RE: New Great Planes Escapade 61.
ORIGINAL: Warren
ORIGINAL: darylk79 I just got my escapade .61 yesterday and it looks great! I'm confused what engine to put in it. I know i can put in a 65ax and it wil fly,and i know the 95ax it the best to use for a 2 stroke.I really want to go to a 75ax to be in the middle.I have the 40 size esapade with a 46ax and it flies great with plenty of power. This is my first 60 size plane and my 5th airplane overall. If anyone is planning on using the 75ax please let me know if you think it is strong enough to carry it with ease.Im not into hovering and all that just a nice smooth plane with power if i need it.My runway is about 100yards and sometimes i come in to fast and have to go around.I need to know that if i get in trouble and i throw the throttle all the way i can pull out at a steep angle for a go around. What do you guys recommend for something with medium speed and good power?
I think the 75AX would work great for you if you already have it - If not the 95AX is the same size and weight with quite a bit more power so I would consider buying it instead - You can always throttle back. ;) Albeit it is $80 more...
I guarantee you the $80 additional you might spend on the 95 AX will be long forgotten if you ever find you need a bit more juice to get her out of a scary situation.

RE: Great Planes Super Sportster 40 MkII
Here is a pic of the first generation Sporster ARF (RIP). I actually liked the covering scheme on this one more than the current version. The wing also had a black & white checkerboard pattern on the bottom side, which was a nice touch. The Sportsters are really nice flying planes. They are very forgiving and landings are a piece of cake. I remember having to reinforce the landing gear block on this one too. I have the current Sporster 40 ARF as well. If want to keep the landing gear as is, ie, mounted to the wing, the reinforcement involves cutting a hole through the sheeting on the top of the wing and then adding some epoxy on the landing gear block inside the wing. I hope Great Planes keeps the Sporster in their line up for a long time to come.

I'm very interested in this plane also. I've never owned a Seagull before. Any additional input on overall quality, parts fit etc would be appreciated. Also, how is the instruction manual? Clear instructions with photos are does it leave a lot to be desired. Thanks for any input.

RE: G.P. <span class=
I've had the GP Giles 202 NIB in my garage for 4 yrs. now. Well, I am finally dusting it off and am wanting to put this thing together finally. This thing is built like a tank and feels like it will weigh as much as the space shuttle when it's all done. I'll be using the OS 160 on it..... After reading through this thread I'm assuming the 160 will fly it okay. I won't be doing any 3d... just some sport IMAC aerobatic stuff. I'm in Denver so I have the altiitude to factor in. Any comments welcome on if the 160 will be enough engine for the Giles. Also, is the stock tank (16 oz) big enough or should I go with a larger tank? All comments welcome. [:D]

RE: SIG Four Star 60 Engine Size
I'm using the 91 fx two stroke on my 4 star 60. The 91 fx seems to get a bad rap with dead stick problems etc, but I've never had any problems with mine. It runs great and I wouldn't use anything less as it would be slightly underpowered with a 60 size in my opinion. I also fly at Colorado altitude so I need the extra hp.

Thunder Tiger Giles 202 -140 with OS 160
Would like to hear from anyone that installed the OS 160 in a TT Giles 202 -140. I would like to mount the engines sideways using a Bisson pitts muffler. The stock configuration has you mounting an engine at a 45 degree angle using a stock expansion style muffler. The fuel hole in the firewall is offset a bit too to accomodate this 45 degree install. Was that an isssue with a sideways set up? Any problems mounting the engine sideways with a pitts style muffler? (I also want to avoid an inverted install if at all possible. ) Any and all comments welcome... (photos welcome too!!) Many thanks. Joe

I fly mine with a 91 fx 2 stroker. It is definitely not overpowered, plus you have the extra muscle when you need it. Personally, I wouldn't go with anything less than a 90 in it. Just my .02$

RE: THunder TIger Giles 202 140
I am currently building the TT Giles 202 140. I am impressed with the overall quality of the plane and the hardware. While I haven't flown it yet, the feeback I've received from other owners has been very positive regarding flight characteristics and aerobatic capabilities. The control surfaces are generous which would contribute to being a potentially good 3d plane.

RE: Thunder Tiger Giles G-202-140
I'm also building the TT Giles 202 140 size and will be using an os 160 fx in it. I love the quality of the plane so far. From what I've read on this post, you wouldn't want anything smaller than a 150 or 160 size engine, especially if you want to pull out of a hover. Good bets would be the OS 160 2 stroke, Saito 150 or 180 4strokers, or Moki 1.8 or 2.10. Just my 2 cents... Would love to hear from others who have had experience with the os 160 in this plane also.

RE: What can you do to an ARF 4*60
I agree with Cruzo.. These things are great flyers. I have about 7 flights on mine so still getting to used to it as I haven't flown for a few years. Gotta love the landings though. Very easy... she just floats on in. Everything you hear about being a great, forgiving low wing plane is true.

RE: 4 * 60 throttle link
I used a throttle cable instead of a pushrod set-up. The cable has worked so far as it is sturdy enough. I also used E-Z connectors both on the servo and the throttle control horn. I wanted to use the E-Z connectors on both ends, but the pushrod I had was too small in diameter, thus I wasn't able to tighten down the screws on the connectors. Using a thicker, threaded type cable allowed me to do so. Probably an unconventional way, but the cable is sturdy enough, and after several flights it has worked fine. I have an os 90 fx on my 4 star 60. Joe
