RE: SNFF 01 01 2012
Very nice YHR. I myself haven't really messed with any of my RC tanks at the moment. Not a whole lot of time I can invest at the moment. But, they are on stand by! Anyhow, got this 1/35 model M2 Bradley for Christmas and finally had a chance to build it yesterday. As stated, don't have a whole lot of time these days so I decided to ignore the urge to research and study accuracies, so this model build is simply going to be an out of the box build. Close to the middle stages of painting......if I could stop critquing, backtracking, and just move forward.

Wow Pah co!! The digi camo came out great! Wish I could say I got far on my leo build, but it's exactly where I left it off, lol! The winter camo is a great idea, especially since you have the luxary of snow. Me being in Florida.....I suppose netting with palm tree frawns would look.....okay? Meh...me don't think so. lol

RE: Home Made Spray Booth
No problem, to be honest many people have used and built booths like yours (including myself) and never had problems. But, I suppose it really depends on how often you spray with flammables for it to be of concerns. But aslong as you're aware (and prepared) I don't think it's much of a worry. Hell, I've used computer case fans on the fly years ago, lol. Here's a great site for building a paint booth and even gets into theroies and calculations. http://www.modelersite.com/Abr2003/english/Spray-booth-design_Eng.htm

RE: Home Made Spray Booth
Very nice! There is caution to consider when using electrical fans for a paint booth, especially when the whole assembly is flammable. When I built mine some years back, I used a squirrel cage blower which moves a little over 300cfm of air. The blower only cost 50 bucks and everything else such a wood I already had, so the upfront cost wasn't much at all. At the time, I went through 2 different builds before settling on a down draft paint booth because the amount of air I was moving with a cross draft set up (such as yours) was pulling in plenty of dust on items painted. At any rate, great job and be careful with the flammable paints!

RE: Pah co's 2A6 build
It appears that the biggest problem will be eliminating all possibilities of over spray. I'm a stickler when it comes to over spray and the absolute thought of this happening towards the final stages of the camo really terrifies me. I'm half tempted to just buy a decal maker and print the patterns out and say "to hell with painting it" altogether! lol

RE: Pah co's 2A6 build
I agree, being able to conform around angles and obstacles is surely a requirement for clean lines, which is why I'll likely use masking sheets that I can print on and peel from. I wonder what masking over unsealed paint multiple times will do? I guesstimate that you're going to have to repeat your procedure several times to achieve the digi effect and if you're working with smaller squares......who knows?

RE: Pah co's 2A6 build
I think you have a good method going on there. As for me, my method would have been no easier. My intention was to create 3 templates (one for each color) on either clear masking sheets or acetate. The first step will be to get the scaling perfect of course. Then on Adobe or Corel, create 3 overlapping layers that I could print onto the acetate or masking sheets separately. Cut out the patterns, then hope for the best thereafter! lol

Moving right along there Greg! Seems we both have similar taste cause that was the same Digi camo I was going to do.[:D] Any reason why you're only replacing the bushings for the idlers? Me personally, I may have went overboard with replacing all the bushings for bearings (not to mention metal swing arms which I think that was likely a waste of money) but for 76 bearings at 40 bucks, why not? lol

RE: Pah co's 2A6 build
Greg, As for the sprockets coming apart, I really feel Tamiya could have designed them better. For a tank that is capable of greater speeds than any Tamiya/Heng Long tank on the market, one would think the sprocket assembly would share similarities to the sprockets of slower tanks. But instead, the inner half of the sprocket is what is actually screwed into the axle and the outer half is just glued on. What would have been better is if both halves screwed into the axle and then a hub cap hides the screw........but I guess that would have made too much sense. lol Anyhow, J.B. Weld has done the job that Tamiya's factory cement could not do. So, I personally wouldn't worry about the sprockets until it happens...cause after all, it may not happen to you. (But I doubt it, lol) At any rate, , I'm looking forward to your build!

RE: The Tanker's Lounge
Okay, I need someone to talk some sense into me. For a few months, the temptation to go to a semi-Tank graveyard is killing me, (I say semi because I've been told many of the tanks may still have keys in them and are still functional.) I'm more curious to see what tanks are there and I'm almost certain that they'll be more turret-less tanks than there will be complete ones, but judging by the areal view....I may be wrong. It's not gated, guarded, nor is the site in public view but is certainly accessible by the public.....if it were widely known by the public. Fortunately in my case, I happen to sell a car to a government contractor who was revealing little knowns about the local area. Once he mentioned tanks, he had my full attention. He even confirmed again that anyone can drive through it......but he kept repeating...DO NOT GET OUT OF THE CAR. That's going to be my problem. Will it be worth having assault rifles pointed at my face and the possible legal ramifications? I'm thinking yes, but my pockets say hell no. lol

RE: Solutions to the Leopard's chronic turret sag?
Whitewolf, I have since then solved that problem and I reluctantly admit that it was user error. Even though I went through a very dangerous step to heat the bottem half with a heat gun to create a greater incline, it proved as a temporary remedy and slowly sagged back down revealing that this was not the solution. So,........this is what actually fixed it. If you missed this one very important detail such as I (and it's likely that you did since you're experiencing this same thing) You're going to have to back track to this stage and man was that a pain. If you still find that you have this issue, then...the other possibility is stripped screws towards the front that is no longer holding the turret ring firmly down in place or you've installed the turret ring in the wrong direction. But I'm willing to bet that the issue is due to what I've circled in the pic below....very easy to overlook.
