have been software issues since it came out, so I will stick with the FASST system for now. One other thing to take into account is that Dreamworks are Imperial and Digitech are Metric so Allen keys for one will not fit the other, I find that very annoying having to have two sets of tools just to accomadate an outmoded measuring system. TVFIC [;)] Mike
ORIGINAL: smchale So to use these we'll need to find M3 rod ends? Shame we can't stick with our standard 2-56, 4-40, 6-32, etc...
The shame is that the US don't conform to the rest of the world, unfortunatly the US being such a prolific consumer most ARTF's are set up for 2-56, 4-40, 6-32 etc, so the rest of us have to throw away most of the hardware supplied in our ARTF's and buy new, or have two sets of tools which is most annoying, because you always find the one you don't want, LOL Not trying to start an argument, just a statement of fact. RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet
Dave Had a look at that, they look just like the Digitech disc brakes if so they aren't that unique LOL the only thing I would question is if you are going to fly off grass, in which case I would recommend going for the Digitch trailing struts rather than the Dreamworks Olio's, the traling struts transfer much less stress into the fixing points and wing on bumpy ground the Dreamworks Olio's can only disipate any bending load straight into the airframe. RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet
I don't have a comparison on the Falcon gear only on my Elan units, the Dreamworks wheels and brakes are Intairco which are expanding O ring brakes so only apply pressure at the moving piston positions via the O rings, the Digitech brakes are a full moving plate pushing a disc of braking material up against the inside of the wheel hub, in effect a disc brake, I will weigh the Elan gear this afternoon when I get into the workshop and let you know the difference. RE: Futaba Links and Horns
ORIGINAL: jetnuno Thanks for the replies.... Ron - What servo arms are you measuring? the ones in the photo or the extra long arms from Dubro? Those 2 are different. Mike - M3 is slightly bigger than 4-40, but the thread of the 4-40 is better to make links. The thread is deeper, thus making it less prone to rip regards Nuno
That does not compute, if you tap a 4-40 thread out larger too M3 you will have more threads per inch and therefore a greater bearing area, what you must not do is the other way around which is what was suggested in the previous post, if you tap a larger thread out to a smaller dia you are asking for it to rip straight out of the ball link, I am afraid you have that back too front. RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet
ORIGINAL: ticketec
ORIGINAL: Aussie1 Dave, I tried building my own oleos and had mixed success. Several weeks ago I ordered a set from Dreamworks in Florida, which were designed for the Falcon. They cut them down for me to 15.5cm, because the stock kit legs are too long, being designed for a pusher prop. They are very well made and quite cheap because of the strong Aussie dollar. My retracts are heavy duty Robarts.
Hey Aussie1 yeah, the more i look at it the more i think that the dreamworks retracts are going to be the way to go... I have nothing as yet for this model, so the ''combo'' would be the one for me. Just have to see if i buy them pre-christmas. Thanks dave
The Pro lynkx gear from Digitech is lighter and has more progressive brakes, with an airframe that is this light it may pay to go lighter. Miek

RE: Boomerang Sprint Build Thread!
I think the sprint comes with a fixed piano wire UC as standard, but they look so much better with the gear tucked away and there is a marked increase in speed when they are retracted, definately go for the Trailing links if you are flying from any sort of rough patch, Digitech or Dreamworks the desicion is yours, but my Digitechs have outlasted the Dreamworks on my Elan. RE: Futaba Links and Horns
Wherever I can I use ball links, no slop and takes up any missalignement without complaint, I have been making double surface horns for my airframes for about 3 years now and have noticed more and more ARTF's now come with them they know a good thing when they see it. RE: 120 SX
Mine is slightly distorted as well, the bolt is the only thing that stops the turbine from moving inside the clamp, no matter what you do the turbine always moves a bit so the casing around the bolt takes a bit of thrust from the turbine and will distort the case eventually. I know lots will say do this and that to stop it moving and I have tried most solutions, but have now resigned myself to it moving a little anyway. Mike

RE: Boomerang Nano!!!
Sandor Not true of the Jettronics low loss air valve, it will hold at whatever brake position you have the slider, full down on my slider leaves the brake on and loss of air from full on too full off only uses about 10psi. Mike

RE: Boomerang Nano!!!
Steve I have my brakes connected to a side slider so the amount of pulses are proportional to how fast I move the slider, I don't know how it performs on a switched channel, but I assume that if each pulse is on then the faster pulses will produce more braking effect. Mike
