RE: Brent Good Custom Airframes 106
Paul Great to see you on the thread. Adam Ranck (our unlimited pilot) just left my house. I had him come over to look over the 150cc Yak drawings. He is really excited about showing off what these planes can do. I have the big yak a little over half drawn. He just got back from the South East Regional IMAC contest in Florida. He ended up placing 2nd in unlimited freestyle. When do you anticipate being able to start shipping? I am also working on making the new cowl mold and canopy plug. Once I get the new 100cc in my hands I will start doing a build thread and instruction manual.

RE: Brent Good Custom Airframes 106
Thanks, I have started on a 56" yak profile with an extra or edge to follow. I scaled up the 100cc drawings and doing the resizing of the tabs and slots is turning into a reail pain in the a$$. So I have started drawing up a new fuse. I am moving through it pretty fast. I can use the scaled up fuse to get the placement for all the peices and then just add the new tabs and slots. Jerry I can't wait to fly the plane this weekend.

RE: 60 % yak 54
Robbie Found you! Thanks for sending over the pictures of the plane. It looks great. I have subscribed to this thread so I can watch the progres. I tried to send you a email but it kept coming back as blocked. Don't know what is going on there. Things have been going good with my new designs. I am in negotiations with a kit cutter to sell kits of my planes. He has also asked me to design a line of profiles. I am currently working on scaling up the 100cc to 150cc. I am getting ready to start building the 100cc plane with some small design changes. Here are some pictures of the prototype 100cc yak at joe nall and a video of one of the planes being flown a couple of weeks back. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtUG6YsNgDo

Check out my build threads for my 50cc and 100cc yaks. Just search Brent Good Custom Airframes. I am just about done working out a deal with a manufacturer to start marketing my kits. We will be offering to start with the 50cc yak and the 100cc yak. I am currently working on finishing up the design on the 150cc yak. Future planes include the extra 260. RE: Brent Good Custom Airframes 106
Jerry brought the plane out to Charlotte yesterday and was kind enough to let Adam Ranck play with it. Adam made one flight to get the feel of the plane. We made some small throw changes. Here is the first clip of his second flight. Adam hasn't flown for about 2 months. It didn't take him long to get comfortable with the plane. I will be posting more clips and the full video once we finish getting it edited down to a managable size. Here is the first clip of Adam flying Jerry's Yak. As we finish more of the flight I will post it. We should have the full video later today. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOiqH7o820Y

RE: Brent Good Custom Airframes 106
Jerry Thanks for putting the video up. That DL looks like it is an animal. The plane just excelerates on the uplines. It looks like it rolls very crisp and stops when it is suppose to. It also looks like there is plenty of rudder servo as well. I can't wait to see the plane in person this weekend. Maybe we can get somemore video of the plane flying this weekend. I should have a unlimited pilot up there that can demo it. If we have your permission. Nice flying.

Jerry There id enough room for a standard canaster in the tunnel. I designed the tunnel with the 3w canisters in mind. I have been working on the pocket hinge line for the plane. I think I have it all figured it out. I have been animating the parts to make sure they work right. And so far every thing looks good. Here is a image of the hinge line.

That is funny. The plane is very easy to knife edge. Do you have enough rudder servo with the 2 HD 9150's. I didn't do any thing low with my plane and still lost it. Some times things just happen. I can't wait to see you fly the plane on the 19th in Charlotte.

RE: Brent Good Custom Airframes 106
Are you flying it with the cowl on now? Where are the batteries? As far as the manuel goes I would not break it in on the ground like it says. I would do it in the air and just not do much 3D until it gets some time on it. With the baffling in the cowl that engine will cool better running in the air. Glad to hear that every thing is going good. We should be able to help your guys out with a 50cc or something bigger if they want one.

RE: Brent Good Custom Airframes 106
I have an update on kits. I have been in contact with a kit manufacture and he said he would like to market my designs. I can't go into too much detail at this time because we are just getting started talking about copyrights and royalties. I am just about done with the changes to the design. I have corrected some of the small alignment and clearance issues. I have also extended the tunnel to accept tuned pipes and streched the fuse 2". I have also done a little more lightning work. I decided to not go with the pocket hinges. I am only used to working with 2D cad. It is just a real headache to try to figure out the pocket hinges. It also looked like it would end up adding a little weight. So I decided to not go that route. I have also made the mold for the canopy's. I just need to make the plug and then I will be able to vacume form the canopy's. I should be ready to offer kits for this winters building season. I don't have a price yet but that will come once we get things all worked out. I will be doing a complete build thread on the plane as well as making detaild construction instructions for the kit. Keep checking in to see how things are progressing. If anyone is interested in a kit let me know so we can get an idea of how may to start thinking about. I will also be starting work on the 150cc yak as well. I will probably build the plane and have someone else put their equipment in it and do the testing. I will be looking for an unlimited IMAC pilot in my area to do this.

RE: Brent Good Custom Airframes 106
Great to hear that you got it down in 1 piece. It sound like that 111 is a power house. Just wait, it should only get stronger. I would have been afraid to fly the plane with out the cowl. It sounds like the plane is about right for 3D and a little tail heavy for IMAC. If you can fly it hands off inverted that is a little tail heavy. The plane will probably stall a little better once you have the cowl on and have the cg just a little farther forward. How do you like the knife edge flight? Do you have any pictures to share? Where did you end up putting the batteries? Once you have the cowl on you can probably move them back a little. I am glad to hear that you are happy with the plane. Congrats on a sucessfull maiden flight.

Hello everyone! I just wanted to pass along that TJ want's to sell the yak he won. He doesn't have room for a plane that size. We would like to get the plane sold and out of the shop where it is being stored as soon as possible. If anyone would like to make an offer shoot me a pm and I will pass along TJ's contact info. Who ever buys it is responsible for arranging to pick it up or having it shipped. The plane is currently at a freinds shop in Rock Hill, SC. Just let me know.

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone that purchased tickets for yak that we are giving away to raise money for bathrooms at our club. The drawing will be held tomorrow on August 22nd. The plane turned out great and someone is going to win a very nice custom plane. Here are some pictures. I am currently doing some small changes to the design. I am enlarging the tunnel and stretching the fuse a few inches. I hope to be able to offer some kits for this winters building season. Thanks again to everone that helped with this project and a big thanks to all the sponsors.

RE: Rollin' my own 50CC Yak 54
Not yet. I will be doing one though. I am currently making some small changes to the 100cc yak and Probably this winter I will start scaling it up to 150cc size. I have 4 guys that want one already and they all said they each would be happy to take the prototype. I will be building one of the new 100cc yaks in a couple of months. I am very bummed that the plane went in at a contest when the transmitter shut off and turned back on when I was on approach to land. The fuse was loose in the fuse block and caused an interuption of power.

RE: What Spray Paint Matches Ultracote Flame Red Covering?
Due to inverinmental reasons ultracote no longer mixes paint to match the covering. I went through ab out $60 worth of different spray cans to try and match the ultacote true red with no luck. I ended up taking a peice of the covering to a automotive paint store. They used their machine to mix paint that was almost a perfect match. I got a quart acrilic enamel mixed and if you ask them they will also add the reducer so you don't have to purchase a gallon. Most of the places can mix as small as a pint. The paint can be shot with or without hardner. It ended up costing me $16. Well worth it! The one thing I would recommend is that you cover a peice of balsa when you take it in to have the color match. The machine they use is made to work on a smooth surface. It makes it a little harder to match the color if it is just a loose peice of covering. Hope this helps.

RE: Rollin' my own 50CC Yak 54
I am not sure yet. I am using a new guy to do the laser work and he is cutting some repair parts for my 50cc and another guys that had a mishap. My plane uses all sheeted foam parts. You can either get the foam cores and do the sheeting yourself or I have a guy that can sheet the parts. Sheeted foam parts are $300 for the wings, stab and rudder. They are vacumme bag sheeted and are very nice parts. The canopy you can get from tower hobbies. It is the canopy for the great planes 25% yak. I have the mold to make the cowl and the cowl cost is $45. I don't know what freight would cost to ship everything to OH. So that would have to be figured later. I imagine that the laser cut parts which include the fuse. hatch and turtle deck will probably run around $125-$175. I won't know until he cuts some parts. Shoot me a pm and I will give you my contact info and numbers so we can talk if you like.

RE: Rollin' my own 50CC Yak 54
Pete I currently don't have any of the 50cc yaks cut but I can arrange to have a kit cut for you. I am just about ready to make available the 100cc version. The 50cc is an animal, the 100cc is a fracken BEAST. I am currently doing a little fine tuning on the big one. I am thinking about making the motor box removable and moveable for rough cg tuning. I just started working with a new laser cutter in my area. He has the ability to cut full 4'x8' sheets. The 50cc plane is pretty expensive compared to what can be had in an arf. I can say this though, I have yet to see an arf that is as straight as a plane that is built by someone who knows what they are doing. I am talking with Bob at DL USA about offering my designs in kit form. I am currently working on a 50cc sport 3D design for him exclusivly. I am hoping to have it ready to test this winter. If you want to talk about getting on of the planes just let me know.

RE: Brent Good Custom Airframes 106" Yak 54
Hello everyone! It has been quite a while since I posted about the new Yak. I have it up and flying. The thing is a monster. It did come in a little heavier than I was hoping though. It came in at just over 29 pounds. Once I got thinking about it though it made sense. This is a big plane! It looks like it is between a 100cc and 150cc plane when you set them side by side. With the 2075sq" of wing it flies feather light. I did the maiden flight the night before a IMAC contest. I got kind of lucky with the set up. It flew just about perfect right from the start. CG was spot on to just slightly nose heavy. I had a pretty good idea of where I thought it should balance. Myself and another guy put our fingers under the tips and thought it was pretty close, so I just flew it. 2 clicks of elevator and 1 click of aileron was all it needed. I had a few guys fly it and give me their thoughts. One of the unlimited pilots could not beleive that it rolled perfectly axial right and left on uplines with no differential! Knife edge mixing is 2% opposite rudder. I haven't mixed the elevator yet. It only takes a breath of down. I am estimating it will need 1%-2% down elevator mix. I mixed in a 2% down elevator on low throttle to correct the small tendency to pull out on downlines. With the 106 it is a rocket. Most of the flying is done at 1/4 throttle. I reserved full throttle for long uplines only. On a down line with the throttle cut the plane slows down great. It will actually do uplines at the same speed as the down lines. Uplines were dead on straight with no rudder trim needed. The plane performed inside and outside manuvers perfectly straight as well. Did my first flights with just 1 7955 ht servo on the rudder. That just wasn't enough. I was waiting for the new 403oz servo to come out. I have since decided to add a second 7955 servo just so that I have more than enough power. The rudder on this plane looks more like a 40%er. It measures 22" tall and 13" deep from the center of the hinge line. I installed the aileron servos and hooked them up with a y-harness. I was plesently supprised that I didn't have to use a matchbox or reprogram them. I think this is because with the servo laying flat it moves on the same plane as the hinge line. At full 3D diflection you can slip the pin out of the controll horn with no presure on the servo. I haven't done a lot of 3D with it yet. I don't want to take a chance on destroying the prototype before Joe Nall. What I and others have done with 3D with the plane has been a blast. The plane is rock solid and totally predictiable. Rolling manuvers, harriers, elevators, walls are all great. Slow flight charteristics are great. One guy at our field flew it slower than I had planned. He made a down wind turn that I thought for sure would stall the plane. It didn't even hint at dropping a wing. I asked him to do that kind of thing a little higher next time. He was about 20 feet off the ground and on low rates. I was a little concerned that he wouldn't have enough controll input to catch the plane if it did drop. I will have the plane at Joe Nall in a week and 1/2 for people to check out. I will also have it's twin (the one that we are raffling off) there as well. I am hoping to get some of the pros to fly it and get their input on the plane. I am extremely excited about heading down there. If anyone has questions about the plane or would perhaps like to fly it look me up! Here are some pictures.
