RE: DA-100 or 3W-106
That 106 pulls way more than 8 oz harder than the competition :-)

RE: 37.5 or 40% Yak
ORIGINAL: Torqued-Up It will not balance on a 37.5%, period... It will be nose heavy on a new version 40% SD Yak... 12 lbs is a lot of nose weight to counter-balance... My newer version 40% SD Yak balances perfectly with a 8.5 lb engine... AUW is 45 lbs... That's if you can find a 40% version... I've been told that they are technically out of production, but SD will build them if the factory gets an order for 10 or more from a dealer... Chief or Troybuilt may still have some in stock... Hope this helps...
Thanks for the info, where are your batteries etc mounted? Can I shift stuff back to get it closer to balancing? Also the 212 is 3.58" longer than a 3W 157. What is the distance from the firewall to the front of the cowl? Can I shorten the firewall to recess the engine more?

37.5 or 40% Yak
I've just bought a 3W 212 B4 QS engine and would like some opinions on which TOC Extreme Yak I should put it in. I was going to go with the 170CS in a 37.5% but the 4 cyl sounds so sweet but 3 lbs more. Should I go with the 121" or the 129" wing span? Do these planes balance ok with a 12 lb engine? Does anyone have any experience with 212 B4? Any info appreciated.

RE: DA-100 or 3W-106
I don't have any numbers for ya but I have a MSC 27x10 on my 106 Qs and it pulls out of a hover real hard. My engine has over 25 gallons of fuel through it and it just keeps getting better. Don't lean it out, don't go leaner than 50:1 oil, keep it cool and it will keep getting better!

RE: Spinner moving on a BME 110
A machinist buddy of mine made me up a 6 bolt hub with the same bolt pattern as the 3W & DA's cost me $50.00 but it works & looks great. I can see if he's in the mood to make more if anybody is interested? Drop me an email Biglen lenair@shaw.ca

RE: 3W timing Question
Look on the prop hub and you'll see a line on it, match it up with the line on the crankcase. Now your engine is at top dead center, now align your pickup so that 1/2 of the magnet is covered with the pickup. This is where 3W wants the timing set. Biglen

You'd be best using a Vmar for firewood. And the Importer of Vmar is a real piece of work as well! I have a World Models Extra and its grrrrreat!

Check into a Sig four star 120, much the same as a Ace Big Bingo I used to have! Len Carlson May your altimeter never read -1!

RE: 3W 50 Starting Problems
Check your reed valve, there is probably a small opening at the end of it. This will not allow proper vacuum to suck the fuel up or operate your fuel pump. If you take off the carb you might be able to see it, but if not take off the reed cage and inspect fully. Hope this is it! Len Carlson May your altimeter never read -1!
