RE: GWS Receivers
I've got several of the GWS 8 Channel Dual Conversion receivers and have used them in several contests and funflys and have never had a problem. IMHO they are the best receiver out there for the price. I did have one busted in a crash. It was way past warranty stage but I sent it in to Horizon and they sent me a new one at no charge. Can't get much better than that. BTW they are just a hair bigger than a Hitec 555 and I would guess about the same weight.

Toki .18 Parts
I'm trying to find a source for parts for a Toki .18 Ducted Fan. I need the fan rotor itself. I had too big of a wrench when I was installing it and broke one of the fins off. I tried rtmodels but I see they no longer carry them. If anyone knows where I can get one it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for your time!

It's all I fly...
Here's a picture of the latest SPAD I made. I don't think it's too bad considering all I had to build from was a couple of 3 views and a few pictures from the internet. [image]http://benjamminsvideos.rchomepage.com/images/edge/frontleft.jpg[/image]

RE: PBF rolls left
I'm not Dave but I'll put my $.02 in. I think it's the nature of the beast. It's gotta be the torque. A little right thrust might help but I've never tried it. This type of plane has to be flown all of the time, no hands off flight here. I guess I would suggest trimming it for the throttle setting you use most.

RE: SPAD seaplane
Roy, Check out my website. I made a Seamaster copy to fly off snow. I built it for a .25 engine but have used a TT GP .42 and an Irvine .36 Heli on it. This spring I seeled it up and flew it off water, it seemed to work fine. There are plans on my website but I have changed mine since I drew them up. I moved the engine mount to the fuse, it works in the wing but it's pretty flexible. I would like to change the tail feathers too. I haven't done it but I think it would be stronger with a conventional tail instead of the "T" tail. The "T" tail looks so cool I hate to give up on it. I might try adding wire braces to help stiffen it up. It's quite a bit smaller than what your looking for but it's a place to start.

RE: Do "things fly better with coke" ???
Thanks! The round ones aren't a whole lot different than the square pizza boxes. They do seem to fly faster than the square ones. I don't think there is as much flex so they don't tuck in and out like the pizza boxes.

Flying Snoopy Doghouse...will it work?
I would suggest trimming your elevons back to 4". Where does it balance? Did you get it up to 25% of the chord? Another thing you might want to try is putting another vertical inside in the center. I tried flying the radio flyer without Calvin riding on it. I thought the wheels would work as the verticals. Didn't work! If I remember right Tattoo and Kraut had the same results when they tried to build pizza boxes using fences on the side instead of the vertical in the center. I think you need that vertical in the propwash.

Flying Snoopy Doghouse...will it work?
Boy that sounds familiar. You just explained the first 2 or 3 flights with the RadioFlyer. If you go with the .60 I would suggest a lower pitch prop than an 11x8. I would say 12x4 or 12x6. You want big diameter low pitch, speed will cause lots of problems. Trust me! :D One question. Have you flown a standard Pizza Box? I'm assuming you have but if not, build one of those with a good .25 or Thunder Tiger GP .42. Once you master that the Doghouse will be alot more managable.

Great work Deadeye! Now find yourself some 2 mil and get it even closer to the same weight as your balsa 4*. Your turtle deck is pretty much the same meathod I use on my 1/12 scale radial engine fighters. I just slit every other flute but don't remove the extra piece. For added strength I heat a piece of 2 mil and curve it then glue that inside, makes it rock solid. If you ever get down this way, let me know. Maybe we can get together and do a little flying.

Well, there is wood in the spar, a pop bottle cowl, aluminum landing gear, and a cutting board firewall and engine mount.
Originally posted by Jim_McIntyre The day I figure out how to build a decent looking scale SPAD is the day I stop contributing to these comparison threads. Yes, I've seen the coro-stang, great strides being made but, put it next to a balsa model (even one built by a mediocre builder) in a beauty contest and what's gonna happen? Lets' be real. If you don't care about looks, so be it, fly a beater and enjoy. :D
I'm not saying it's Top Gun material, far from it, but I'm pretty happy with it. It's not exactly a "Simple" Plastic Airpane, but it is plastic. I guess what I'm saying is looks all depend on how much time you want to put into them. Just think of what balsa planes looked like in the first 5 years of thier existance. Spad has just started, look how much it has evolved in it's first 5 years.

Coroplast wing for Aerobird?
David, yes it is possible. I've done it for fighterbirds. There are some pictures here: http://www.midrivers.com/~ben/fighterbird.html I used 4 mil. I slit every 3rd or 4th flute. I used the original wing as a jig and put packing tape in 5 places to hold the proper curve. For the polyhedral I heated the coro and bent it across the flutes. The coro is more flexible than the foam wing so you get a little more dihedral in the air. :D Just be careful you don't get a twist in it. :stupid: My orange one is twisted, but I made another one for my brother and it flys fine. They are within .2 oz of the fighterbird wing. They don't seem to glide as well but they do fly.

Fighterbird battery ends
Thankyou for the replys. A buddy of mine overcharged one of his battery packs. I swapped him one of mine and used the end off of his pack to make my own. I used seven 700 mah AAA size nimhs. It ended up 1 1/2 oz lighter than the standard 6 cell pack. Which made the plane tail heavy. If I add enough weight to make it balance, the only thing I'm gaining is 1.2 volts and loosing 200 mah. If I make anymore, I will go with the 1100 mah 2/3A cells. No sense using the lower capacity cells if I still need to add the weight.
