Maybe it's time for a scale gliders forum?

RE: JR 9303 w Synthesized Module
I've had a different experience. I bought one and range tested it side by side with the crystal module. I got about half the range with the syth module. I exchanged it for another one and tested again. This time I got about 85% of the range with synth module. I may try a swap again, but if the range isn't as good as the standard moduled, I won't use it. -Ben

RE: 2006 Sequences?
I learned this from cycling. I think it applies here as well. The four "T's" are talent, training, technique and tools. Talent - What God gave you. Training - How much you work to exploit your talent. Technique - The little tricks we learn that make it easier. Tools - Stuff that costs money. Sure, a 40% plane helps, but not as much as raw talent, practice and a good coach. -Ben

Correct. The 2005 Sportsman sequence has one horizontal snap. The 2006 Sportsman sequence will have snaps on a 45. -Ben

RE: New ZDZ-80
Careful with the Mej 27x10. It's a fat prop with the blade cord at the root bigger than the Mej 28x10. It'll put a huge load on the motor. As how I know? Anyone want to buy a Mej 27x10? -Ben

Has anyone used the synth TX module with JR PCM non-synth receivers? I've tried every combination of receiver and crystal that I own and I have reduced range of about 50% using the synth transmitter module. -Ben

Which Cans for 150cc Motor?
I'm going to be setting up a 40% Carden Extra 330s this winter and I've started shopping for the engine and exhaust. I want front exit cans, so I think my choices are Pefa, MTW and K&S. I think all will be quiet enough for my needs. Considering top RPM and mid-range transition, which is best?

RE: Has anyone used 100LL avgas in their airplane engines?
Guys- If the gas you're getting from the pump is BLUE, it's avgas 100LL. Feds mandate that 100LL be dyed blue and that it is the only gas sold with that color. This helps prevent fueling errors in airplanes. -Ben

RE: Electric Gasoline Fueling Systems
Yep, momentary to force me to monitor the fueling. I just spent the last half hour looking for my notes on the switch and I can't find the details anywhere. It took me a day to find the ****** thing too. It's a sealed momentary safety switch. It's wired so that UP fuels the plane DOWN defuels it. I have not had a lick of trouble with the screws going through the side of the gas can. I used steel hardware with a nut on the inside (that was tough to do) and rubber washers between the can and the box. Works great. The only thing I need to fix, is that it leans when the gas level gets low in the can. I'm running 9 big D-cell 3600 NiMHs and they're a bit heavy. Here's what I'm thinking of using to prop the heavy end up.

RE: Electric Gasoline Fueling Systems
Here's a look at how I did it. In the other thread where Geistware first showed us his, I was not convinced on this motor. I came around once I realized what it's strengths and weaknesses are. The motor must be sealed. I cut a piece of G10 for the back and epoxied it in place. I also laid a bead of epoxy on the bottom where the heat sink joins the motor case. Sealing the motor is required so that sparks produced by the brushes can't ignite gas fumes. Two other points on mine. I don't like the idea of charging the battery when sitting on a can of gas. I'm using NiMHs, but I remove it, thus no charge jack. The other thing is I believe in attended fueling. As such, I use a safety momentary switch to fill the tank. You must pull it out and then hold it up to fill and down to defuel.

RE: zdz 80 fuel draw problem at startup only
I had this once with one of my ZDZ-80's. It turned out that some of the fuel line had hardened and was not completely sealing over the fittings. I replaced a few pieces and added fuel line clamps on all the fittings. This solved it for me. -Ben

RE: Slowing down a Comp-Arf 2.6 Extra 330
ORIGINAL: PJFaller ... Why do you think we dont do it on commercial jets ...
I dunno about that. My father used to comment on how the 757 did real nice in a slip. I know you know this Pete, but for the benefit of others, a slip to landing is not supposed to be used to slow down, it's intended to lose altitude without increasing speed. -Ben

RE: Do u unload the gas from the gastank?
Actually, if you leave the tank full and plug the vent line it's safer than emptying it. It's the gas vapor (the air) in the tank which causes the exposive hazard. Having said that, I empty the tank. I dunno why, but I do. -Ben

RE: Lock
If the condition of the 7x12 is as good or better as yours, then I'd take the trade. Dual axle for our purposes is not desired and makes for a lot more road resistance when towing. How about hooking up his trailer and taking it for a ride to see how it does with your truck? -Ben

RE: BASIC sequence question
Roll in to the turn without changing direction. Once bank angle is established, trade rudder for elevator and turn 180 degrees. Make sure you rollout exactly opposite the place you began the turn, not the bank. Roll rate out is same as roll rate in. Keep the turn rate consistant and no changes in altitude. -Ben
