RE: WACO YMF
Hi guys, two weeks ago we had our 2010 Waco meeting in Bad Neuenahr/Germany. In 2009 we had only 3 participants, this year it were 9 !!! All of them were equiped with Moki radial, most 250. The soundcheck of them was postet a few posts before. Here a few pics: Regards Bernie [image]http://berndmuelller.de/Bilder/Waco/013.jpg[/image] [image]http://berndmuelller.de/Bilder/Waco/014.jpg[/image] [image]http://berndmuelller.de/Bilder/Waco/015.jpg[/image] [image]http://berndmuelller.de/Bilder/Waco/016.jpg[/image] [image]http://berndmuelller.de/Bilder/Waco/017.jpg[/image] [image]http://berndmuelller.de/Bilder/Waco/019.jpg[/image] [image]http://berndmuelller.de/Bilder/Waco/018.jpg[/image] [image]http://berndmuelller.de/Bilder/Waco/020.jpg[/image]

RE: WACO YMF
[quote]ORIGINAL: jn4dflyer Okay I will take a stab at this.  I have been lurking in the shadows for sometime now.  I have been building the quarter scale Barth Spad, and I feel your pain on this kit.  Although they are excellent kits some times they are difficult to interpret.  My thoughts are the holes are to mount the turnbuckles, however they are not attached with sheet metal screws.  The sheet metal screws and the aluminum plates go on the wing mount for the cable attachment.  The two holes in the alloy plate align with the 594 backing plates.  Okay the turnbuckle ends need to be mounted in the location of the two holes on your bulkhead.  There should be in the parts package two standoffs and two machine screws with nuts and washers, these would go through the bulkhead with backing plates and through your turnbuckles.  If you do not have the parts they would be easy to fabricate, generally in the kits I have built the turnbuckles are mounted on the same plane and sometimes the wires do touch.  However if you adjust the standoffs slightly so they do not touch, it would not hurt anything.  You will need the standoffs at the bulkhead so you can adjust them.  If they are tight against the bulkhead they are difficult to turn, and install safety wire.  This is how I would approach this task.  Maybe one of the brotherhood has already tackled this and has another solution. Larry [/quote] @Ekim I agree, this holes are for mounting the turnbuckles. Screw in the former the small plywood parts with the aluminum brackets and a bit resin between the wooden parts. Then mount the turnbuckles with the threaded screws. Have builded the 1/3 scale 3 years ago, it was the same. Bernie

Hi Arno, I have a Barth Waco with 250 Moki, weight is about 25 kg's and she doesn't climb endless vertical, only up to the moment, when the momentum is degraded. Propeller is a 32x18.

RE: MOKI RADIAL Care and Maintenence
Hi guys, I'm a bit astonished, what kind of small props you are using in USA with the Moki. This engine has so much torque, try it, I have flown my Waco 1/3 scale with the 250 Moki with a 32x22 Biela Prop, that was too much, after starting the plane rolled very strong to the left side, now I fly with a 32x20 on it., here in Europe nobody uses sizes under x18 pitch. RE: MOKI RADIAL Care and Maintenence
Hi guys, here the result of an experiment, to install a 5-blade prop in the size 28x16 to a Moki 250. The Waco is only the test platform for it, the motor with this prop will be installed in a 1/4 scale Sea Fury from Jerry Bates. A small video of the first test run is [link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5piKp94CCY]here[/link]. It turns about 4200 rpm's, I think, its possible, to increase the size to 30x16. The prop is made from Zinger props and he took 125 $ +shipping. You see, it mustn't always be a solo prop. Additional a few pics, Bernie

RE: MOKI RADIAL Care and Maintenence
Hi guys in the States, Bernie here from Germany. Thats a good idea from Scott to start this thread, as I can see, there is a lot of interest for this engine. I'm a little bit astonished, what small props you are using. Here in Germany most are using a 32x18, I take fore my new Sea Fury 1/4 scale a 32x20, the 250 Moki loves props with a high pitch and hates high rpm's. Ideal is 4000-4400 rpm's. The hose from the pump to the carb was only at the first 3 hours dirty, now after this time its clear, light grey. Have you guys too the prob, loosing one of the lower cylinders? The plugs are totally black? Reason is the insufficient distribution of the gas in the crank case, the lower cylinders gets a more rich mixture than the uppers. A guy here in the german Warbirdforum has developed a turbulator for the Moki, 150, 215 and 250 model. It makes that the gas stream behind the carb rotate and the distribution is much more better. The running is more smooth, the two needels for low and high are easyier to adjust, you can turn them more lean, and the consumption is better too. Best results we had with a combination of turbolator and an electric fuel pump. Her a few pics of the turbulator: Bernie PS.: If anybody is interesting, [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_8038201/anchors_8038201/mpage_1/key_Sea%252CFury%252CBates/anchor/tm.htm#8038201]here[/link] is a building report of the Sea Fury.

RE: Building the Sea Fury 1/4 from Jerry Bates
Hi, the structrual work on the Sea Fury is at this point ready, I could assemble here today together for taking the CG and the total weight. The CG is on the exactly right point with the Moki and a 1200g hammer in the front. The hammer shell simulate the weight of the prop, batteries, tank etc.. You can also see the new turbulator of the carb, it shell make a spinning stream from the carb into the crankcase, for an evenly distribution of the gas. No more fail out of the lower cylinders and a smooth combustion at less consumption. The plane is now sheeted with a cloth of fibre glass, 80gs. on the wing and 49gs on the fuse.....take a look! Regards Bernie

RE: Building the Sea Fury 1/4 from Jerry Bates
Hi, for those, who are interested on this building report.......it seems, there are really not many???? Now the transitions fuse-wing are ready, they are made of PU-Foam and will be covered with glas fabric. Also this big spinner, its ompossible, to buy a ready product in this size. Its self laminated in carbone and has a diameter of 200mm, in the plan of Jerry Bates it has 215mm. Not so scale, but reasonable andt the 250 Moki radial gets mor fresh cooling air. Bernie

RE: Building the Sea Fury 1/4 from Jerry Bates
Hi, after I recieved the last missing parts this week, I could make the first test of the gear. Because its in upside down position, it goes out very slow and in very quick, in flying position its opposite, because of this is the little pause, until the inner doors close. But note, it works all witout using a sequencer, this part does the software in the TX. Here a short video of it. Bernie

RE: Building the Sea Fury 1/4 from Jerry Bates
Hi guys, finally the mounting of the gears and its doors are ready. I had to set up tha main gear for 10mm, they were to deep in the wing. When the main gear went out, I had an overcame of the main doors of 15mm in direction outer wing panels, and no more space for the small outer doors. It was a long way, until every ball link was in the right position at these small doors. Now all works fine and the next step will be the transitions wing to fuse. I also ordered a lighter tail gear, its 80g lighter than the Sierra. Regards Bernie

The engine of the Waco is stripped out for taking measurements for the Sea Fury, but in 23.August we have a Waco meeting here in Germany in Bad Neuenahr, until now we have 11 (ELEVEN) Waco's.......... i think, thats not so far away from you? RE: Building the Sea Fury 1/4 from Jerry Bates
Hi Guys, the trial to laminate the door with the reinforcement profiles had no success, the elastic vacuum foil didn't fit close in the corners...it looks awful! Produced a waste product........it was a trial. I made them by the flat methode, perhaps i imitate these reinforcement profiles later. You can also see the small restrictor valve, i hope it works. @ Rick Many thanks for the compliments.......I'm getting red I think, the installed tubes in the wing are good enough, they only shell bring a LITTLE bit fresh air to the carb without boosting, thats all ! To build such a model, during two years or more, brings very very much satisfaction, it trains your brain and your knowhow and...and...and.. I never will sell such a model, there's too much heart's blood in. Try it by your self, you can do it, if you only really want it, you can do it............. .and dont buy these simple ARF planes, you have a really another aspect to your model !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sorry for my simple english, I do my best! RE: Building the Sea Fury 1/4 from Jerry Bates
Hi Phil, I decided, to use a unidirectional choke valve, it works in one direction with full preshure, the othe can be adjusted as you want. I will also use an electronical valve for switching the gears, look here:link for it. Many of german users of these mechanical valves have leaky systems. The inner doors I will drive by two servos, the sequencer works by the TX, programmable in every direction and any speed and times, Futaba, it works great. I will report, when I recieved the parts. @ Rick Thanks for your post, will answer soon ! Regards Bernie
