RE: King Motors Baja Review with pictures
Thanks for the kind words guys. I'll make a vid of it next week so you can see how much difference it makes. It just started to snow here in VA so it may take some time. At least it'll give me some time to make a few air boxes and test them out. Hey BigGrump, you have a PM.

RE: King Motors Baja Review with pictures
ORIGINAL: KeithjV Ah ok gotcha. Thats too bad on the nitros. Im curious if a silencer could be made for those as well.
I'm sure one could be made. Its just a matter of finding out how much volume of air needs to be captured and cooled before it gets vented out without messing up the back pressure in the pipe. If theres enough demand, someone will do it.[;)] BF

RE: King Motors Baja Review with pictures
ORIGINAL: KeithjV BF what do you mean about the air filter being noisy? Nice work on the muffler. Ever make one for the nitro pipes?
What I mean is, there is a lot of noise coming out of the "intake" side of the motor. When the exhaust gets quiet, then you can HEAR the intake/air filter side of it. I had a good friend of mine from Austria come to the states a few years ago on buisness. He wanted to race his Serpents locally and he had a huge air box on all of his cars. I asked "What is that for?" and he demoed to me the difference between regular K&N style filter and the Serpent air box and I was amazed at how much difference it made. Thanks for the compliments on the silencer and no, I haven't messed around with nitro cars for at least 3 yrs. BF
ORIGINAL: BigGrump If that idea actually works, how great...... good job. Dennis
Is your post sarcastic? Or, were you actually questioning the ability to make a powerful exhaust quiet and still keep the power? BF

RE: King Motors Baja Review with pictures
Hello all. I have been following this thread for almost a year now, you guys sem to have a lot of fun with this buggy. I know I have, but one thing has always bothered me, the rear dominator style pipe is just too loud for me. For the past 6-7 years I have been flying 35 to 40% airplanes and flying quiet is a must at most flying fields. I have become used to "silenced" exhaust systems in my planes and have been looking at whats currently on the market for these buggies to make them quiet without losing power. There are some options out there but I wanted to design/build something of my own that would be sure to make it truely quiet. As far as power is concerned, there doesn't seem to be any loss and it is MUCH quieter now. I made 10 passes on asphalt (roughly 250') with the pipe only then did the exact same test with the silencer on and got as close to exact times as I could measure. The tuning was exactly the same and the engine temps remained the same as well. (on board data logger) The next thing to do is to make an intake box to quiet down the air filter. (believe it or not it makes a LOT of noise) Its going to be much harder to make and not reduce performance so, it may take a few prototypes to get it right. All in all it took me about two hours today to make the silencer not too bad at all. (the pics dont show it finished, with the mount bracket and stinger on the outlet side, I'll post a pic of it tomorrow when I get back to work) Hope you enjoy!

Large Scale Racing in Richmond VA
Hello all, I have been searching for a place to race my Baja 5B clone close to, or in Richmond VA and have not been able to find any tracks. If there is enough interest, I have the equipment and the space to build a fairly complex offroad track for the big buggies and trucks in the Hanover air park. I'm also interested in 1/5th scale onroad and know of a private paved go-cart track in Ashland that would be perfect for 1/5th scale onroad competition. Just testing the waters here..... any other large scale owners in the Richmond area interested in a track designed for the 1/5 scalers? BF

RE: Spectrum DX3S RPM setup on a 23cc?
A pic of your setup would be cool. My sensor mounting didn't work out so well, it takes only a few minutes for the sensor tape to get dust or dirt on it and the readings are useless. I need some motivation to get mine out and run it some more. Its a year old and has had maybe 2 tanks of fuel run thru it. BF

RE: Spectrum DX3S RPM setup on a 23cc?
O.K. the solution is to remove the engine and mount the sensor on the inside of the flywheel. I.E. the side that faces the engine, close to the shaft. there is enough room to put the sensor so that there is a solid line of sight on the crank and only the break of the tape. Jamie

RE: Spectrum DX3S RPM setup on a 23cc?
I am not sure how it works. I bought the DX3S with the data telemetry built in. Just as a test before I made a sensor mount, I placed the sensor close to the flywheel and rocked the flywheel back and forth. It read RPM. I know that the radio includes the little stickers, but it will read RPM from the magnets (there are two on the flywheel). Also with there being two magnets I think it will read twice the RPM that the engine is actually turning. Any Ideas? Jamie

RE: King Motors Baja Review with pictures
I replaced the stock servo (km servo) with a Hitec 5745mg and there is a huge difference in performance. The stock servo is just not in the same class as the Hitec I dont care what the specs say.

RE: Airwild Giles G-300 Maiden Flight
I dont think that it will balance with the rudder servo in the rear. I had everything I could get in front of the wing tube and the rudder servo on a pull-pull setup (hitec 5735) and it was just a bit wee bit tail heavy for IMAC but perfect for 3-D. To beef up the rear former I just used a piece of 1/8 lite ply cut to the shape of the fuse and glued it over the existing former to make it solid instead of just a ring. Does that make sense? Try twisting the rear of the fuse, if it gives any beef it up, if not then its probably O.K. And yes, it was flutter in the fuse and not the individual surfaces.

Hey Sinergy.......WTF? Do you think all flyers throw away their planes after just only one year????? Perhaps you would be willing to elaborate on YOUR experence on THIS aircraft? Any pointers????? If anyone wants to know how MINE trimmed out for IMAC flight, please let me know by PM or e-mail. So It wont bother Mr Sinergy or anyone else! RE: Reactor+Rimfire950+Evo 2500 = 3d ????
Just like flybrian I broke the wing off in flight today on my Reactor. This plane is junk and the recommended power set isn't up to the job of 3D flying. That whole experience just cost me about $190. Are there any good airframes in the low 20oz range with the rimfire 35-30-950 and 2100 lipo's? Or should I just can the motor as well and start from scratch? Jamie

RE: Warped sheeted wings
I'll take one of the new planes also. So, send two to the Woodbutcher, I'll pay for mine, just send me an invoice. After seeing and spending some time at the sticks with the little edge, I'm willing to spend the $ on whatever the new offering is, the edge is that good. Hopefully Woodbutcher will have his out at a few shows and fly-ins this year and I'm sure the following will grow. Hey Woodbutcher, you always said building two at the same time takes only a little extra effort. You up for it? Thanks Tom for building an awesome plane and, sorry for the other guy who had problems with the partially completed kit and didnt even get to fly it. Jamie

If you use the Biela when u go to idle the plane slows quickly. I always had some power on just before touchdown.

RE: 40% GILES WITH A 120 ?
Buy a Biela 32-10. Had one on mine and it slows down like crazy. It makes a funny whistling sound at idle and rips like crazy at full throttle. Post a picture, lets see what it looks like.

RE: POST YOUR FAVORITE GIANT SCALE PLANE PICS...
Hey Jon, If you want the 33% yak it's yours. I'll be starting my Carden Yak in a few weeks. Dont need two. Come on up to VA and we'll fly the snot out of it, then strip it so u can take it home with you. Are you sure you would'nt rather have a composite 38% giles G300? Its RTF so, you can test fly that one also! Jamie
