RE: OS AX 46 needs more power
ORIGINAL: daven The OS AX .46 is faster the OS FX .46, well documented in our area as we have been racing those motors for somewhere around 15 years. Ignore your RPM / PITCH calculations, I won a ton of races using a standard APC 10x7 Sport Prop. A couple of the APC pylon props do work, I believe many of them are using the 9 1/2'' x 8.5 N (Single N, not double NN). Good luck.
I don't think the AX has been around 10 years, much less 15. My experience with both has the FX faster on top end, the AX torquier at lower rpms.

RE: OS AX 46 needs more power
Higher ABEC ratings (numerically) do not mean that the bearing will spin faster nor with less drag. They are a tighter fit bearing with less clearance between the races and balls. Less clearance = more drag. Less clearance also means better precision and is why the highly rated bearings are used in precision instruments. It amazes me what some people will post! BTW, I'm a mechanical engineer that specifies the correct bearings to be used in the machines that I design.

The stock bearings should be fine. These engines are designed to turn around 17k or so.

Thinner air at altitude presents less resistance to rolling therefore it rolls more. Makes sense to me, how about you?

Some further speeds with the engine tuned properly, still no cowl or wheel pants or tuned pipe. 12x10 119 mph 12x11 117 mph 13x11 116 mph Still got a few more props to try before I add a tuned pipe.

I've seen that vid, the plane is smokin' fast!! My engine is not the FIRE, it is a FISE BSE with Jett muffler. Does that marine pipe make the engine real peaky?

RE: o,s, 32 max
'twas the Extreme Composites, if I remember correctly. I tried 9 x 6, 9 x 7, & 9 x 8 on stock muffler, the 9 x 8 was the fastest in a dive though it did run a bit on the warm side. 9 x 7 was fastest in level flight. The next one (I have a new LR-1 in the box) will have my Jett 35 on it.

RE: Little Toni w/ OS 95AX
Tuned for speed means leaned out for maximum speed, not 1000 rpm richer...not pig rich as stated above. As for wheel pants, some help aeros, some do not. Depends on frontal area and how sharp the trailing edge is.

RE: Little Toni w/ OS 95AX
Finally got the wing repaired after a botched landing. Still running pig rich breaking the new engine in. So far, speeds as follows: 12 x 10 113 mph 12 x 11 114 mph 12 x 12 116 mph 11 x 12 104 mph 13 x 11 104 mph These speeds are on different days, no wheel pants, no cowl. Speeds recorded by Eagletree. I figure another 10 mph tuned for speed, another 5-10 mph with wheel pants and cowl. Then...add tuned pipe for maybe another 8-10 mph.

RE: First
ORIGINAL: airraptor Just to let you know the GP Little Toni will not do 120 with a 60-95 size engine. and a 120 will be lucky to get 110. The fastest one ever was with a OS 91 DF engine and it only got to 150. you could put a YS 115 in it and get 130.
Mine has done 118 with the 95AX and 12 x 10 APC prop, stock muffler, that is still running way rich, not broke in yet. So I think 120 is well within it's sights. I've got the Eagletree speed recorder (uses a pitot tube). Can't wait to see what it does when I prop it up a bit to 12 x 12 and tune it with a pipe.[8D] I'll let you know after I repair the damage my landing gear did to my wing on a muffed landing. (I hate fixing leading edges)[>:]

120 is pretty easy with a Q-500 and a .25-.40 engine. Fairly cheap too.

RE: First
Depends on how fast you want to go. For 60 size, I like the Little Toni, speed about 120. For 40 size, Q-500 such as the Viper, speed about 120-140. If you want to go faster, there are some options, but they start getting expensive too.

RE: Great Planes Shoestring ARF 54 Need 125 MPH!
Fairly new props. I don't think there is a mold line on them, but they are not in front of me right now either. The plane (Kaos) is actually slower with a 10 x 8 or 10 x 7 than with the 9 pitch. The muffler length with the spacer is probably too long for those props.
ORIGINAL: freakingfast On the OS 55, the most extension/spacer I run is 1/8''. Any more and it moves the power band too low and the hp just falls off (even with different props) A dog. Dang engine is picky.
I'm running the 55 with the Jett red muffler and a 3/8" extension. It pulls the APC 10x9 at about 14200-14400 static. I wouldn't call that a dog.

The bubble jet is a tight fit. You will need to flatten the top of it for the cover to fit.

I run the 55 w/ Jett muffler on a Tower Kaos using a APC 10x9, 118 mph on radar (out of dive). It is slightly slower with a 10x7 and 10x8 on this airframe.
