RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
ORIGINAL: Moggy The reason I asked is that it opens up a huge selection of paint schemes for the YA Spit. Most of the RAAF had MK VIII's in Burma etc so there exists a wide array of airplanes and history to model. If the tail is larger I doubt anyone will notice unless it is a scale event requiring documentation. For us guys who just want to get it close I think it will work. What do you guys think?
I think you will have to change the whole nose section to accommodate the Merlin variant but apart from that every thing else would be easy for you mate. Good luck and keep us posted, Brad
ORIGINAL: Chad Veich
ORIGINAL: Moggy Here's a question for my Spitfire Brothers: Is the MK VIII airframe the same as the MK XIV?
The Mk.VIII is Merlin powered and the Mk.XIV is Griffon powered so they are entirely different from the firewall forward. Beyond that the XIV has a much larger vertical fin and rudder and I'm pretty certain the underwing radiators are substantially larger as well.
All correct as far as I can tell Chad.[;)][8D] Brad
ORIGINAL: Moggy Here's a question for my Spitfire Brothers: Is the MK VIII airframe the same as the MK XIV?
Moggy, the first Mk XIV was actually made from a MK VII fuselage and probably a few more as well so yes VERY similar. I think the production models were just beefed up in a couple of areas internally but externally the same. What, may I ask are you up to?????[:)] Cheers, Brad

Hey Nudge, great tip there about the cowl screws. I have always hated the servo screw thing but all I have ever done is paint the heads the correct colour for the surface they were screwing into. (most of the time[:)]) With the Spitfire though I did tiny blind nuts and machine screws. So much nicer. I do totally agree with Merlin Man as well,,, do check your CG before committing to the servo mounting on the fire wall. Check how much weight others have had to use as well. I did this and knowing I was going to do the cockpit and pilot put them as far forward as possible. Here is the thread I just add into. I start at about page 64 or so. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_4038613/mpage_64/key_/tm.htm All up weight was 14.2 pounds with everything. I was even told I had a freak model to get this weight[:)][:)]. Every thing forward mate. Brad

RE: Graphite 2E from Vladimir's Models
Hi longsoar, I really love flying my Graphite and have just re-powered it with some Lipo batteries. The first outing with them turned out bad as the battery I had down the field dropped a cell so it was quite a short flight. I have about 50 flights on mine with no incidence. I'll get some specs for you. Cheers, Brad Hmmm, just re-read your specs and you have the 2m. Sorry.

I would like a simple fix but not one that means changing connectors
This one you just add in line mate, no changing of connectors required. Cheers, Brad

Hi Nudge, great work as usual man. If I can suggest one thing that would be to get those elevator and rudder servos as far forward as possible. Even on the fire wall. I know you will be able to find them a place up there some where. You'll save so much weight and you'll need to with the cockpit and pilot you are adding. I did this with my '109' and was rewarded with a sweet flying model requiring very little dead lead. Cheers mate I am subscribed, hey how is that Spitfire?????? Brad

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
ORIGINAL: F4u5 12 foot Spit retiring for the year.... Well, we had a state trooper stop out at the field today. He went to the end of the runway in his squad car and pointed the radar gun at the Spit. I got a run at him twice. He clocked the Spit at 94 and 98 MPH...that's pretty good. Using the Bolly 30X15 prop at 5K rpm on the ground. Luckily, no speeding ticket was issued . I will be putting the Spitfire away for the year. I ended up with 16 flights on it for the year. Muffler keeps coming loose, so I need to find a way to prevent that. Otherwise a great season (short) with the Spitfire. Jeff
Jeff well done with the flights on your Spitty. As far as the muffler goes have you tried re-torquing bolts when the system is warm? Also don't go over 60% yeald of bolt strength. Good luck, Brad

OK, just a quick update to keep things ticking along here. I received my (rather large) motor and speed controller. I am still r e a l l y angry that I had to pay $70 postage for this to arrive to me but I will get over it. I will not buy off Hobby Lobby again because of this unless it is small stuff with reasonable postage. Next is to get into the plans and order my balsa. I will soon buy batteries also so I can do some testing. I'll keep you posted. Cheers, Brad
ORIGINAL: drob Hi Guys. I'm still here following the thread although I still have not got around to finishing Tiger Cat #3. On the subject of the U/C I described the trouble I had way back in my first contribution to the thread, Page 18. As I said then I had the same trouble with my ASM Invader. The Tiger Cats's U/C is just about identical. I fixed it by dropping in Robart struts. From what I understand we had best not hold our breath waiting for a re-launch of the model.[:o]
Hi drob good to hear from you. Yes the idea of the re-launch is a far off idea indeed. I'll have to check back and see what Robarts you have. Any hints??[:D] Cheers, Brad

Yes mate I'm hearing you about the retracts. I think they shoud bring this model back into production and then Robart and Sierra can make some wonderful scale retracts for us all. The surface I fly off is not too bad but if the grass is a bit long you can just see all the drag on the wheels and UC. Cheers, Brad
