RE: Maine Jet Rally
Many thanks to Ray, the folks at Horizon .... and the many other participants and helpers that made this one fantastic event. Though I have seem many videos of night flying .... I was AMAZED when I saw it in person on Saturday night. Here is a short video from my on-board camera of the site. Bob http://youtu.be/QJTt65a1E

RE: 12 Inch Pilots for 1/5 Scale ? ? ?
It is an L-39 jet and the fuse is pretty wide in the cockpit area .... around 8 inches or so I think (I'm at work and will check it later). I'm affraid that the 12 inch high pilots will look to small in proportion (as far as their head and body size). Bob

RE: 12 Inch Pilots for 1/5 Scale ? ? ?
Since body and head proportion play into it as well ..... then I am thinking that a 12 inch pilot is not a good choice for a 1/5 scale plane ..... do you agree ? Thanks. Bob

12 Inch Pilots for 1/5 Scale ? ? ?
I am in need of pilots for a 1/5 scale plane. I have seen many 12 inch pilots .... but not many around 13 inches (which is closer to 1/5 scale). Do 12 inch pilots look to small in a 1/5 scale plane ? Bob

RE: Reaction 54 with HD Camera
The mount is made of lite-ply (1/4 inch thick for bottom, 1/8 inch thick for sides). The R54 canopy is a great attachment point for it ... because the canopy itself is sturdy (fiberglassed 1/4 inch balsa). I used blind nuts on the inside. I figured the R54 would be a good airplane for this camera ... (the R54 could probably carry a full size network camera .... ) This camera model also has GPS. When the video is downloaded using their (Contour) software, a window is displayed showing the track and speed. The track is placed over a Google map. (I haven't figured out yet how to get that GPS window into a video). The GoPro is actually a more popular camera of this type. I went with Contour because of its smaller frontal area/profile. I will experiment further with the different resolutions and frame rates. Bob

RE: Massachusetts Welcomes Another Waivered Jet Pilot
Congratulations Jason ! ! ..... you have progressed amazingly over the past few months. Now that you have your waiver you might want to consider making a few bad landings (on purpose) once in a while .... so some of us older pilots don't feel so bad. Also, great job by Mike and Jeff and Frank (and others) that providing the great training and advice. Bob S.

Flip (flat/thin camera) or GoPro ?
I'm looking to purchase a video camera to mount on my plane. Plane is large so camera weight is not really an issue. I was considering one of the flat-type cameras (like the Flip) and was going to mount it on the side of the fuselage ..... (the video footage would be side facing in flight, not forward facing). The Flip and other cameras like this are very thin (less drag and would be fairly easy to mount). Has anyone tried using a Flip or other flat/thin camera of this type ? Is the GoPro the better choice/option ? Thanks. Bob

The Jetronics valves are very light. They are electronic and do NOT need a servo. The Jetronics electronic sequencer is also very light and compact. Bob

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?
Hello all, I am finally starting to assemble my L39 (GJC version) and I have a few questions ..... Should I replace the main gear door cylinders with larger ones (Robart ones, 1/2 inch in diameter are presently installed) ? Any issues/concerns with the aileron servos in the tip tanks ? Or should I mount them in the wing (making a mod similar to what I did with the rudder servo) ? Thanks. Bob

RE: Bonding Aluminum - JB Weld or Aeropoxy ?
Yes Rodney, it is primarily compression. It is to add a shim if aluminum (about 1/8 inch) to a square shaft that will be inserted into an elevator .... with a rectangular opening. Even as is, having the square shaft going into the rectangular opening, it will still probably function fine. But I prefer to have the entire cavity filled .... thus the reason for the shim. The main reason for my post, was really to see if Aeropoxy was suitable for an aluminum to aluminum bond. I have used Aeropoxy for many years to bond lite-ply formers to fiberglass (it is fantastic). And, in all the years of modeling I have actually never used (tried) JB Weld. I was amazed how strong the JB Weld is ! ! I can't get the scrap pieces I used in my test apart (by hand) .... so I'm really not sure which is stronger ..... by for my present application, they are both plenty strong. Thanks. Bob

RE: Bonding Aluminum - JB Weld or Aeropoxy ?
It is just to attach a shim to take up some space. I decided to perform a test myself. This is 1/8 by 1/2 inch aluminum stock. One piece attached with JB Weld, the other with Aeropoxy. I could not detach either piece by hand.

Carb Setting Question (ZEN 26)
Have a new ZEN 26. On ground, and in air on first (only) flight, it ran fine .... but on final when I reduced to idle, it quit. I did not adjust the needle valves .... they are still where they were out-of-the-box. I did notice on the ground that RPM is not increasing as much above half throttle (half stick) as it does below half stick .... even though throttle arm movement is roughly the same each side of half stick. Perhaps this is normal ? ? (I'm new to gas). Is perhaps this a sign of a rich ?, or lean ? mixture ? Or should I just leave all as is .... and expect that it may not quit on subsequent flights as the engine breaks in ? (I was using a 16X10 prop, and a 32:1 oil ratio). Thanks. Bob

RE: Fuel Tank Venting
Thanks Zeeb, that is very helpful. What about where the vent tube exits. Is it OK if the vent exit is in the airstream ..... or should it sort of be shielded a bit ..... perhaps placed inside the cowl so that the amount of air passing it is minimized ? Bob
