RE: MGT 8.0 vs GST 7.7 vs Savage X 4.6?
Yeah, that's how people are able to do front and back flips. You just stay on the throttle and your RC will do a complete revolution. However, 4WD's do it MUCH better since they spin all four tires.[;)]

Looks like a good mod!!! I broke a lot of them at first, because I was always flipping it over due to the crazy power, but now I rarely break BM's since I almost never crash. I might have to do this though, next time I break a BM.

WAY too rich by the looks of it to me. Mine never has that much smoke coming out of the pipe. It's an 8.0, no matter what it's going to wheelie, you just have to learn throttle control and how to be real smooth with the trigger.

RE: 4.6 or tmaxx?
I would go with an MGT 8.0, it's got enough better parts on it over the 4.6 to EASILY make it worth a hundred dollars more. If you don't get an 8.0 my second choice would be a Losi XXL, but that's WAY expensive. The T-Maxx would be the last MT I would ever buy. Their is a reason they make all of the hop ups for them, because they NEED them. An MGT 8.0 only needs to have FT shock caps added and it's darn near bulletproof with proper driving!

^ +1 The higher you jump the easier it is to land right. What's the big air jump record? My MGT 8.0 has seen about 12 feet in height and 60+ feet in length in one jump.[:D] I wouldn't hesitate to jump it 50 ft high and 200 feet in length if that's what I need to do to have the record!![:)]

RE: Unglueing tires!!
Boiling tires is easy and works great. This is the method I use and it's NEVER an issue. Fill a pot with water and turn the heat on it. Next put a cap full of bleach in the water. Next, put in the tire. Now put the lid on the pot and let it come to a boil; once it's boiling it'll take about fifteen minutes for the tire to be ready to be removed. Pull the tire out of the water and pull the tire carefully from the rim(use plastic gloves while doing this or you'll get burned). Put the tire back in the water and let it boil for about 2-5 minutes again and then the other side will pull off. The key to doing this is working QUICKLY once you've pulled the tire out of the water or they don't pull off as easy when it starts to cool. Keep in mind this will ruin a chrome finish on a wheel, but it doesn't do ANYTHING to white, yellow, or other solid molded in color wheels. You can save some big bucks over time using this method. Tires and rims rack up some cost quickly, especially 1/8th scale!!

RE: MGT 8.0 vs GST 7.7 vs Savage X 4.6?
I haven't shimmed my diffs and I've had no problems with them. However, I think that is kind of a hit or miss issue on MGT's. Some seem to blow the diffs right away if you don't shim them, and some seem to last gallons and gallons with no issues. I figure I'll run mine as is until/if they blow and then upgrade to GPM aluminium diff housings and cases.[;)]

RE: vintage rc official old school thread
Many people think that all open endbell motors are "rebuildable", but many are classified as "non-rebuildable". This doesn't mean you can't rebuild them, it's just a little more of a pain. The can should have some metal tabs that are crimped over the endbell and if you pry those up the endbell will come out. Once you put it back together you just bend the tabs back down. It sounds like you have the "non-rebuildable" type.

RE: MGT 8.0 vs GST 7.7 vs Savage X 4.6?
I have an MGT and haven't really had too many problems with it at all, especially considering how hard I abuse it!!![:D] Anyway, the FT shock caps are a must, but you've bought them. Buy RPM a-arms now or later, but you will need them eventually. Change the spring to AT LEAST a red spring or even higher spring rate. Put 50-60w oil in the shocks. The Nova head is nice, I have one, and it does help to be able to run the truck a lot more lean and get better fuel mileage. I bought FT titanium turnbuckles, but it's only 'cause I found a deal on ebay where they were 75% off the regular price and still NIP. I'd like to get the FT steering bellcrank, but I haven't yet. Steering is the ONE area where the MGT is kind of crappy.[8|] The only really needed mods though are the shock caps, shock oil, and springs.

RE: OFFICIAL MONSTER GT 8.0, MMGT FORUM
Once you learn how to handle the power it's fine as is, but you could put a bigger CB on it if you wanted. I wouldn't get the extenders, instead, spend your money on springs and shock oil. Keep tuning the suspension until you get it how you like it. Generally, one red spring at each corner and 50-60w shock oil will all but cure the flippiness the truck has fresh out of the box. The stock radio works great and you shouldn't have to buy a different one unless you want a lot of different telemetry. I would buy FT aluminium shock caps right away too.

Yeah, he must be talking about an MGT .21. The 8.0 is all steel and the only way to break it is by being stupid and shifting from forward to reverse while under power. I love mine, but I've had a couple of issues with it. I excuse them though because I beat my 8.0 VERY HARD!!!!!!![:D] For the most part it always takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'. I would skip right over the MGT 4.6 and go with the 8.0. The 8.0 is a lot better truck for not much more money. Stay away from Traxxas. By the way, their is a general monster truck forum, you just need to scroll down![:)]

RE: i need help deciding
I'd stay away from Traxxas. If you can find the XXL for a good price than that is a good one to buy, but I hear their are a couple of issues with them. The MGT series of trucks is also a nice line up. I personally own an 8.0 and it's nearly indestructible out of the box. The XXL has a nicer radio, but the MGT 8.0's is the second best radio of all the RTR monsters you can buy. The 8.0 has more power than the XXL and from what I've heard is a little tougher and more reliable. They're both great trucks though.

RE: aluminum parts vs plastic parts
IMO, if you can buy the part from RPM, then buy the RPM part. I've never seen an RPM piece break and the lifetime warranty is very comforting. I, for the most part, don't like using much aluminium. Hub carriers, a-arm mounts, and a few other random pieces are nice to have in aluminium for both rigidity, lack of wear, and durability. Aluminium shock towers, a-arms, bumpers, etc... aren't really necessary and will probably just end up getting bent eventually. Aluminium is also almost always going to be heavier than it's plastic or carbon counterparts.

Something isn't right. Quit running it until you figure it out or you're going to cook that engine REAL quick! It sounds to me like you have an air leak and it's running over lean because of it. Do this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epEGetU7NFU then do this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xwDy-I0Z4I&feature=related I hope this helps and you find your problem.

RE: having trouble breaking in new engine in my rustler
What method are you using for break in? The heat cycle method works the best IMO. To do this, you fire up the engine and let it warm up, once it's warm you drive it around at 1/4 - 1/2 throttle (give it a little more throttle with every tank, but start at 1/4 max on tank one). Make sure it always runs pig rich!! Once it's up to operating temps 220-260 and the tank has run out shut it down and let it cool all of the way back down. Make sure to put your piston at BDC(bottom dead center) after you shut the engine down. After about 5-6 tanks it should be pretty freed up and ready to go. I would baby it just a little bit though, until you've got 3/4 gallon through it or more. By this I mean no WOT runs down the street or anything. Try and only occasionally bump WOT.

Try looking in Tower at Sullivan products. They make all kinds of different fuel tanks for planes. Other places will sell them, but you can do the search for it the easiest on Tower and then just copy the manufacturer part number and punch that in at different online HS'. RE: charger?
That charger does look a little weak. With a charger, especially when charging lipo's, it's not a good place to skimp. I would save a little more money and get something better. Usually for around $90-110 you can find pretty good chargers. I use an MRC 977. It does everything I need except balance, but I have an equinox balancer I plug in to take care of that. The whole setup all together is about $135 and I LOVE it!!!! The older MRC's weren't very good for charging lipo, but they've fixed that issue now and I've never had one problem charging ANY kind of battery properly with it. I use it for NiCd, NiMh, Lipo, and Rx packs and it charges all of them beautifully. My batteries also last MANY charge cycles using this charger. If you want to get a whole bunch of good answers to this, post a question on what charger to get in the "batteries and chargers" forum. Their are a lot of really helpful people on there that helped me out a great deal when I first got back into the hobby.

I'm not familiar with that charger, but it looks like it'll either automatically balance it, or you can program it to balance. However, I want to make sure you realize it's a DC ONLY charger. It won't charge off of 110 without hooking up a power supply. I assume you knew that, but I just wanted to make sure.[;)]

Check A-main hobbies, My atomic hobbies, stormer hobbies, RC planet, and The Toyz. They are all good online hobby shops and they all have great prices. Make sure and shop through all of them though, as they're all cheapest on different parts. I'm not sure what pipe would fit your MMGT with a .21. Is it going to be rear exhaust? I think their is already a post somewhere in one of the threads about someone putting a tuned pipe on their MMGT that had a .21. Do a search and you should be able to find it. I'd give you some more help, but I don't own an MMGT so I don't know what all parts fit it. Also, don't forget to always check ebay, you can get great deals lots of the time and ALMOST everyone on their is honest and forthright.

I am almost positive they made a long and short chassis version of the T3 as well. You can't buy the T3 chassis new anymore, but if you search around on ebay and some of the vintage parts hobby shops you should be able to find one fairly easily. I am also almost positive the T4 chassis will NOT work on a T3.
