RE: Lanier RC Stinger II by Great Planes.
rfan 1, Sounds like a very good flyer, I used to have the 120 size and it flew very well, so when this one came out I new that it would be a good flyer. Also I was going to try a 13 X 8 prop, and from your info I think it will work. Good job, thanks for the update. Jim

RE: Lanier RC Stinger II by Great Planes.
Hey guys, I'm doing this conversion also. I went with the E flite 46 for tne motor and E flite ESC 60 amp. I also cut out the tank floor and made a floor for the battery pack. Not shure which size prop to use yet. Mine balanced a little tail heavy but I had to order a new spinner, the one in the kit wobbles. So I will do a finale balance when it comes. Jim

One other thing, there was a lot of damage done to the 1/8" plywood which would be the first bulkhead that the motor mount gets glued to, if I had though of it before I would have made this at least 1/4". I will have to repair this and make it stronger. Jim

Dave, Thanks for the info. I was looking over the wheels and I think that the wheels moved foward up into the front of the wheel pants. Form a photo that was taken of my landing you can't see any tire, the wheel pants are scraping the pavement. So I'm ging to put a stop to limit the landing gear travel. Also I have also thought of foam to stabalize the pants. Jim

Ooops! Did not intend to double post. JL1 that's what I'm going to do to the pants. Need to do some repair to the motor mount as it has come loose. but I will have it back in the air at some point. Jim

Yes balance exactly how the instruction manuel tells you to. Here are some pictures and looking at pictures of my landing my wheels went up inside the pants that's why it nosed over. I guess I need to mount the pants with more wheel showing. Jim

RE: Page Aviation Kits
Did the maiden flight on the GeeBeeR2 today July 19,2011. After pulling out the BME 44 engine, I installed a Fuji 43, with Jtech muffler, the Fuji was a few ozs liter. Was ready to go to the field three weeks ago but all open space areas around Albuquerque were closed do to the worst forest fires in the state of New Mexico ( where I live) and Arizona the smoke was very heavy here. We were given permission to fly again on Wensday. The Fuji pulled with plenty of power needed a little up and right trim. This plane flies great did all straight fly bys nothing fancy. Flies very fast and is hard to slow down for landing, and yes it nosed over on a few feet rollout. Got lots of pictures I will post later. Jim

Ok! had no intrnet for a few days, but its back. No maiden flight Tuesday. My @%&$#& BME 44 would not draw fuel into the carb. After messing with it for a few hours at the field and all the help I got. I packed the Gee Bee up and came home. I extracted the BME and Wednesday installed a new Fuji 43. Have some work to do because everything is on the opposite side. Maybe two weeks. Jim

Ok, today I balanced the Gee Bee R2 and it took 6 oz of nose weight not too bad! And using my wife's Weight Watcher's bath scale it came in at 16.6 lbs. Now I have to build a way to tranport it to the field. Jim

RE: Page Aviation Kits
The covering job is a mixture. When I got the plane the wing was done with Sig Koverall. I glassed the wood sheeting on the fuselage because the wood had become brittle. For the open strigers I used solar coat and auto primer then rustolium paint. Don't know what it weighs will do that after I balance it. For being as big as it is, it's not very heavy. Jim

I am using Hitec HS635 HB for rudder and elevator, HS645 metal gear for the ailerons, 322HD for throttle, carbon fiber arrow shafts for push rods, 440 rods on ailerons, Spectrom AR9000 rx with two 6 volt 2150 nimh batteries on rx and one 4.6 volt nimh for ignition. Jim

RE: Page Aviation Kits
Yes this is Adrian Page's 1/4 scale. I had a BME 44 on hand so that is what I have mounted, this engine is a little lighter than a G26, also it will spin a 20 x 10 prop. I wanted as much prop blast as possible over the big cowl. Have not balanced it yet, but I did a quick check while taking pictures and I think that I will have to add nose weight. Jim

Well here it is after 4 years. A friend of mine started this kit about four years ago and in January he asked me if I wanted it, answer YES!! It was all framed up so I did the finish such as covering it and painting, installing all the servos, ect. Maybe maiden it in about two weeks, if the wind will ever stop. Jim

RE: 15cc Gas RCGF engine information thread
The carb on my engine is a HLIC number MC 1487-2 whatever that means. I have tried to find info on this carb with no luck when mine would not start. But it is running fine now with 60 oz of gas through it. On some of the 20cc engines they use a 9.52 mm venturi which is a welbro WT-45-1 but it costs 60 bucks, also a WT 134-1 7.92 mm venturi could not find one except for parts. So hopefully mine will stay running as it is now. Jim

RE: 15cc Gas RCGF engine information thread
On my engine I just keep turning the needle out until it started. I think I'm out about 2 3/4 turns out on the high end with steady tach readings about 7050 RPM. Then ajusted the low end for good throttle responce. I have three good flights on this engine, will fly it again tomorrow. This is the first engine I have that does'nt have a welbro carb and that needs a lot of open needle? Hope this helps. Jim

RE: 15cc Gas RCGF engine information thread
I had the same problem with my engine. So I turned the high and low end needles out untill it started using a starter. The carb seem to want to be rich on initial start. After it started I used a tach to set high end and I'm probebly about 2 3/4 turn out then I twiked the low end for go throttle responce. I have about three good flights with these settings and will fly again tomorrow. This is the first engine that I've had to crank out the needles on. Hope this helps. Jim

RE: 15cc Gas RCGF engine information thread
I did my maden today, got three good flights. The RCGF 15cc engine ran very well, it now has 20 oz of fuel through it and the AW ProX260 flew great. This little engine is perfect for this 40-60 size airplane, it did not over power it. Don't know if it will do extreme 3D because that is not my style of flying, but I had fun. So far I am pleased with this engine. Jim

Took your advise and opened the high and low end alot, also I mounted the fuel tank to the engine mount with a little help with gravity and needles opened it started. Ran 6 oz. through and then put the fuel tank back to where I had it and it is running fine. Tached at 7050 RPM but I'm at 5100 ft. Good throttle response maybe a maden tomorrow. Jim[:D]

Thanks for the input. We checked the needle settings at the field, high end was two and one half turns open and the low end two turns. I also always use a starter for my smaller gas engines, again thanks for the input. Jim

Ok, tried a maden today but it was cold and windy. Could not get the engine to run unless I primed it, but does'nt seem to be pulling gas from fuel tank. I think that maybe my tank is too low and far back for this little engine, any thoughts? Jim
