RE: Flyzone Sky Fly
ORIGINAL: Flow_FX Has anyone ever replaced the entire body of a Sky Fly plane? IÂ crashed mine pretty bad, caught a bad gust of wind and it dove straight into the ground, ouch. The nose of the plane is bad and the cross members for the rubber bands dug into the plastic so replacing the body of the plane was needed. So the question is how to fish the wires from the old one into the new one without too much trouble. Getting the electronics out is easy enough, but its the fish lines and the antenna that concerns me the most. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.
You might look at the cost of getting a new fus and body, I have seen them available in (I think) Hobby Town USA stores. But, the cost is quite high as I remember. IMHO, I would just put the extra money needed and get the latest SF. It is so much better than the old first versions. I did learn to fly rc with the orig SF and do still have a soft spot in my heart for it. Bob

RE: Let's talk UFO's
Great video, I just got one of those key chain cams and will get some hat cam views and on board videos soon. Will post if they come out OK. It's the monsoon season here in Mesa, AZ so the temp is over 100 and lots of wind, so the flyin days are not so good for now. Hope it will calm down soon. I will try playing with the COG and hope to learn how to catch the UFO to save those props. I also have a SlowStick, Estarter, wing, and a 3D bip that I have set up as a standard flyer. All are fun and except the wing, very easy to fly. Having so much fun with the UFO the other planes are not getting much flight time. Bob, flying 3 mistakes high.

RE: Let's talk UFO's
Is the Nutball a kit or build it yourself. I like the landing gear. I have already went thru 3 props just on soft ground landings. I set my UFO up with a hobby King SlowStick combo, 2410-9 with 25A BEC and use a 10x4.7 SF prop. The foam is Home Depot blue foam approx 22 in diam. with Spektrum electronics. Had all the parts from a crashed wing and spent about $10 on the foam and control wire. Like I said it is fun to fly and will do everything a 3D will do, just a lot funnier looking. RE: Slow stick Forum!!
Sounds like a great setup, sorry to hear your friend crashed it. SS's are very forgiving and will repair with some CA and good packing tape. I fly 2 SS's with the HC 2409-21T with 25 esc and 10.47 prop with the 20c 2200 lipo. I can get a solid 15 min's of flight time and with some thumb management up to 20 minutes . I also have a spare wing that I cut the ends off then taper cut it to look somewhat like a P52 wing. This wing is a challenge to fly but is fast and can fly in higher winds than the stock wing. Hope you get your SS back in the air soon and have a blast with it as I do.

Gofer, I have my SS set to full throws, you can always just be light with your thumbs till you get use to what this bird can do. Your settings will really make it a slooooooooow stick on manuvers. Wait for a calmer day and you will really have a ball flying her. Make it more manuverable and you will have more fun. Bob

RE: Slow stick Forum!!
Gofer, I just started back about 4 years ago. I too flew U-control about 45 years ago with the Comet profile kits and the .049 motors. I am now 67 years old and am in my second child hood. My favorite was the flying tiger. Now I fly the SS and the Estarter. Both are good fun flying planes. The Estarter is a little more difficult to build but I took my time and built a very nice flyer. I have had a SkyFly RTF, and several Air Hog flyers but went to Spectrum for the ease of flying on the field. I buy most of my electronics and some other items from Hobby City, a China Co., and from Heads up RC, here in the US. Both are low prices and so far I have had very good luck with both. Shipping from China is high but from Heads up is only $2.00 no matter what you get. Check them out on the web. Just Google there names or look at the ads on this forum site. Have fun and welcome back to flying models. Bob

RE: Slow stick Forum!!
Gofer, FYI, my first SS was a slope glider setup and it needed all the electronics. I had a Mini Ultra Stick PNP that I crashed 3 times because I was too newbe to fly an aleron plane. The MUS had E-flight electronics so I used the 450 BL motor, ESC and servos. Bought a Spectrum 5e with reciever and put it all on the new SS. This is the best trainer and it is the plane that I fly the most. I think you just use the parts you have and have a ball. Be sure to put strapping tape on the underside of the wing so you don't rip the wings off the fus and check this forum for other mods that make this the best and toughest bird and you won't be dissapointed. Tim, just cut the mount off, it will make the fus just a little shorter but it will still fly great with just a small amount of adjustment to the batt, servos, and other elect gear. Bob, flying 3 mistakes high.

RE: Slow stick Forum!!
zrat, with the 2100 bats I can get 30 mins with half doing manuvers and half throttle managment. I have 2 2100 20c 3 cells and one 2100 15c 2 cell. I get 20 to 25 mins on the 2 cell using throttle management. Yesterday I took the cut wing SS out in the morning in a dead still field and flew it 3 times at 10 min sessions. That was with one 3 cell batt. Did loops touch and goes, and even a sloppy roll. Your right, that is a motor mount on that outrunner. It's a simple half inch strip of alum shaped to fit the motor and fit the SS fus. It works really good, I was suprised myself when I got that, it's so simple. I use a 3 degree down and to the right on all outrunners and never had an out of control plane since I've been doing that. I am building an E-Starter now and it comes stock with the 3 deg down and to the right. Hope to fly it by next weekend. Hope this helps.

RE: Slow stick Forum!!
Hi Guys On both of my SS.s I just put a snug fitting dowel in the fus and put strapping tape on the underside of the wings. I have a stock wing and a cut wing and have never ever folded the wings. I have BL motors and use 2100 3c 11.what ever HC batts. They both fly with athority and I do high speed loops and go inverted, outside loops and the occasional roll. Quite by accident but I tell the guys at the field that "I planned that move." Hay, take the credit when you can. The only damage I have had from almost 2 years flying the SS is broken props from nose landings and my 65 pound dog sitting on the tail feathers. Easy fix with strapping tape and some CA. OH, and I also put the front landing gear up front just behind the motor, this really saves props.

RE: Slow stick Forum!!
Thanks Zrat, looks like an easy mod. I have a cut wing and a stock wing. I'm still trying to decide which one to do the ailerons on. I will be getting an order from Hobby City in about a week with a motor combo and 4 servos, 2 of which will be used for the lucky SS wing that will be used in this mod. I am also bulding an E-Starter at this time and will be looking forward to using both the SS and ES as my aileron trainer planes. I will really be interested to hear more on how your aileron SS flys. Thanks Bob

Zrat How about giving us some details on your aileron setup. Let's see some pics. How did you set up the servos and did you use a Y harnes? How long? I have 2 SS's and want to learn ailerons. Is it best to do on stock wing, or cut wing? What about the diheadrial? Bob, flying 3 mistakes high.

OK, I'll try this again, got dropped when I tryed to post. I flew the short wing SS again today and had the 3 degree down and to the right this time. Just one adjustment in the air and it was flying like a bird. I again could loop, roll, and do something called a hammer head. That's what the guys at the field called it. I'll take credit for it.......... It is a dream to fly. I'll try again to post some pics again of the SWSS. Bob, flying 3 mistakes high.

RE: Slow stick Forum!!
Thanks for the info on the mount. Well, today I took the short wing SS out. It was a slight bit windy and the currents up above were going 2 different ways. Anyway, the SS cut through the wind quite nicely and it really did float like a SS should. I wasn't able to put the 3 degrees down and to the right on this mount because I didn't have long enough screws to add the washers to do it. I had to do alot of trimming but it still flew great. It is much more manuverable and turns on a dime. I actually did some rolls using the upper winds to my advantage and was able to fly inverted with much success. It should really be great when I can get the 3 degree factor worked into the plane. A fellow at the flying field came up to me and said that he thought this SS had alerons and was suprized it didn't. That's it for now. Bob, flying 3 mistakes high.

RE: Slow stick Forum!!
Gunkel, can you give me some info on the motor mount on your yellow SS? It looks simple and strong. Is it ? Are you able to bend it to the three degree down and to the right that helps the SS fly better? I have had an aluminum mount that looks somewhat like yours but it was too soft and bent very easy. It broke about the second time it bent. OH, and how did that clipped wing SS fly? I just cut one of my red SS wings like yours and will try to fly in the morning. Bob, flying 3 mistakes high.

RE: Slow stick Forum!!
Tam, I tossed the plastic insert and used the small tube bend as the diheed, it is much flatter than with the insert. It really flys great and I can loop and even do a roll every once in a while. With the China hobby motor BESC and prop it will actually fly in higher winds than my other SS with the pronounced diheed. So what I'm saying is if you want to take it out and make it flatter go ahead, it will fly just fine. maybe better!!!!!! Bob, flying 3 mistakes high.

RE: Slow stick Forum!!
Hello fellow airman, I just got the DX5e and it's a great radio. It is only a one at a time memory xmitter but for the price at $100.00 including the receiver and having the luxury of 2.4GHz DSM2 it's a really good deal. No more being concerned about whos on what channel. I have 2 Slow sticks with brushless motors and matching speed controlls that are from different manufactures. One stick has the AR500 5-channel full range sport receiver and the other has the AR600 full range receiver. This radio works with both. BUT, I do have to do the BIND thing when I change planes. It takes about 1 min to do this and I'm in the air again. Just thought this might help. Bob, Flying 3 mistakes high.

RE: Slow stick Forum!!
HI ALL, and Hawkin2000. Not sure about how to set up a scratch built but for my second SS I just got a new Spectrum DX5e radio and the matching receiver. I ordered the motor combo TowerPro BM2410-9T / 18A BEC/ 1047 Prop Combo from HobbyKing.com . This setup worked like a charm and the Spectrum combo matched up without a hitch. I am using a 2100/ 11.1 Lipo 20c batt and am getting over 25 min's of flight time. I shut down at 25, because I just don't want to deplete the batt past the 3 V setting. I think it would go for 40 mins but I'm too chicken to push it. The servos are Hi-tech nicros that are from my crashed MUS. This SS screams and will do loops all day and I even have got a few rolls out of it, not sure how I did it but the guys on the field was amazed when it happened so I said "planned that manuver." Ya Right. Hope this helps you Hawkin2000, Bob, flying 3 mistakes high.
