RE: Hitec 2.4 conversion
Brendan, Thanks for the input. I eventually set up my 2 receivers using the Prism 7 set modified as per the advice in this forum. When I first plugged the module into the Eclipse, no light would come on at all. However after linking the receivers into the module, I transferred it to the Eclipse and it all worked fine. Next time I get a 2.4 gHz receiver I will try again and link it using the Eclipse and see what happens, regards, Phil

Hi A.T. I'm happy to report both the eclipse and Prism are woring with the 2.4 Ghz unit. The grounding alteration didi it for thhe Prism and the shift for the Eclipse. I wonder how long it would have taken me to sort all that out in the days before forums?? Many thanks, Phil

Gene, you're a genius! I scraped away the contact between pins 3 and 4 and hey presto! I have a working 2.4Gig module on my Prism 7! easy when you know how. All I have to figure out now is why my Eclipse won't work. Its on PPM now I need to cherck the negative shift thing and then lets see. I'll keep you posted in case that doesn't work, many thanks again,. Phil

RE: Hitec 2.4 conversion
Wheelsdown (Gene), quick question. After breaking the connection between pins 3 and 4 do you know if the regular 72 MHZ (individual channel or synthesized ) modules will still work? Also is the resistor optional or a must? Sorry if the question is a dumb one but I'm electronics illiterate (good with wood though!) thanks, Phil

RE: Hitec 2.4 conversion
Hi, I just bought a 2.4GHz adapter kit that comes with two 7 Ch receivers from Tower Hobbies. I have a Hitec Prism 7 and Eclipse7 transmitters both of which have worked fine for years with the spectra, 72MHz and 35 MHZ modules (I used to live in the UK)I have for them. I attached the aerial and plugged in the 2.4 GHz module in as per the instructions and then followed the steps for setting up the Transmitter Receiver link in Normal Mode (press the button on the module, switch on then release the button etc) • On the Eclipse set neither of the LED lights (Blue or Red )come on • On the Prism set the red LED light comes on but is not flashing. The blue light does not light up on either set On the receivers, again I followed the instructions, pressed the button and then plugged in the battery, then released the button. On both receivers the red light came on and flashes but nothing else happens. From the posts above I see I may have to do some work on the Prism 7 but I am at a loss to understand why the Eclipse 7 won't work at all when it works fine with a spectra or 72 MHz module plugged in the back??? any ideas? By the way I also plugged in a receiver battery and servos to the receivers to check if the connection had already been set up but the servos did not move when I moved the sticks so I guess not. Phil

RE: Help with battery plugs
Thanks. I think it makes sense. Like you said I'm a bit nervous about setting my house or myself on fire but I will study up as you suggest and see what I can do. One thing that confuses me is that the different LiPo brands/balance charging plugs seem to have different numbers of wires coming out of the battery even though they have the same number of cells. I guess the article will tell me how to handle that but it doesn't immediately seem like they are going to be compatible. But anyway if I can make it work that's the way I'll go, Thanks again, Phil

RE: Help with battery plugs
Hi, Like the first poster I am just moving into Electric and LiPos. My first impression is that most battery makers should be lined up against the wall and shot!! Would it be too difficult for any 2 suppliers in our hobby to use the same kind of plugs. I bought a bunch of adapters with my LiPo Charger (FMA Direct Cellpro). The charger is great and easy to use but none of the adapters available will charge this new Tera Hobby Lipo I bought for my 3d Electric. The LiPo looks great and is 1300 mAh for a size you would normally get 950 or so but without a plug, its useless. The question is does anyone know where I can get something to adapt this plug to one of the more recognised plugs (Thunder Power, Align, Flightpower, etc) or failing that where i can get an Align plug (which is a 3 wire for 2 cells LiPo plug like the Tera Hobby one). Any help or advice would be most welcome as this LiPo is useless until I find a way to charge it and I don't want to buy a Tera Hobby charger just for one LiPo!! thanks guys in advance And remember, the fact that average guy is really dub means that half of them are even dumber!!

RE: L-200MORAVA
Hi, I see these threads are old but I'm interested in this aircraft too. I saw it on the screensaver of a czech colleague and it turns out he got his czech PPL on this type. That was probably only something you could do there as I don't know of anyone in my country who got their PPL on a twin! Anyway. I love the "spare [art surgery description above and indeed I do see the Dove engine pods, Cessna 310 nosewheel, etc. I have just sent off for the 2 meter version. Does anyone know if there is a commercially available 310 of about the same size (the objective been to track down the nosewheel retract). The mains are a bit trickier but not that visible so a bit of cheating may be the order of the day there. If anyone has any info/photos of the type or any experience of building the German plan (2 metre version) then I'd be happy to hear from you, best regards, Phil

Hi Guys, thanks for the tips and the Ben Diss contact would be welcome. If anyone wants to post a photo of their installation for clarification that would be welcome too. While we are on the subject. Although I'm not planning on doing the flying, any more do's and don'ts for aerotowing that can be passed on to our budding tow pilot?. For example, what will you notice different about aerotowing. any special flying tips. Any manoevers to avoid whilst towing (apart from the double immelman of course!!), differences upwind and downwind, etc and how do you learn to tow without putting someones much loved glider at risk? many thanks, Phil

Aerotow Hookup help
Hi, I'm putting together a 1/4 scale cub for a clubmate who wants to learn to be the towmaster for us and so encourage new glider flyers to the club. I have built a lot of large aircraft but never an aerotower. First up I'm planning a Zenoah 45 instead of the Saito 270 twin I have in my 1/4 Cub. Does that sound right? Secondly I would really appreciate some photos of the towplane release mechanism of current towers out there. I understand it needs to be topside and ideally between C of G and trailing edge or just behind TE if that can't be done but shots of installation and amount of reinforcement needed would help. Also, do you toweres releae the line with a small 'chute on it or land with it still attached? thanks in advance, Phil

Cesar. Here they are. On the last post I clicked a wrong button and lost all the uploads. The cat saw me do it and then ran for it. I think it saved his life!! On one of these pictures you can see the rough die cutting. Its not all like that just here and there and I don't think it will affect the build too much. By the way this is a BIG model!!

RE: Buiding pics Waco YMF-5 Barth Modellbau
Hi Cesar, This is the first time I try to post a picture and it seems very slow and only allows me to post them one at a time. So I have many more photos of the Stearman kit for you but if you email me and send me your email maybe its easier to send them like that. The kit is very complete with comprehensive hardware and wheels. Even it includes the pinking tape fr the rib stitching and a good supply of litho plate for the panels. The wood seems good quality but some of the die cutting is a little rough (die-crunching). Overall however it looks like a good and fairly straightforward build. It coes with a big Aluminium cowl if you want to make a suoer stearman or a version without the motor exposed. This is for the guys who can't afford a big radial I guess. I may be one of them. Lets see!!

Redcesar, Big boy99. Dis you consider the Balsa USA 1/3 scale Stearman as a next project. I have one still in the box and it looks to be a beauty. The only problem of course is the engine which really has to be a radial or a very ingenious disguise. One advantage of this kit is you can buy the kit with the undercarriage already set up and sodered which saves time building the necessary jig. Just a thought

RE: need help finding Cessna skymaster kit
I have built both the Royal and the Aviomodelli. The royal is a balsa work of art. If you are a balsa basher then go for it but to describe it as a kit is perhaps stretching a point. Its a plan with the right amount of balsa to make the subject from and the main shapes cut out. the builder still has a lot to do though. I enjoy that but not everyone does. the Aviomodelli is a semi kit. The fuse and booms are definiyely a kit but the wings are foam and already covered in a plastic like coating. The fuse is basically a pre-jigged plywood affair. It goes together quickly and easily but is very heavy. Judicious lightening is advised and possible. With some TLC a decent effort can be made and its a nice size of aircraft too (the royal is a bit small and twitchy). If you are a mega scale buff you'll need to do quite lot to the Aviomodelli to get a really scale look. I'm not that fanatical and it looks just fine in the air. I'd say the Aviomodelli is great if you like to build but have limited time. It is not however almost ready to fly!!! I have a link to an online build somewhere . If you're interested I'll look it up, cheers, "Bogies at 10 o'clock...tally Ho!"

RE: Hobby Lobby Cessna Skymaster Disaster
Hi, glad to have found this thread. Got one of these from Germany on Ebay. It came with zero instructions (but yes it was cheap!). the ebay blurb said it comes with 5 servos, a speed controller, but no receiver, however I can see the last few inches of an aerial poking out of the tail boom so I'm not so sure... My problem is that I have no info on the speed controllers in there and don't know what the stock power pack is supposed to be fro those motors. can someone who got the full package please fill me in on the standard configuration? The space for the battery pack is a cube so its obviously some kind of square battery pack, which I guess I'd have to make up as I haven't seen many that shape on the market (am I looking in the wrong place?). I like the idea of 2 small LiPos and brushless outrunners with separate speed controllers . Would the gentleman who was planning that like to tell me which motors, controllers and LiPos he was thinking of for this application? thanks, Phil

RE: best lipo charger?
Pete, thanks for the info. By the way the I chose the Barling Bomber because the boldness of the man just astounds m. It is testament to the enterprising (although probably badly misplaced) confidence and spirit of someone with no grounding in Aeronautics but the Ba**s to go and build something like that. My clubmates suggest I chose the name out of sympathy because my aircraft are also heavy and ugly. I deny this of course. take care, Phil

RE: best lipo charger?
Actually Bad Daddy I have to take issue. In a perfect world you would be right but when you add the 20% of pepole who don't know what they are buying, the 20% of people who do, but don't know what they want to do with it, the 20% who believe they can get something for nothing, the 20 % who are dedicated cheapskates and finally the 20% who just might know what they are doing, it comes to 120% which just goes to prove my point that it ain't a prefect world. Actually I find people buy inferior products all the time knowing very well they are inferior (although sometimes hoping they might get away with it) for all sorts of reasons...like price for instance......

RE: best lipo charger?
Pete, your comment seems to reveal you know something about LiPos. I have many years in RC but all with combustion engines of various types. I am more than confused by the world of electrics as well as not having a great academic grounding in the terminology of electricity (which doesn't help) so when I read the electronic shorthand which most folks "in the know" speak, I get rapidly lost. I have built an aircraft which I am looking to power with an Evo 30 3200 mAh Powerpack at 11.1v. This is a 3 celled pack and comes with a cell balancing connector. I used to think the idea of having a gallon of nitro in my car scared me but not compared with the stories of exploding LiPos. They do scare me so what I need for this is a foolproof LiPo charger for up to 3 cells which will take the guesswork out of it. Preferably I'd also like something that comes with a 12v adapter that can be plugged into the wall as well as the standard 12 volt lead battery (I mostly charge my packs at home). Can you, or any reader give me any advice or recommend something to me. I won't say money no object but I am prepared to pay for quality and to avoid a dangerous incident, many thanks, Phil

Cesar, Dany the tape is called Pinked tape. It is so called because it is made with Pinking Shears which is the name for the zig zag scissors which tailors use to cut these zig-zag lines. There are one or two US suppliers I know who can supply it including I believe, Nelson hobby supplies. Tony Clark would be quicker but Let me know if you need details, best regards, Phil

Hi Cesar, The 2.4 Ghz IS now being advertised in the British R/C press and is or will very soon be available for most makes, Futaba, JR, for sure, others I don't know yet. It should now be available generally in Europe although it is very new. It is supposed to be very safe against Interference, Receiver aerials are also much smaller. I think it would allow you to use your rib stitiching approach however I see above that people are offering you some alternatives so it may not be an issue, all the best, Phil
