RE: skinned hinge materal
thanks for all your input ive used the .10 glass board on the bias for ail on a foam core wing, but having to sand down the surface to get the board flush, and then filling every thing around it is pretty time consuming, just trying to look for somthing quick and clean

skinned hinge materal
I see a few different ways of making a skinned hinge, and a few different materals being used, has any of you tried laying 2 layers of 1.4oz glass cloth on the bias over the hinge area on top of the .75 cloth, and then bag it, ?

FIRST TIME RACING
went to my first contest over the weekend at the LA BASIN, what a blast flew 424 on short course saturday, finished 8 out of 15, having never flown my 426 planes on a short course i chose not to fly 426 on saturday, still like my planes to much, would like to have flown 426 on long course on sunday, but the forcast was 20+ mph wind, im glad i chose not to, i belive the wind was over 20 mph, they called off the contest. this is very addective

Rebuilt quickie
here are some pics of a vortex that randy bridges gave me through a friend, B coffey, the tail was broke off, the leading edge of the wing had a segment missing aprox 4x6 inches top and bottom, a hole on top of the wing about the size of a golf ball. and a new paint job, servos are jr 3421 and 3121"s the other quickie fuse is a copy of a vortex i cut out and built, it"s finished, it has 9650"s for servos, the wing is at coffeys house, my wife closed the slidding glass door on it by accident??????? the ony thing left to do is a little clear, its one chuck built for me. the other three fuses are in building stages, the v tail"s for these are finished, the wood wing is somthing i had to see if i could build it as nice as a composit. time will tell? we took the one out yesterday,RB old plane , coffey flew first, two clicks of right ail, then me, OMG faster than any thing ive flown,i was able to land it ok. the next flight i had to hand the radio over to coffey after a few laps. oh well ill keep practicing i just wanted you guys to see these before i pile them up, thanks again randy for the head start, and coffey i could"nt have built them with out you, thanks . get to work on your q40

RE: wing stuck
Well,#2 in,progress. This time i put down two coats of tree wax and then used packaging tape over that, along with a couple more coats of tree wax before potting. and of course crisco on the threads. Randy, im sorry i forgot to mention what color that wing was i screwed up on. PINK. so you know who's it was

RE: wing stuck
Well, speedracerntrixie you win the cigar! The Crisco may have nulled the wax, but I think the wax was the wrong type to begin with. The wing is now cracked in a few places and the fuse is a total loss. Coffey thinks the wing can be saved, so Randy, tell your pop Coffey has a project for him. Coffey's answer to all this is here's another wing and partly built fuse, try again. And also gave me some wax and pva. The race sceen is pretty new to me, I've had a couple predators, don't really like ARF's that much, not much there to be proud of. I'll start building some of my own to tear up, maybe by then I'll have it down. I want to thank you guys, and of course you Coffey, for the fast response. Thanks, Ben

wing stuck
A good friend of mine asked if i would build one of his q500 for him, vortex composit wing and tail, anyway heres the problem, i cant get the wing out after potting, per what ive read here, this should have worked, wing side, two coats of carnuba wax buffud, a generous amount of crisco, fuse side, 30 min epoxy a generous amount of micro baloons and a little milled glass, applied this mixture to fuse, placed wing on fuse, put crisco on threads of screws and tighted up wing, next day took screws out, no problem there, tried to pop wing out, no good. any ideas how to get this apart, with out terring every thing up. thanks

RE: AeroWorks Edge 540T 46-60?
you need to fly it and then make adj, check out trimming rc planes and do a lot of reading and flying,it takes me about 20 to 30 flights to get a plane flying the way i like it, you wont belive how much better you can get one to behave when you spend some time with an incedents meter, linkage geometry and trimming correctley

RE: Voodoo Plane
this brings back a lot of old memories, first kit i built was a pair of lil satins ,then voodoos, sneakers ,nemasis, the engines were fox combat specials and super tiger G21,35, babby pasifiers for fuel tanks, thes planes would run around 100 mph to 110 mph, then foam wings cam into the picture, engines fox mark 6 combat special with a lot of modifactions could reach speeds of low 130s mph, surgical tubing worked for fuel tanks, and pressure regulators helped to needle the high pressure of the surgical tubing for a fuel tank, the planes were 450sq in wings to 500 sq in wings, if you were a good builder you could keep the weight around 18 to 19 oz with engine, we use to carv or on props, then apc came into the picture. and arrow shafts for booms, the last planes i built were a cross between rich brashes rotation station and allen devues arrow plane, guys like rich brasher and norm mcfadden were ahead of there time, norm was a great engine guy and flew a plane called a cream sicle. i got to fly against the best, like mike wilcox and his dad, the stubblefields howard rush, rich lopez, mike petri, I learned a lot from a couple guys i flew with, bruce coffee and jim womack , the last year i flew control combat i built 106 planes between fast combat and 1/2 combat THANKS FOR THE WALK DOWN MEMORY LANE.

RE: AeroWorks Edge 540T 46-60?
In an earlier post I commented on sending pics, these are them, running a ys for power .91ac the engine box needed to be shortened 20 mm, this was done for three reasons, the ys engine is a little bit longer and quite a bit heavier than a saito, I'm a ys fan for many reasons, more power than any other four stroke and a constant fuel flow to engine. shorting the firewall keept the cowl fitting nice and keeping a margin of 3/32 between the cowl and the spinner, the engine being inverted kept from hacking the cowl to pieces, using some thinwall stainless pipe to make a header pipe with out creating any back preassure and running it back far enough and dumping it down behind the cowl, kept the 3/8 tubing as short as i could still keeping it lighter than stock muffler. the battery needed to be moved back just behind the wing. The first few flights the cg was at 3 3/16, required quite a bit of elev trim, inverted flight was quite a bit worse, will move the cg to 3 1/2 and try to get it right. The cg was checked on a venessa. The plane weighs 7lb 7oz the engine incendents was 1.0 degree down thrust now at .02 deg down thrust.

RE: AeroWorks Edge 540T 46-60?
I found that the length of a larger 4-stroke (YS .91 AC - about 121m overall length) requires moving the firewall back about 20mm for the cowl to fit properly - this will help with the C.G. issues. Will post pics later...
