ORIGINAL: jfetter
ORIGINAL: jooNorway OK, then I understand. The standard Hacker have 14 poles, and your Hacker is the "heli"-version. Just proves how much (little) I know about Hacker [:)]
It "was" the heli version (may it rest in peace). Actually the guy that recommended it was way off-base, I should have validated the setup in MotoCalc like normal but didn't... Jack
I feel better now as I have the non-heli version in a big E3D 63 and on 5s swinging a 19x8 Xoar I'm only pulling 48-50 amps. So on 6s turning a 15x10 or 16x10 I'd think it would be a very nice setup. I've never had a problem one with my Hackers and I've used a lot of them and continue to do so. Most of my planes have them in fact. BK

SebArt's Katana 50 a little over year ago was one of the first such. You actually had to buy a kit to convert it to IC. Since that time there have been several other manufacturers that have gone this route in the 55" to 85" WS range. SebArt was one of the first though!! Great thread BTW!! The pictures are nice to see. I've downloaded the latest video driver, but either it's not installing or is still not compatable. The USB is showing as being present in the task bar when I plug it in so I know that Windows is seeing it. Just the program is not. I just found on IPACS site a PDF about some things to try. I have to uninstall and reinstall to a different dir for starters, that may help with the USB, but that won't help with video issues. :(
ORIGINAL: Can you try other usb ports and see if the usb cable is recognized? RE: New - SebArt 58" Katana 50E
I've spent a little more time building on this finally. Time has been short and work long... [&:] Anyway, I just can't get over how good the quality on this kit is. Like it's 30 size little brother this thing is top shelf all the way. One change that I've made from stock is the aileron hinges. I choose to use 1/8" dubro hinges. The key here is to take your time and to make sure you pack the joint with some p-jelly so that the hinges don't bind up with epxoy. I use some rubbing alcohol to clean up the excess epoxy as I go. I am also testing out a new motor for Luigi, I am waiting on some 5s packs that I've ordered to arrive so I've only run it up on 3s so far, but it's very smooth and turned a 16x10 at 150 watts with ease. Very quiet and seemingly plenty of torque. I can't wait for my 5s packs to arrive so that I can really test it out. I hope to have it mounted up to the plane this weekend and if the packs come maybe even fly it this weekend. Here are the pictures...

New - SebArt 58" Katana 50E
Hello, I just thought that I would share some pictures and document this build of my latest project from SebArt. After the successful and very fun build and great flying experiences with my Katana 30E this should be a winner too. The plane came double boxed and in great condition earlier this week. Luigi at [link=http://www.fedonaircraft.net/album1_004.htm]Fedon Aircraft[/link] is a great guy to deal with. First thing I always do is open the box and inspect for damage. Like its smaller counter part, everything in the box was tapped down and wrapped in its own bag. Everything is in perfect shape. The next step that I took was to unwrap everything and check for any further damage and to get some weights of the individual parts. BK

RE: New - SebArt 58" Katana 50E
A couple of notable differences between this model and it's smaller counter part are the lack of air escape holes on the bottom of the larger one. The air dam inside is in place, however due to the fact that this model can be 'converted' to use a glow motor the holes for air escape were left uncut. Yes in the manual the kit to convert this to IC is sold extra. I can remember a time not so long ago that this would have been a conversion the other way. Fun stuff. I went so far as to glue the wing fillets in place and then to mount up the wings to the fuse in a test. I'll work on it more tomorrow evening and post some more pictures then. This model like the 30 size can go together in an couple of evenings if one so chose. I took the time to post some side by side pictures to show how much larger the K50 is over it's smaller counter part.

RE: New - Katana S30e by Sebart - Looks Awesome
Ed, While it's probably ok to go up to a 12 or even 13 due to the fact that the props unload in the air and current draw drops off a lot it's your call. I'm running a Hacker A30-12L and ran a 10XL before that. Both are rated for higher props. I have no personal experience with that Axi, but I've flown enough of them in my time and they will treat you right. I would not do a lot of bench testing with a larger prop as that will heat things up a lot. Best thing would be a short test to see where it's at, and do a series of short test flights to see what the motor, battery and esc temps come down at if you decide to go up to a larger prop. You may find that the 11 or 12 is fine. I would recommend going up in small steps though for sure. BK
ORIGINAL: eschummer Hmmm ... This is a 475W (max) motor. Everywhere in the specs it calls for props in the size of 11x5.5 to 12x6. Max current is said to be 42A. I'm afarid I might exceed that with a bigger prop...Any experience with this motor? I've been pretty happy with the smaller AXI's (2808) on smaller models (Mini-Katana, Edge 540, etc.). Thanks, Ed PS: I'm pretty new to all this elctric stuff...(my other plane is a 102" Katana with a 3W 106)
Both of my setups have come in at or around your weight and the plane handles the weight just fine. I'm not sure about those prop sizes though as the smallest that I've flown with is a 13x6.5. Let us know what you settle on. BK
ORIGINAL: eschummer I just finished putting mine together day before yesterday. Here's the equipment: Axi 2820/10 JETI +40 ESC Evo 2150 3S Hitec HS 65's all around The weight came in at 46.9 oz., a little heavy compared to some of the other setups (might be the motor/ESC combo?). I'm still debating with myself on the prop. Currently I have Graupner CAM 11x6 on it - it draws about 37 A with that at full bore. Might switch to a APC 11x7E tomorrow, or whenever the first halfway decent flying day comes up. Ed
