RE: Different Types of Receivers Questions
ORIGINAL: rmh some materials -if they surround th antenna will block signals - a big fuel tankful of fuelperhaps or a solid carbon fibre fuselage with antenna both inside.
OK, thanks. It'll go in a SIG Kadet MK II with an 8 oz. tank. Hopefully I'll get it in a good place. The Fuse is just Balsa

RE: Different Types of Receivers Questions
I went with a basic Rx for my trainer.. Just a 4-channel AR400.. I don't see myself needing to have seperate aileron servos so I think I'll be fine while I train.. Thanks all for the info.. Side note.. I almost bought an AR500 off E-Bay.. I Googled it and almost every search result was something negative about that Rx.. Seems they might have had a problem with an IC chip in them or something.. I stayed away, sad too, it was only $23 NIB

RE: Can I use Epoxy on A Foamie?
ORIGINAL: GRandolph Yes! I broke my fuselage in half just behind the wings and glued it back together with 15 min epoxy. A few weeks later I broke it in half again. The joint that was epoxied held with the break being less than one inch away. I epoxied the second break and am still flying it.
Thanks

AR500 Thoughts ?
I seen a Spektrun Full Range AR500 Rx on E-Bay for $23.. When I Google'd it, a lot of "complaint" search results came up.. Just curious if anyone here has had one of these Rx? Should I stay away from this Rx? Would it be a good Rx for my Sig MK II trainer?
ORIGINAL: carrellh Bill, I thought you were getting an Airtronics transmitter. If so you cannot use a Spektrum receiver.
I went to my soon to be club's airfield and none of the other members had an Airtronics. I am gonna go Spektrum so I can Buddy Box.. Even if it is somehow compatible to still B-Box between the Airtronics and the Spektrums, I'm still going Spektrum so they can help me program it and all that.

RE: Mounting Ailerons Servo
ORIGINAL: BarracudaHockey You should have self tapping screws, rubber grommets, and brass collets. Install the grommets, push the brass collets up from the bottom of the grommet with the flange on the bottom, then use the screw to tap a hole, remove the screw and put a drop of thin CA in the hole to harden the thread, then mount the servos.
Thanks I didn't know I was suppose to use the brass collets also.

Mounting Ailerons Servo
I have the Spektrum A6060 servos. Do you just mount the servo right to the wood through the rubber gromets and the 'c ' shaped ears of the case? Or do you make or buy an flange? Reason I ask is the Sig MK II manual tells me to frame it in such and such away, then shows a pic that looks like it has some type of flange around it. I can't think of what would make the difference, but thought I'd ask.

Different Types of Receivers Questions
I'm slowly trying to learn all the radio equipment.. I came across an Spektrum AR6115e.. The Spektrum page calls this a Microlite Park Flyer receiver... Other than having 6 channels, what are the differences from an AR8000 which has 8 channels? Could I use a Park Flyer Receiver in a SIG trainer plane?

RE: Newbie Servo Questions.
I picked up my servos for my trainer yesterday.. I just went with the Spektrum A6060. I still need the rest of the radio, but this will keep me building for a little while. What all can be programmed on say the Spektrum DX8 compared to the Spektrum DX6i ? Or even an DX7 ?

RE: Newbie Servo Questions.
ORIGINAL: Bozarth Bill, The sim games can mess you up - for airplanes, pulling the stick back towards your chest is the standard to make the plane climb. Hold it there long enough and the plane will loop (assuming it has enough power). Pushing the throttle stick foward adds power - as if you were stepping on the gas. Kurt
Yep thats the way this XBOX RC-Sim is.. That's what I meant by "Up is Down" you push up on the right analog stick of the XBOX controller and the plane goes down and vice versa... The left analog stick is the throttle "Up is more gas" which I guess also makes the XBOX controller an Mode 2.

OK, I get what you mean there.. Is that about all you can change? That is one thing that took me awhile to get use to on the XBOX RC-Sim game... Down is Up and all that.. I wouldn't change that now.. however...Haha

I think they might be as excited for me as I am about beginning this hobby.. At least this was my 1st impression..

RE: Newbie Servo Questions.
ORIGINAL: rgburrill But do make sure they have a connector that fits your receiver. It is frustrating as all get out if you buy servos with Futaba J connectors but you receiver uses Airtronics connectors. You can use them if you know how but it's a pain.
Yeah I was wondering about the Servos to Rx compatibility.. I wasn't sure if Servos all had a universal connector or what?

RE: Newbie Servo Questions.
ORIGINAL: GTMUSTANGCS Also I would buy a radio system that includes the TX, RX, servos, the TX and the RX batteries and the charger as a package to start off with. At least a 6 channel if you can afford it. A 4 channel is good to start if you are on a budget. It will control alot of planes. As you learn about TX's and RX's and servo's etc. and what goes with what and you progress with planes you can make those choices. Guess I'm trying to say start simple,, good luck. Joe
I don't know why I can never find the whole package when I search.. Take the Spektrum DX7 for example.. I can find it as a package on the Spektrum website... www.spektrumrc.com/Products/Default.aspx But if I Google it and search all I can ever find is the Tx+Rx without servos at the most. Sometimes just the Tx alone. edit: and if I do my zip code and search the LHS website I find the same thing Tx+Rx at the most..?

RE: Newbie Servo Questions.
ORIGINAL: woodie Bill, if your transmitter supports dual aileron servos, IMO it is actually easier to set up/trim the plane with dual aileron servos instead of a single. The single will work fine, but any need for aileron differential or things like that will require you to adjust mechanically rather than programming thru the transmitter. Woodie
I haven't picked a transmitter yet.. Still trying to get myself to get the DX8, but the DX6i fits my budget a little better... Still undecided on that one.
ORIGINAL: 1320Fastback Congratulations! The HZSC was my first RC plane also.
Thanks, it's a fun plane so far.. I just had it on the Low setting , the one that makes it where you only get 70% of the Rudder and Elevator range.. << Can't think of how to word that? Haha I think I only had the amti crash technology kick in once, and that was about a minute into my 1st flight in my entire life..
ORIGINAL: guver Nice job Bill. Congrats. Now try to wipe that grin off your face and give it another toss up in the air tomorrow if calm. ps. All my Cubs seem to nose over when landing in my back grass. My biggest is a foam 4 ft wingspan and after putting bigger wheels and removing the pants if I do it right it will land ok , but won't take off at all. RE: Newbie Servo Questions.
ORIGINAL: JohnBuckner Are you using two aileron servos in your MK 11 or are you going with a single servo? RE: Newbie Servo Questions.
ORIGINAL: BarracudaHockey At the risk of sounding flippant, its for programming digital servos :) There's only a few that you can program like Hitec's and a few of the Spektrum and other servos here and there but it allows you to set throws and end points via the programmer instead of the radio. It works in situations where you have a less capable radio and need to match servos for things like multiple servos on one surface on a giant scale plane etc.
Yeah, I left the door wide open for that one...haha Sounds like something I don't need for now.

1st time airborne with my HZ Super Cub
Well today was a nice calm day so I finally took my Hobby Zone Super Cub out. It actually made it back in one piece which makes me pretty happy ! Only problem I had was I had to hand launch it though, I was having troubles finding enough runway for an take off. Only time I really wrecked was when I tried to land.. Not thinking, I had the landing gear on and the grass was pretty tall where I was flying. This made the Cub just nose dive forward once the wheels touched the ground. Pretty cool watching it circle around the park although I wish it had ailerons. Seem like my wings were alwas slightly tip in what ever direction I was going? I'm sure to anyone with experience I was All over the Place, but I was in the air and thats what counts to me..haha.. Now I can't wait till my Sig MK II is ready to fly..
