RE: Blatant censorship on this forum
This whole thread reminds me of when my wife complains about using Hotmail. When she does, I ask her how much she pays to use Hotmail. When she replies that it's free I tell her that's right and since ytou don't pay for the right to use Hotmail, you have no footing to complain about it. Same thing here, no one is charging anyone to post on RCUniverse. If you don't like the way they run the forum, simply find another one. There are many out there, some better than others. I, for the life of me, don't understand when people complain about a service that they pay nothing for.

RE: 2nd plane suggestions
Looks like I will stay with the Stik. I have a short kit for the Stik I have been wanting to start building. Still, I thought I'd see if it is still considered a great second plane after all these years and it looks like the answer is a resounding yes. Thanks again!

2nd plane suggestions
My son and I have been flying the E-Flite Apprentice, great plane to learn on, and are getting to the the point that it will soon be time to move up so to speak. We will be staying with electric and from what I have read, the Great Planes Escapade and any of the Stik variants are good choices. However, many, if not all, of the threads I have read recommending these planes are a little dated. Are these still good choices for a second plane? Is there another plane that would be a better choice? Thanks.

That is what I was hoping. It is a FASST transmitter so I'll be ordering an additional 4 channel FASST reeiver.

Receiver question
If I have a Futaba 7 channel transmiter, can I use the transmitter with a Futaba 4 channel receiver or does the receiver also need to be a 7 channel? The reason I ask is that I am building a plane that only requires 4 channels and I'd hate to use my extra 7 channel receiver if I don't have to.

RE: Stumped on first plane
I don't have to worry about grass stains or taller gear. Here is a link to the field my son is learning to fly at: http://www.milehirc.com/fieldmap.htm As for the rudder, I have no problems with movement or with it centering. I don't know whats with the nose gear. Another guy bought an Apprentice and brought it out to the field. He hadn't check the nose gear and when he tried to taxi out, all it did was make sharp left turns. He had to take the wing off and make adjustments at the field. I havbe no idea why he didn't check it out before hand.

Thanks for the suggestions. I also asked some of the guys at the airfield and they also mentioned the Stik series so I'll start looking at them.

RE: Can flying high speeds break apart your model?
Great example of flutter. I don't know the language but I think the pilot intentionally induces flutter to test some flight characteristic of the glider. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQI3AWpTWhM&feature=related

Next Plane?
My son is just learning to fly the Apprentice but I thought I'd start looking now, so I have plenty of time, for the proverbial next plane. I'd like to stay with electric if at all possible. When he practices on the flight sim he really leans towards acobatic planes like the Yak 54. So, what is a good transition plane that falls between a high wing trainer and a fully acrobatic plane?

RE: Stumped on first plane
Ended up buying the Apprentice and, after reading all the posts steering me away from the self-taught route, decided that the way to go was with an instructor. I also bit the bullet and joined Mile High RC. Then I made the drive out to their field this Sunday morning. It's a great field, and an outstanding group of guys, but WAY out in the boonies. Anyway, long story short, when the plane showed up my son immediatley wanted to know when he was going to fly. So I have taken a back seat to his learning first. Rick, the instructor who worked with my son, was incredible and they got in three flights, about 30 minutes flying time, before we had to leave. The Apprentice was rock solid and my son even got in some solo stick time with the instructor right there in case something went wrong. Now he can't wait to go again. The best thing about Sunday, other than the smile on my sons face, is that the Apprentice is still in one piece, not even a scratch on it. Building the Apprentice was a snap with the only issue involved centering up the nose gear as it wanted to turn left. A few turns on the clevis and it was good to go. Checked the CG with the battery in and it was spot on and the trim on the rudder, elevator, and ailerons were spot on out of the box.

First scratch build and have questions
I have built many kits and have really enjoyed them but I want to take a crack at a scratch build so to speak. I picked up some very detailed plans for a PT-19, I'll show my lack of scratch building knowledge here, and what is the best way to transfer the layouts, wing ribs for example, to balsa? Once the transfer is done, what is anyone using to cut the pieces out? Years and years ago I remember seeing a hobby size, it would fit on top of your build talbe, band saw but like I said, that was 20+ years ago. Thanks for helping a rookie out!

It is not a question of the cost it is a question of time. Right now, and for the foreseeable future, the only flying time I may have will be before work, about 6:00AM

RE: Stumped on first plane
Long term goal is to learn to fly, practicing on RealFlight 5.5, and at some point try to find a club and or mentor. Then progress through the ranks up to acrobatics. At this point though a club is not really an option due to work and family life. So, I will have to go it alone for the time being and due to available areas to fly, stay with electrics.

Stumped on first plane
I am really on the fence about which to chose for my first plane. From what I have read they are both good choices, each with it's own pluses and minuses. The two planes are the Hobby Zone Super Cub and the Park Zone Radian. Both are available as a BNF kit and a RTF kit.
