RE: Southeastern Electric Aircraft Rally
Sounds good to me. See you guys there.

RE: all my servos jitter when I turn on the radio
Well if its not a Futaba reciever, you can't use PCM. If its shift selectable make sure its negative shift. If its autoshift it should respond after a few seconds when it picks up the shift direction Sounds to me like its a positive shift receiver if the crystal is indeed the correct channel, that would explain whats going on.

RE: Spektrum not binding
Make sure the transmitter is in PPM mode. Thats a per-model memory setting and if its a 9CHP or 9CAP then it will default on a new model to PCM. To properly bind, plug the bind plug into the batt/bind slot, plug a battery into any other servo port. Turn the trasnsmitter on and hold down the bind button. Also make sure there's a few feet between your radio and model when you try it.

RE: Air vs. Heli radios
Thats funny cuz most 3D plank pilots that fly one of my Yaks want the smooth throttle on their transmitters. I have a 9303 heli and I fly everything, 3D gassers, electrics, sailplanes and helis on it.

RE: Air vs. Heli radios
ORIGINAL: Allfat Sometimes the switches are in different positions. If you are thinking about flying a helicopter, then I would get teh heli version of the radio. It will work fine for the airplane, but with helis you usually have to flip some switches and they are convenient on the heli version. It will work to fly a heli with an airplane radio, but it might be a little more difficult.
Yep. Its easier to fly a plane on a heli radio than a heli on an airplane radio though they can both technically do either in most cases (most modern computer radios have the software for both)

Something like that is impressive, Darrell Sprayberry brought a 1/4 scale electric Vario Jet Ranger to our fly in (and IRCHA). It's doublely impressive in person. I'll post a couple pics when I get home from work

RE: Is a Futaba 500 mah battery sufficient for a 9CHP transmitter?
I use a 3S outrage transmitter lipo and charge it about once a month. The stock battery was useless for me, if I took out my glider and had a decent day the battery was shot in 3 flights and I couldn't fly anything else. If you don't want to mess with a Lipo get one of the NoBS backs referenced above.

RE: Lipo charging
Storage = weeks + LiPos have minimal self discharge (they can but do so at a much reduced rate compared to Nickel batteries) so charging them a week or 2 in advance is no big deal and they will be ready to go on flying day. Short answer, I do the same thing.

RE: NEXUS V. CONCEPT 30
ORIGINAL: Cyberfyn Hi. I'd give them both a miss now. Both have been out of production for many years and the parts availablity is a major problem now. I still run a Concept SR-T in my fleet and it's a great flying heli. But she only comes out occasionally. I have a spare airframe I bought off Ebay for spare parts. Look for a Later model Caliber 30 or Caliber 3 if you want to stick to Kyosho. Or a Raptor V2 would also be a great starter. Ian F.
Excatly what Ian said. Parts are scarce and the Nexus was a bit of a clunker anyhow

RE: MLD-28 gasoline engine
Vess are great props, I run them whenever I can. I flew one of these thats got some decent time on it and the motor is even stronger than the review plane and after a couple of gallons is running very well. Those freakin APC props are like mounting steak knives to the front of the plane, one whoops and you're in for some serious damage, a wood prop will smack the snot out of you but an APC will put a hurtin on you. Just my humble 2 cents.

Yep, I'll let you know. I have a Novus FP helicopter that was only flown a dozen or so times for a review. On behalf of myself and RCUnivese I'll give it to you guys for a prize with one stipulation. RE: Futaba GY520 Gyro help
Can you use one of those servos? Well, yes the gyro will support them, the 3151 would be 1520 digital, the 635 is standard. I'd advise against it on a 60 size heli, you really should get a decent tail servo such as the 9256, BLS 251, or a 9254

RE: Futaba 10CHP
Everyone thats flown one of my planes on my helicopter transmitter, especially the 3d types, love the smooth throttle and have converted their own radios. Also the switch layout is slightly different but they work just as well for plane flyers on the heli version. The airplane switch layout is a bit of a nusance for heli flyers. Also if you plan on, or think you might, fly a helicopter at anytime in the future you're better off with a heli version.

Did you wrap the clutch with tape and install it in the bell to ensure sufficent clearance? Also, are the clutch shoes parallel to the body or is it possibly sprung?

RE: going in circles
Thats pretty weird. THe one thing I have seen is if the red gear is assembled backwards the tail shaft will float a few mm and cause that as well. After that I'd have to think gyro or servo problem. Give some resistance to movement with your finger to the servo wheel and move the rudder stick, don't stall it but enough to make the servo do some work, sometimes they have trouble under load that wont show up under static conditions.

Got a link to the club or flyer? Some of us from Jacksonville will be down, probably going to bring our 106" electric Husky tow plane and some scale sail planes to do some flying and glider towing and maybe a heli or two.

RE: new Raptor 30 V2 engine problem
I'm not sure what the initial settings are for that motor. Here's the thing with pre-setting an engine. Different fuel, and different muffler, and different weather, mean different needle settings. Make sure the high speed is even open, I would think 3 full turns but make sure you read the manual for the engine and start there. Though those settings are probably on the rich side and you'll need to lean it out from there.

RE: should expo be used on 1st time trainer?
A control surface moves as far as its pushed (or pulled) by the rod. A servo output is round, when around center the rod moves more with a given stick/servo movement than when the servo wheel is at the extreme of throw. Hence the control surface will move more with a given stick input around center, than at the extremes of throw.

RE: Best Rudder Servo for Raptor 60
Thats exactly right. A 401 will hold ok on any size model. Where it runs into trouble is when you're trying to throw piros into manuevers that demand a consistent piro rate. Piros in fast forward flight, piro flips in the wind, piroing funnels and the like. When the 401 gets into a good breeze it struggles for a few moments up wind then whips around when the tail is going down wind. 611, 520s, Spartans, Intertia gyros are much more consistent. I have a 401 on a 50 that will do hurricanes and tail slides, but if you try going fast then doing a piro the weakness is obvious. All that is said for comparisons sake, the 401 is an excellent gyro.

RE: DX7 compatible receivers
The AR6000 is a park flyer recieverr I darn sure wouldn't be using it in a 40 size plane. The DX7 will work with any DSM or DSM 2 reciever. To check the firmware power up the transmitter and reciever normally, the reciever should get solid lights. Turn off the receiver power and turn it back on, one of three things will happen: 1. It will take 3 to 5 seconds to link up and the lights come on solid. 2. It will link instantly and the lights will come on solid 3. It will link instantly and the lights will flash. 1 is the oldest firmware and should be upgraded. 2. is the next newer firmware, it will recover from a low power situation instantly but not give you any indication after the flight. This is the minimum I'd fly with but could be upgraded if you dont need the receiver for a few weeks. 3. is the newest firmware and you dont have to worry about sending it back

RE: Novus CX will not bind
Binding is the process of the receiver memorizing the GUID (Globally Unique Identifier) code of the transmitter. You're not binding when you power up you're linking and all 2.4 systems do it, the reciever searches its band for the GUID of its transmitter and establishes an RF link. It's not like the old days where the reciever is listening on one channel and reacts to any signal on that frequency.
