RE: TF FW190 GIANT ARF
ORIGINAL: TA152 It's a Dave Platt kit .But the fuselage is molded here in Norway [;)]
The inboard gun blister on yours looks very scale. Not too many have the look of a separate piece. Could you give some details on it...was it part of the kit?

That is the gun hood of an A7 or A8... The bulges were added to accommodate the change to the larger MG131 machine guns. Really like that checkered cowl !

Great and thanks! I just sent him an email the other day... Will send him another now! And the wait is no issue as I am in the busy time of year for work...which has slowed the build down considerably :-/ Thanks again.

RE: Sist FW190A8 1:4
Glad to read you are pleased with your Seidel prop. Since I have changed engines from the EVO99 to the Moki 150 I have been interested in looking into the Seidel prop. I have sent several emails, via their web site, looking for a quote/delivery for a 1/4.5 scale 190A prop, but so far no response...? Any suggestions?

RE: Sist FW190A8 1:4
Here is the color charts in the Camouflage and Markings book I mentioned earlier. Now that I look at it...the blue 24 is actually much more "blue" in this picture than on this page in person...funny.

Subscribed... I am building the 1/4.5 Vailly FW 190 on the other site. Are those landing gear from "AS-Scale"...over in Germany? Like the Red 1 scheme as well... I have a copy of "Luftwaffe Camoufage And Markings" and RLM 24 is as bright a blue as they have in the color charts included...

RE: UMS Evolution Radial Care and Operation
Interesting... I received my 9-99 a few days ago, but haven't tried to mount it yet. The metal ring clamps they provide are bare metal inside and out... What heat resistent silicone are you speaking about? There were no instructions...just the 3 zip lock bags with the ring sections...so thanks for the heads-up on installation "procedures"!

RE: UMS Evolution Radial Care and Operation
Steve, If you do go w/ Solo Prop it might be a good idea to order an extra blade or two at the time of purchase. They are custom made and if, down the road, you do break one you will have an extra made from the same batch...ready to go.

RE: UMS Evolution Radial Care and Operation
I was given such a great deal on the 26" x 12 3 blade that if it doesn't work...no biggie. But I have had numerous people tell me that the 99cc will spin the 26" CF prop with no problem. However, the proof will be when I start to run the combo. Will report back! And Radial1951, it is a FW190 w/ a 90.5" wing span, I am building!

RE: UMS Evolution Radial Care and Operation
Funny...I had parked a cashier's check with Horizon several months prior to the 9-99's arriving. One of the sales reps I was dealing with, great guy BTW, told me that my 9-99 was the very first one out the door when they started shipping. Might have been pulling my leg, but I believed him! Speaking of EVO 9-99... Mounted onto the break-in stand w/ my now balanced carbon fiber 26" Mejzlik prop. I took a boat-load of pictures and then realized that I was taking 3 or 4 from the exact same angle! DANG, this set-up looks good! This is some serious motivation to kick into overdrive the building of the Vailly FW 190 it's going on!

RE: Balancing a 26
Thanks SpeedRacer, Can't say I would be too confident to paint this prop well enough not to really screw up the balance! It's pretty close now, just looking to dial-it-in. I have had several PM's regarding just using clear coat on the backside of the prop that is the light one. Might give this a try... Thanks again!

Balancing a 26" 3 Blade CF Mejzlik Prop
I was offered a great deal on a new/unused 26"x12 3 blade Mejzlik carbon fiber prop, so I bought it. It will be going on my EVO 9-99 that will be sitting in the Vailly FW 190 I am building. My question is if anyone has a tried and true method for balancing a CF 3 blade prop? There is a ton of info on 2 blade wooden props, but nothing I can seem to find on this one.

RE: UMS Evolution Radial Care and Operation
Well, Horizon has no information on the ETA of their exhaust rings…so I took the advice of an anonymous source, and spent an extra $60 and purchased the Keleo 9-99 exhaust ring. It was in stock and should be here in a few days. Probably will be worth the extra $$ in the long run… <span style="line-height: 115%; font-family: "Calibri","sans-serif"; font-size: 11pt; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family: Calibri; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA">Thanks anonymous!

RE: Vailly 113
Dave, Sorry to read that post. But I dig your glass is half full attitude! I am building the Vailly, 90.5 version and I'm at the landing gear installation point. I have added (recessed) a slab of CF along the front of the 4 ribs, where the LG mounts, to add some more strength there. Looking back, would you consider anything additional...other than what is already called for in the plans? Thanks

RE: UMS Evolution Radial Care and Operation
The feedback I recieved from Solo Prop was that my Evo 9 99 could handle a 25" 3 blade with not a lot of problem. That's what will be going on the front end of my Butcher Bird. A 26" prop is true scale for the 1/4.5 scale FW 190, so the 25" should be just fine as a flying/static scale prop.

RE: UMS Evolution Radial Care and Operation
Joel, looks like we were running the same errands today! I stopped by Hyperfuels and picked up a gallon of 99.95% methanol. Also placed an order for the after-run Blue Block…thanks Tom and Pete for that one! And used some scrap lumber to build, what I think, is a bullet proof engine stand. For size reference, that’s a 12 inch ruler attached to the square. Still have to finish the platform for the fuel tank, mounting config and misc other items...

RE: UMS Evolution Radial Care and Operation
I had a feeling I subscribed to the right thread! Thanks, Tom and did go back a look through the earlier posts... I see you use both air tool oil and blue block and you also run fuel w/ only 8% oil and the mix recommended just a few posts back has about 17-18% oil. So you are saying that the increase in oil content does not decrease the need to use after run oils. Got it! I'll follow your advice and get some air tool oil and blue block to have on hand... Thanks again!

RE: UMS Evolution Radial Care and Operation
Thanks guys... Picked up a gallon of the Cool Power w/ 10% nitro and 17% syn oil... Didn't have time to get the methanol today, but "hiperfuels" here in the Houston area sells it in manageable quantities. The fuel color is much more green than in the picture and it recommends NOT to add any after-run oil as it contains it...that's a time saver. I will try to get a video of the break-in of the radial and post it. I still need to order my 25" Solo Prop for the FW 190 A version. Going to get an off the shelf prop to use during initial break-in until the big boy arrives. Thanks again

Is that combination (Cool Power 10% nitro /18%PAG oil then mixed 50/50 with Methanol) good for the break-in of my EVO 99cc 9 cylinder? Thanks

RE: UMS Evolution Radial Care and Operation
I recieved my EVO 9 cylinder about 3 weeks ago and have pulled it out of the box every few days...just look at it! Great looking engine, but more importantly it will make the 1/4.5 scale FW 190, I am building, sing :-) Should have things ready for some breaking-in on an engine stand before too long. Really looking forward to that. Is there a conventional wisdom with regards to the use of an exhaust ring on a glow radial vs. running exhaust pipes individually from each cylinder to its respective scale exit? Regards, Mitch
