Up until a few days ago, after months of pouring over Futaba, Airtronics and JR specs, I was considering a 10C. The deal is sealed - now what to dow with (6) 2.4 Futaba receivers and a used and abused 6EX... Oh, Please don’t send ANY radios to Canada until all of our US orders have been filled first! Thanks, Phil Green
Buy the A9 with the 7 channel, send in your coupon for discount, get more 7 ch. Rx's, and back order the 9 ch. Rx's you want. That way you get to be using the system and playing with all the neat stuff it does.

RE: Help RCEXEL ignition
"manly man" as in, * I * have to use a pretty thick pad to keep from cutting my palm to ribbons to install. When properly installed, I have found that the base of the cap separates along the split about 3/32" on each side. It looks like it is going to just "split" and fall off, but they don't. I also have a Zinger wood prop that finally found a true useful purpose; I use it as a lever under the straight part of the metal cap, leveraged against the muffler or cylinder head to pry off the cap. Hard to find that useful purpose for one of those.

No problem to solve I will be changing the plug to a CM6 is this a resistor plug? Nope - the wire you see is the end of the resistor that is in the cap. Can I insert a small spring into the top of the spark plug boot if it's missing and would that resolve if there is a missing spring? Not needed thanks in advance You're welcome, hope it helps. RE: New Hitec Aurora 9-Channel 2.4Ghz Radio System
Alex - ain't none of my business, and I'm not connected to Hitec or your decision - but I think it would be really short-sighted to eliminate the Aurora from your decision making because of a safety feature that all the other brands ALSO use. If it is really that important, then maybe your battery SHOULD have an extra lead attached, and you then only have to open the battery door and hook up your charger. The features of this radio for me really outshine such a minor inconvenience. But then again, I'm using a 2S 2500ma LiPo, and I remove it to charge it anyway. I only have to charge about every 36 hours of transmitter use. That's a LONG time of "power up" time, so it's no grief for me.

No, but it doesn't seem to make any difference to the output to the sim, either way.

RE: Aurora 9 Mixes, Setups, Tips, Undocumented Features
Using the Aurora with the Aerofly ProDeluxe Flight Sim - after much head scratching, I realized that the "native" Aurora with the 2.4 G module installed isn't "recognized" by the AFP USB Interface. Fix was quite simple; unplug the module. Sim came up immediately, and after creating a profile in the Sim and calibrating it, works just fine. Apparently "something" in the output of the trainer jack honks up the AFP interface. The Aurora also does *not* require to be setup in Trainer mode. Works slicker 'n snot.

Something else to throw in the mix....Menz and Mezjlik props aren't true diameter....the 27" Menz for example is about 26.4"... does that matter? Probably....if being compared against a genuine 27". (Anyone who has ever knocked the very tip/point off a prop knows this is so; there's a LOT happening in that last 1/4".

RE: Menz 22/8 rpm discrepancies?
ORIGINAL: JoeAirPort I need to try laminated. I've seen this same thing in solid beech props. I think my difference was 400 RPM between two props that were same brand and size. Some wood flexes more than others. The lower RPM one is probably the better puller of the two.
Don't overlook that besides "density" of the wood is the "grain" of the wood....some non-laminated with tight grain seem more rigid to me, but the laminated props are RIGID, period. I agree - the lower rpm of the two is really probably the higher pitch, or more rigid, resisting un-twisting when loaded. Prop un-twisting (losing pitch) shows up in pulling differences in verticals opposed to pulling horizontal. I could sure be wrong about that , but the vertical differences were the things that made me convert to Laminated.

RE: No more neoprene in my tanks!
Klunks....love 'em or hate 'em, ya need 'em. I am a "highly committed" Madison RC Components user....I use their inline gas filter inside the plane on the fill line, and then their "ceramic filter clunk" on the line to the engine. Again, not cheap, but the ceramic filter doesn't degrade, can be cleaned, and will not put stuff in the line. Inline filter - $4.95. Ceramic Clunk - $7.95 Viton tubing - $3.61 per foot Pure fuel supply to the gas engine carb - PRICELESS !!!!!!!!

RE: No more neoprene in my tanks!
ORIGINAL: JoeAirPort If both of these fuel lines we're talking about are that great, isn't it amazing that were just discovering this now? At least I am. I'm sure the older wiser dudes knew for years about the Viton. It is very expensive stuff. But if you use $1 worth of Viton in each airplane for the clunks it doesn't seem that expensive does it?
Joe - lots of guys have known about Viton for years. BUT. 98% of the posts relating to fuel line selection either begin with "what's the cheapest", or include "what's everyone running". If most people run a cheap tubing and it's "okay" (meaning they haven't used it long enough to discover it's shortcomings) then the answer will be....probably in this order.....Tygon, Yellow Tygon, Neoprene, Hayes Neoprene, or "clear gas line".....because all of those are really quite inexpensive compared to the stuff that really does the job for the long haul with the least problems. There are some things that I think just work better, and cost a little more, too. Like propellers, for example....

RE: Fuel Line?
I think I was one of those "old posters" about using the Viton....it's not a secret...it works perfectly, stays soft and pliable, and is absolutely gas/oil proof. It's perfect for smoke systems, too, because of the temp. resistance. The only two drawbacks (and they are not a problem for many) is the stuff is expensive, and it's not transparent. I prefer total reliability and long life, so neither of those are obstacles to me. Use the Viton....you won't regret it, and many of us have used it for years.

Tom - And ALL the Aerobatic pilots said "AMEN !!!!!!!" Knife Edge mixing is SO fundamental. SO if it isn't dedicated....will the "normal" p-mixes in the A9 appropriately mix master (rudder) to ALL channels that have been labeled "Aileron" or "Elevator".... that would be important to note.

Tom, very good report, lots of good details in operational stuff of interest. Thanks for doing that. One question - on the elevators - could you tell if there is any lag, or do they move in tandem as if clocked at the same time? I think this is something that is supposed to be happening... The four aileron mode is really great news. Sounds like the software is very intelligent in setting up things "normal" based on what you call things... that will be a real help. On the throttle idle up/cut business.....is the throttle trim fast enough to just use it without going through the idle up/down hoopla??

Very well written note, T O M. I hope things are an "easy fix" and that everything moves on as best it can for everyone. Unfortunately, some (me, namely) have pretty limited opportunities to get out and enjoy the game. So we tend to fall into that bucket of "wanting it NOW", simply because tomorrow's activities, and our ability to participate in them, are never a sure thing. Maybe I should have declined to have one of the 112's and provide feedback. That will take post-game quarterbacking, and I'm not inclined to do that, either. It is what it is.

RE: Aerovate NEW Twin-YD/A 112
I was able to get some measurements on my YD 112 yesterday, and after comparing them to my other 100cc engine, we've decided something is amiss with mine. Don't know what it is, found the timing off a bit, corrected that, and it still isn't up to snuff. I've communicated these results to Henry and Steve. While that is figured out, I'm converting the Extra back to a different engine so I can get some successful fall flights as the days are shorter and fewer that are usable. I didn't bolt on the Menz. My measurements of static pull and peak rpm convinced me this one isn't up to the design goals, so I'm going to let Henry and Steve figure out what's up.

Rodney - you'll have clearance issues with 1/4" bolts at the engine mounting lugs/crankcase. Thiings are really close quarters there; I used 5mm socket heads with split and flat washers, and had to put "flats" on the washers so they would properly seat under the screw head and the mounting lug... Very close quarters....I'll see if I have a pic showing that. Found a pic...not a good angle, but shows pretty much what I'm describing. Also thought I'd add the carb mod pic with arms...
