RE: Central NEW YORK boaters
Have you tried an H-32 on the Mongoose? It is the preferred props on the SGX hulls.

RE: Central NEW YORK boaters
Roger, It sounds like Rick is considering converting a tunnel. If so the cats are generally set at 32% to 34% CG depending on the power. Personally, I would go with roughly 32% and add bow weight if necessary. The more power, the further forward the CG. This helps if you start out with a milder motor and then decide to step up. Bill

RE: Central NEW YORK boaters
ORIGINAL: engineman351 Craig & Neil...maybe you should try strapping in an 8oz Sullivan flex tank that has a solid pick-up in the left rear corner and a vent tube in the 'bubble' just to see if the tank makes any difference. The boat looked like it was running great. I'm thinking if it had bad bearings or an air leak, it would not maintain a good rpm for very long. Roger
Have to agree with Roger. If the bearings were bad, you would not be able to hold a needle. The Walt Barney tanks usually have a trap built into the left rear corner and the pickup goes there. Wonder if the tube has a crack in it?

They can help quite a bit with nitro. You also find motors for sale there from reputable folks. OPS parts are going more difficult to find if you need them. US importer is no longer there. Tom Galdys (from Elmira club) had many OPS engines and parts for sale and it would be wise to hook up with him. Just a hit on the larger motors: newer motors use needle roller bearings on the conrod and not bushings. Bill
RE: Central NEW YORK boaters
ORIGINAL: Blackout
ORIGINAL: engineman351 Ricky, If you have old unused plugs, I would certainly try using them as long as they aren't rusty. What you paid $3.49 for is now $7.99!! I do have MC9's at Dan's if you need a couple. On fuel, I can let you use a quart of 50% out of my stock. The local hobby shops will only get you what they can get from their distributors...and that would usually be 30% O'Donnell for $29 a qt!! We go to Elmira the 8th/9th of Sep...so one of us should be able to get a gallon of 40%. BTW...Craig will like this...If you had a GAS powered boat you would not need glo-plugs or nitro fuel!!! Just teasing. Roger
Ask Neil what he thinks of gas engines lately..... ;)
I still have 2 fast nitro riggers that will never be run again by me. I have been running gas exclusively for 5 years and the principle reason is consistency and repeatability. Out of all the motors I have (I have a few), only 1 failed with cylinder head separation. Roger's point is well taken. Be careful running car/air fuel in boats as there is less oil in the mix. I believe Red Max is 19% - 20% oils.

Picking up may help in the cost. But gas is going up every day seams like.
They ship quantities on pallets and shipping to a business is cheaper. Residential is where you take the hit.
ORIGINAL: advanced builder Rick, Craig or I can download the form. So late in the season ,we will see what we can do. Don't worry about the form ,we'll get you one. We should have some around anyways. And we picked up Charley another new member. 2 in one day. Looks like we are becoming a club. All good Since we are becoming a club we should have club deals on fuel and plugs. We need to talk to Bill or Pete. about that.
Neil, Pete usually brokers the fuel ordering. You can either link up with him or establish your own rleationship ([link=http://www.fhsoils.com/model.html]FHS Fuel[/link]). It would pay to do your homework to save money as shipping can really hurt with the HazMat charges. Quarts can ship UPS (expensive), whereas gallon are frieght (there is an effective minimum order). I used to be the plug 'go to' person but am no longer in the loop. Phil's Hobbies used to have some very good deals on quantities. Tower, on occasion, will offer decent deals. They are the ones who introduced the O'Donnell Blues. Hope this helps. Bill
ORIGINAL: advanced builder
ORIGINAL: engineman351 Well, the rigger bug bit me again as I snagged a 21JAE off IW... It's all built with most of the hardware. I'll need a rudder and stuffing tube. So, I think Craig, Neil & Tom D. has one (did I miss anyone else?)...so if we all show up at Elmira that could be a class, no? Roger
I wonder how many hulls you have!!!! Roger Ive been tying to catch up . I did win a new hull from Aeromarine. I decided on a Scorpion .21 So look out seducers. A 1/2 hour before I won a hull I picked up a gas Whiplash. Next season on them. I do my building in the winter. Unless I damage a hull. I thought my driving was getting better until I hit Dicks C box. I was getting too wild ,So I better drive safe, first. My gas Vee is ready to test, I changed motors. The M&D engine is down for repair's Water did damage to the piston on the carb side. I did get to look inside the M&D ,I can do what Matt did. The bottom end has no mods. except for his bearings. My mod engine is in the Vee .The .21 rigger is a fun class.
Neil, As that one of Dale Brobst's whips? He build nice hulls. Bill

RE: Central NEW YORK boaters
ORIGINAL: advanced builder My .45 rigger was the only good running hull I had. But it died 2X -not enough fuel in the Walt Barney tank. I ran it in open rigger. Tim's twin is in 2 parts ,Yup buoy #1 a solid hit. the .45 will not keep up with a .67 engine. my gas engine need to be broke down, she won't start. The Gas Vee ran strong in the 3rd heat only to stop running on the back stretch, She won't start. [:@] Another make of.21 riggers DOMINATED the .21 rigger class. ,They put the JAE to sleep. My rigger was slow compared to them. I kept trying to turn a big prop ,no good. 4 -DNS LIVE AND LEARN.
What make 21 rigger was it? The JAEs are normally very competitive and do well. Many are running H7 props or cut down 1450's (1447-1448).

Lost an engine to a plugged water line (mud) and it only took 3 heats to figure out that the new radio in the outboard outrigger was wacked.
ORIGINAL: advanced builder The few more days will help me out. Saturday is fine. My gas rigger will be done and ready for testing. Some minor changes, like the 1/8 toe in. Sponsons modified. Got the QD inside the rigger. It's cool enough to go outside. I built a new Carb cover backwards left hand, got a new one coming. Thanks Joe for the good service. Bill I haven't given a PayPal gift in a while ,you may be right. The thick wall 5/16 will be tight with the cable. I used 5/16 the first time. Your saying no slop in the cable?
I use 5/16" .014 tubing for all 1/4" drives. Have tried the thick wall stuff. Be careful if annealing and don't overdue. I usually make gentle bends with a shaft in the tube as it helps prevent kinking.
ORIGINAL: Blackout Some of you may already know, but Stony Pond will be widened again this December. I have $4,000 set aside for this project and I'm asking for any donations. Even small donations will help. If money is tight and you can't afford to donate, that is fine, I completely understand. On top of the $4,000, I will match any donations up to a maximum of $1,000. If we get $1,000 in donations, then we will have $6,000 to work with. That should get us 28 hours of dozer and excavator work. My hope is that this will get us close to 250 feet wide and we should be able to hold official races! It's hard to know for sure, but either way we will be allot wider.
