Hi Turk 1, The YAK looks like a good performer. Do you have any engine performance data. What prop are you using and rpm's. How much does the YAK weigh ready to fly and was the verticle unlimted? Thanks in advance, Bob

Here is a larger assortment of headers and mufflers. The flex style may be useful for some applications. These folks ship fast. Bob http://milehighrc.com/muffler.html

MTK, Thank you for this wonderful thread. Your setup info with the problems encountered/solutions for both the plane and the OS motor has provided a pattern beginner with a nice guide for a high level pattern performance plane. Don't go away, "we" need more of this stuff. Bob

RE: NEW DLE 20cc Gasser! (Data & Links 1st Post)
Cer & Nef, Use shrink tubing. It works great! Give it a try. Another way, put shrink tubing on a screwdriver. Pick a screwdriver with a slightly fatter blade, Not wider, and it will fit the needle heads better. Cut the tubing so that it ends up slightly longer and past the end of the blade. There are pictures buried someway in this trhread. Bob

Old Bob & Fixer, Been running mine using a canister/header from BPhobbies and it is pretty quiet & it is in a Arresti. Pics are buried back in this thread. It does OK. I'm planning on trying Sportsman at the nearest next meet. Also, has anyone done any testing on this engine using E85? Do you think there would be any increase in power? Bob

RE: NEW DLE 20cc Gasser! (Data & Links 1st Post)
Mic, You're right. It makes the screws easier to locate. Also, it is much safer when attempting adjustments w/o the cowl on. It really helps anchor the screwdriver blade. The header may or may not provide any performance boost, but I needed something to quiet this little noise maker down w/o and performance deterioration. I want to attempt basic pattern and I feel that the 11 lbs. airplane with this engine should give me a decent flight in an economical package. Bob

UND, Those are pieces of a plastic straw that were carefully pushed on the screw heads. Shrink tubing works just as well just stretch it a bit before carefully slipping it on. Bob

RE: NEW DLE 20cc Gasser! (Data & Links 1st Post)
Had some problems with my header and muffler on my Arrestti. Had a header and pipe that were made of some sort of cast metal (not aluminum) and it cracked where it was slipped into the header. There was no way to weld or solder repair this. Ended up going with a stainless steel flex type made for the RCGF engines. Had to grind the header to fit the DLE's port. The RCGF's exhaust port is smaller. This is a cobbled up fit but is not bad. Here are some pictures of the installation.

VAmod: Here is the CH info. mailto:adrianc4u@msn.com adrianc4u@msn.com , ADRIAN CIULEI. He is located on the east coast in MD. He is extremly easy to deal with. The one in the photo weighs about 3/4 of once less than the Rcexl and can be had with any type of sparkplug lead and, most importantant will handle 7.4 volts. I'm averaging ~175mah per 10+ minute flight. More with 3d. Bob

RE: New .90 gas engine (15cc)
Lifer, What oil were you using? Broke two on mine. First one looked like a casting flaw. The crankcase had little shards of aluminum in it. Second time it looked similar. Sent it to Jody, he said insufficient lubrication. Oil ratio was correct!! The crankpin had a small blueish spot on it. Changed oils and went to Stihl. Bob

Using this engine with a Tech-Aero (output to 5.1v) on my Arrestti, usage averages ~175mah per 10min flight + or - depending on the type of flight. Have a Hobbico LiFe 1600mah. This battery is not very heavy. Bob

RE: NEW DLE 20cc Gasser! (Data & Links 1st Post)
ahicks, It's a KMP Arrestti III, this is a DLE20 using an APC 17x6 with a header and a cannister muffler from Mile High. It fit with no body modifications. I was shooting for ~101/2 lbs but ended up a smidge over 11 lbs. The engine only has about 20 minutes of run time and it certainly pulls hard on the ground and really hauls in the air. Looks like vertical is unlimited ( I was afraid to hold full tilt for more than 10 seconds with the engine on such little time). It originally started quite easily once the gas got to the carb. The only problem is with the idle. It will idle nicely at a low idle but seems to jump from being slightly too fast to the low. I would like to hit somewhere inbetween. Seems like I read about this earlier in this thread. The muffler is supprisingly quiet and the header was easily modified. Will post a picture and some prop data shortly. I just don't want to stress the engine too much. My intention is to try beginner class this fall when the weather get a bit towards fall. This plane is about the smooth and most stable plane that I ever flown. Bob

RE: NEW DLE30!
G, I agree. My thought is maybe to separate the HV circuit from the control side. The necessary noise isolation can be put in the "spark" box and the rest in a very small circuit board. These pieces would be smaller, lighter and easier to mount. I have seen this coment here and in other threads. In analagous building problem, while assembling a pattern plane i made the mistake of mounting the rudder servo in the tail. What a mistake!!! Same with a smaller plane with a gasser. Put extra weight in the nose and you have to compensate elsewhere. Bob
