RE: YS 170 DZ CDI
Guys, Many thanks for your replies. I'm of the mind that 20% oil is within spec so it should be able to be made to run OK on it. Yes it is a true CDi and not a conversion. I have gallons of 20/20 fuel that need using up, and I like smoke trails!! I'm dubious of the 2 Diaphragms and being 1 turn out from flush on the Reg and still being rich! Perhaps I'll try just one as has been suggested Regards, Steve

RE: YS 170 DZ CDI
Sorry to ressurect an old thread, but I'm having issues with my 170Cdi not starting and flooding VERY easily. I'm wondering whether it's the plug, but also I've discovered I have 2 diaphragms fitted to the pump and i'm not sure this should be the case! (the black one and the orange one). I'm guessing I have a newer pump as the poppet valves meet with the brass inserts in the pump body. On the very rare occasions I can get it to run it runs great, albeit a little rich at bottom end as it slowly loads up at idle. Once flooded though that's it for the day. it will just fire in a nasty way every 10 turns of the prop. Ocasionally it shoots a flame out the exhaust with a loud pop! Reg is 1 turn out from flush and needle is 3/4 turn out. Fuel is 20 oil 20 nitro. Next step is to buy a new plug. Regards, Steve

DZ Pump Valve Installation
Hi, Just been cleaning the pump on my DZ140, and noticed the pump valves are installed the wrong way round according to the DZ140 exploded view (yet they are correct as per the YS160 pump exploded view) Wondering if this is something I need to worry about? should I set them as per YS140 view? It seems the valves fit either way round.. Regards, Steve

RE: YS140 Routine Service
Dave, I'll order from Service.. It seems that all the bearing suppliers I try in the UK say if it's not 15*35*11, then it's not a 6202... their 8mm wide one has an OD of 32 mm Thanks for your help anyway, regards, Steve

RE: YS140 Routine Service
ORIGINAL: Dave Shadel The bearing is a 6202, which is a 15x35x8mm.
Dave, Looking to order, they tell me a 6202 is 15*35*11mm, not 8mm. Do I need a 6002 instead? Regards, Steve

YS140 Routine Service
Dave, I plan to replace the Conrod and rear bearing after each season's flying on my 140DZ, and 140FZ-S Do you know the bearing ref no that YS use in this engine .. I know it's an NSK bearing, but I can't recall the numbers on it... I have ordered the conrod from service, but we have a large bearing importer locally, and I would be able to get the rear bearing from them.. This will allow me to order the bearings ahead of dismantling the engine.. Regards, Steve

RE: Capiche 140
Well with the Capiche safely packed away in the Wardrobe for winter (how could I let her overwinter outside) the hack model comes out, and my starter starts to struggle turning over a 140DZ... I Use a Kavan Geared starter on 12 cells.. Plenty of gusto for the first start, then won't turn the engine over for next flight (nicads getting cold maybe) What's the best starter out there for these big engines? Ideally i'd like a portable all in one jobbie. sorry if it's a little off topic, but a lot of big 4 stroke users read this thread! Regards, Steve

RE: 73" Edge 540T 1.20 Build
vent tube exits tank.... loops over itself once in the space above the UC mount.. joins up to brass tube through bottom of front firewall (drill hole for this at the bottom centre of the firewall), brass tube is then cranked so it's open end is forward facing and outside the cowl, in airflow (You did cut a big D out of the bottom of the cowl, didn't you). This gives a slight positive pressure.. works for me with the DZ 140 in the Edge...no leaks.. A tip from an F3A flier over here showed me ... Regards, Steve

140DZ Ben, I originally bought it for my Capiche 140, but it would be major surgery to retrofit, so I bought a WH Edge for the Engine! Everything Fits!! Regards, Steve

RE: 1.20 Edge Review, the beginnings
Fitting the Cowl round the Engine is the hardest part of the build...even that's a Piece of cake! Nice Quality Tom.... Only Gripe is I borrowed some Robart 309s from clubmates... what probuild replaced them with were poor quality imitations... I cant give those back to my mates!! Just got to seal hingelines, fit aileron Servos and we're away!! Regards, Steve

RE: What Hinge Points for Baby Edge??
Thanks Tom! Please ammend the instructions that read 'Mount the engine on the supplied mount' if there is no mount included. There is also no mount listed in the add-on hardware kit. yes I also have only 2 4mm screws, no tailwheel spring Thanks for your help.. I can wait 10 days.. I've emailed my details.... Tom, be clear these are only minor niggles on an otherwise superbly presented kit. Regards, Steve

I have other stuff missing from my kit Engine mount, UC plate screws, cowl screws, tailplane screws, tailwheel springs, 6-32 control horn studding or bolts My hardware pack only has 2 M4 screws, 6 self tappers and a few washers/nuts. This cant be right? Keen to get started, I cannot find US threaded stuff like 6-32 over here. I'm keen to get started, but cannot affix the cowl as yet. Regards, Steve

Keith, I've heard the same, though apparently due to an additive, which causes powdery, abrasive deposites that cause premature bearing and conrod failure Regards, Steve

RE: 73" Edge 540T 1.20 Build
Hi, I'm about to embark on a WH edge, after selling off some of my electric models on Ebay.. We have a dealer in the UK, and from what I've seen of the Kit, looks pretty good. I have a DZ140 which was going to go in my Capiche, but it didn't need any more power than the FZ140 that lives in it. I need a nice 3d model that I'm not emotionally attached to by having to build it! Spar, are you the Same Spar from the Nigel Hawes Tucano Threads on RcGroups?? Regards, Steve

RE: Capiche 140
Luke, Things are much more achievable with your rates... thanks for that! This model comes alive for 3D!! I bought a 140DZ to go in the Capiche, but this 140 FZ with the pipe is stonking, getting better with each tank, unlimited vertical snaps no problem so I'll save the DZ for a future project. (I guess I saved a bit when I went to the straight UC too) If anyone wants an immaculate (carbon) Swept UC for a Capiche 140, please let me know via PM. Regards,

RE: Capiche 140
Thanks Luke, Looks like I'm well OTT on travel at the moment... I got 8411 on Ailerons, they hold their own too!!! I'm sure cutting these down will tame her.. just a breath of down when inverted...I'll up the expo too.. Thanks! Getting more confident now.. this model is lovely [:D][:D][:D][:D] Regards, Steve

RE: Capiche 140
Thanks Luke, Is that the Same for Ailerons??? by twitchy I mean sensitive about neutral, so I guess I need more Expo... no wing rocking though! I'll try cutting everything down to 45 degrees rates with a tad more down aileron. Cheers, Steve

RE: Capiche 140
.....Starting to have some fun now I can trust the 140FZ!! I flicked to 3D rates when slowed down to enter a Harrier and I think I've overdone it.. very twitchy on elevator, even with -60% (Futaba) expo. I might take deflection down a bit from 90 degrees! I'm finding already that the stock Hi F3A rates as per the instructions is a bit conservative! Anybody have any initial 3d Settings for this model? as the instructions were a tad vague [;)] Measurements in degrees please[:D][:D] Regards, Steve

Paranoid me has now fitted straight UC on my Capiche. doesnt look as good but is a bit more practical. Finally sorted the 140FZ... seems that drilling the airbleed hole to 1/8" stops the engine loading up at Idle! yep, YS told me to do it! nice day for flying... so out she comes! Regards, Steve
