RCV Spares & Accessories
Where do we buy RCV spares and accessories from now? The appropriate section has disappeared from the RCV engines website and there is nothing on the Weston UK site.

RE: Clearcoating Epoxy Resin
Epoxy resin should not be left uncoated when it will be exposed to sunlight. It suffers actinic degradation i.e. it breaks down due to the action of the ultra violet component in natural light. When used in marine applications (I've done a lot with full size boats) it is over coated with polyurethane varnish which includes elements which suppress UV degradation (usually cobalt based). If you don't overcoat it, it will yellow and age quickly. Cured epoxy should also be wiped down with acetone or white spirit to remove the waxy deposit which is exuded onto the surface as it cures. This 'amine blush' as it is called, will prevent proper adhesion of the varnish unless it is removed. I've used 'West epoxy' extensively in the restoration of sailing boats, and also use it to fuelproof the firewall areas and engine bays of my models.

RE: Lanzo Old Timer ARF is it the end of the world?
Old timer ARF's are nothing new- the KK Junior 60 (1948) and the Black Magic (1946) have been available for at least the last three years from Flair Models in Britain. The price is around £115 which, considering the kit versions are around £65, is very reasonable. I recently gave in to temptation at my local model shop and bought an ARTF Junior 60. The build quality is superb and I should only take a few hours to install the engine and gear and get it flying. Why did I buy it? Because I don't want to wreck my beautiful old, newly restored Junior 60 whilst trying to regain my lost flying skills! My son is also becoming very interested in vintage models, so I'll use it to teach him to fly (I also bought him a Flair Junior 60 kit to build, so he'll know how to do it properly. If old timer ARTF's help to introduce newcomers to the pleasures of vintage flying, or help someone to return to the hobby, then they have their place.

RE: Let's See Your SlowPokes
Thanks Slick, I'm O.K. with the build, I just hope I can improve my flying skills or I'll need another kit from across the pond! I should be starting it in the next couple of weeks and I'll post some pictures when I've made some progress.

RE: Let's See Your SlowPokes
Thanks for your helpful comments John, I'll bear them in mind when I start the build. I realise that my RCV is a little smaller than yours, I'm hoping it will have enough power though. I really like these engines and was considering fitting my RCV60SP to the Slowpoke, but it would involve some modification to the front end, so I think I'll stick to the 58CD. What did you cover yours with, I'm intending to use Solartex for mine as I've used it on other models. I'll take my time through the winter and give it a nice colour scheme. I'm a more experienced 'builder' than 'flyer', I've never flown an aileron model before, only rudder and elevator 'vintage' models (Junior 60). With this in mind I've assembled an ARTF 'trainer' (Ripmax Trainer 30) in order to improve my flying skills before I let loose with the Slowpoke. As it may be tricky to find another one, I want it to stay in one piece.

RE: Let's See Your SlowPokes
I just bought a SlowPoke kit from the USA via ebay. The kit and the ARF were listed on several British model shop websites, but none actually had them in stock. Have Ripmax, the UK importer, dropped it? After I telephoned all the shops with it listed to try and get one, they all seem to have disappeared from the shop sites. I gave up and bought an untouched kit from South St. Paul, Minnesota. It only took a week to arrive and cost me half the listed U.K price, including the postage. Hoping to start the build soon, I have a RCV58CD to power it. It will be covered in Solartex There is a lot of good inspiration on this forum for a colour scheme.

RE: What Size Engine Would You Like To See In The "cd" Enine Range
Something a little smaller, say a .30, for all the popular vintage models like the Junior 60 or Black magic.
