RE: CRRC 40cc kit
SRimer, It must be something in the air up here around Chicago! [:)] Would how the engine is mounted have any effect on the running? I know if I have an engine set too rich in an inverted mounting, it will sometimes bog out when it's in a KE with the muffler port pointed up (and run fine in the other KE position). My 40 is mounted sideways in a giant profile with the muffler port pointed down. Just trying to get this thing running right.

RE: CRRC 40cc kit
ORIGINAL: jedijody Either remove the velocity stack completely or cut it at an angle with the longer side towards the prop. Drill a small hole in the side of the velocity stack and run your metering diaphragm vent line into that hole, make the hole just big enough to be able to force the tubing through it so it will stay.
Neat! I'll rig that up tonight. Thanks, Jody.

RE: CRRC 40cc kit
ORIGINAL: citabrickr Yea, lean it out till it's correct in flight...that was easy.
Well, if was that easy, I wouldn't have posted.[8|] If I lean it any more on the ground, it won't transition without stumbling. I guess the engine needs to be overly lean on the ground to be correct in the air? Kind of goes against all my years of understanding that an engine leans out in flight. Not saying that isn't the case here, just a dodgy leap of faith to put my plane in the middle of. But I guess it's either try it or welcome a new paper weight to my bench.

RE: Aerovate Engines
Rocketman, after you get the servo screw tightened in with the locknut, put a dollop of silicone sealant over the screw and smooth it flush with the top of the servo arm. Once it sets up, it keeps the screw nice and secure and is easy enough to get through if you need to get the screw out. Works really well if you use the dubro HD style arms.

RE: CRRC 40cc kit
ORIGINAL: Blade 65     I have a CRRC 40 cc pro engine installed on my Katana V2 using a Xoar 18x10 prop. The velocity stack sticks out of the cowl.  I also have the same issue during flight.  My engine oftens times sputters, richens and leans out during flight despite adjusting the low and high end needles to optimal performance.  On the ground, the engines runs flawlessly.  I tried changing the stock velocity stack to a GP velocity stack which is angled. The fix only offered modest improvement on my engine's performance in the air.  I soldered a brass tubing on the vent of the diaphragm cover and connected silicone tubing on the brass tubing directing the tubing into the fuselage.  I hope this will solve this issue.  I will be flying this weekend to see if this modification corrects my problem.  Some say that you might have to install a plate in front of the carb. to avoid direct prop. blast from the propeller.  I might consider this my next step if the problem persists.  Geoff
I having this same problem. I've soldered on some tubing and have a line run away from the prop wash and have tuned it to perfection on the ground. But once in the air, it runs like it's insanely rich. Any suggestions?

RE: Aerovate Engines
I like big lazy cuban 8s during a gasser break in. It loads and unloads the engine nicely and doesn't take too much throttle to do. Add some 1/2 rolls here and there and you'll get some great inverted work in too.

RE: Aerovate Engines
Can't wait to get my 56. Henry said it has the same mounting footprint as the Area 51 which means I don't have to plug and drill my firewall to swap engines. Looking at the drawings, it seems to be the same dimensions in the crankcase area, so I might not even need to change the standoffs. If it runs as well as my two Area 51s, I'll be very pleased.
ORIGINAL: apalsson Interestingly enough and despite the name, Area 51, they are 53cc
True, 53.24cc. But Area 53 just doesn't have the same ring to it.[:D] I have two of them and they are great engines. I got one from Extreme Flight and the other from Milton at RCExtremePower. Milton has done great with service for me also.

RE: Area 51 engines
Well, I'll post my experience for what it's worth: My Area51 had two broken mounting ears so I pulled it off the plane and emailed Milton on 9/1. He replied with the repair address on 9/2 and I got the engine out to him USPS Priority Mail on 9/3. It arrived at his place 9/5 (says the USPS). I walked in the door from flying this morning (I work nights) and there was a box waiting for me with a repaired Area51 in it. Milton even tweaked the timing when he test ran it to tune it up a bit. So from busted motor to repaired one in my hands in 9 days including the shipping both ways. My thanks to Milton. I love both my Area 51's.

RE: Brillelli 46cc
ORIGINAL: TOFAST4U2C I know this is a dead thread and Brillelli is gone from what I know but... My Brillelli 46cc with 1 gallon on the bench and 6 or 7 flights has a stuck piston ring I think. Flew will first flight of the day, landed and after a refuel and recharge just would pop and that was it. Plenty of spark but no real compression unless I put some oil in the spark plug hole and then it pops but wont run. I am looking for some advise on who might be a good place to send it besides my local mower shop who I assume will just not get the concept. RE: CRRC 40cc kit
I don't have a problem getting warranty stuff done since I bought it from AbellRC but I don't want to get another module if it's just gonna be a turd or make me nervous about when it's going to be a turd. I'm going hunting in my shop for the RCEXL unit and then put it on. Maybe I'll get the timing dialed in then too.

RE: CRRC 40cc kit
I'm on my second CRRC ignition module and this one's giving me trouble. After a couple of flips, it will quit sparking and I'll have to cycle the power to the ignition to get it going again. Then a couple of flips later, same thing. When it has started, it either runs backwards and quits or forwards and quits. There's an audilbe "click" from the module when I cycle the ignition off. Any thoughts? Clay at Abellrc has been great about warranty stuff but I think I may just go with an RCEXL module if this one is going to be a PITA. I think I have one around here somewhere with a sensor from another project but wanted to see if anyone had dealt with the cycling problem before. I hate not being able to fly the plane the 40 is on. RE: Area 51 engines
ORIGINAL: RC Extreme power Higher octane only makes the engine run hotter with no improved performance. Milton
You're right on that one. We get summer/winter blends around the Chicago area and sometimes you can tell the difference in your car until the fuel computer retunes. My first one is really starting to come on. I need to tach it next time I'm out. It swings the 23A like a champ and really hauls my EF Extra. My younger one is wicked on my peak model 55sp (16.5#). Unlimited performance at that weight.

I ran a 22x8 for the first gallon or so then went to a 23x8. I run 91 octane but only to avoid some of the weird blends we get here in Chicago for the 87-89 octane fuels. 40:1 Avenger synthetic oil. Loads of power, smooth as silk. Love my A51!!

RE: Yak-54 80" wingspan
Yep, Mike's on the money. That way you have equal length levers on both ends of the pushrod. You can always change the leverage and throw by moving the clevis closer or farther from the hinge line but equidistant is best. You can change throws better with endpoint adjustments on most TXs these days. I like the horns that are one bolt through the surface: [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXGWD9&P=0]Dubro HD horns[/link] [link=http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=8246&Product_Name=Extra_Strong_Control_Horns_w/_Bearing_34mm_(5pcs)]Hobby City horns (about 1.25" )[/link]

RE: 80" Fusion gas
That looks fantastic!! Talk about obscene powah!!!! [:D] Any reason you didn't put the tank back at the CG? I put mine there on my gas OMP Edge and Yak so the CG would stay the same as the fuel ran down. I don't know how much fuse there is under the wing so it might not be feasible. The 67" Fusion is also a 0 coupling KE machine. Get it in KE and you can scratch your butt with your right hand all day. One of these days I'll only be working one job and will be able to finish my 80" Fusion...[&o]

Thanks Steve. Beyond the 50cc size, I don't have the scoop on those engines. Not many of those as light as the DA but you never know whose published weight includes what. Does BME even make the 5.8 single anymore??
