airbusdrvr, Hmmm, $149 not enough? I can change that!!! Just for you though [:)] Bob, Thanks for all the nice things you say about the DV, and all of my kits for that matter. Since you mentioned kit-bashing, I love what some guys are doing with the DV. The design is pretty basic, which seems to get the creative juices flowing in a lot of builders. On my website is a Builders Gallery with pics and info on customer-built Delta Vortexes (Vortices?). Be sure to check it out... http://www.btemodels.com/dvgallery/index.html

RE: Looking for Midwest Attacker Kit
I built ~~~errrr~~~ put together a couple of Attackers myself when I was a teenager. Even used that weird, green Styromate filler that Midwest sold for their foam airplanes. Good memories of my Attackers, my first real "hot rods", used K&B .40s. When crashed, that foam would explode into a million little chunks and spread out in spectacular fashion! I've been nostalgic for one too, but would probably be happier with the earlier all-wood version, the Strikemaster, also designed by Jim Newman. If fellyrel doesn't find one for you, you might try asking about the Attacker in the Golden Age, Vintage, and Antique forum. The Attacker actually qualifies for vintage R/C now.... Good luck!

Way to go, Grant, looks great! Tell us more about your retracts and struts and any modifications you needed to make to the airframe to make them fit. Pics would help too. What turbine have you got coming for it?

Yep, I've already emailed Col. Winter - really looking forward to the DVD. An earlier post made it sound like the Hobbypoxy ad only ran that one time. Seems unusual because most ads run several times.

RE: TOM BRETT'S DESIGNS-UPDATE
So I'm flipping through this old RCM from September '65. A cool T-tail model catches my eye in the NATs coverage. Then I get to the back cover and there's the same cool T-tail in a color ad for Hobbypoxy. Hmmm, Tom Brett, think I'll google that name and see if I can find out more about his model. And that's what led me to this thread - about a week ago! I've been slowly reading it, letting it unravel like a good novel. I knew it was something special when I saw an image of that Hobbypoxy ad in the very first post. Tom Brett is my type of guy - creative, analytical, and detail oriented. Same could be said for Duane! Your thoroughness is incredible. Thanks to both you and Helen Brett for documenting Tom's contributions to the hobby. Fantastic and valuable thread!

RE: Is this Forum Vintage Aircraft or Models?
BMatthews has it right. Vintage RC seems like an easy concept, but I've found that a lot of guys don't get it. You try to explain it's for MODELS, designed for RC, from before a certain cutoff date - right now it's 1976 or earlier. Doesn't matter if it's scale or sport. Berkeley or Sterling J-3 Cub, yes. Hangar 9 J-3 Cub ARF, no. I've also noticed a lot of guys immediately start thinking about SAM-type airplanes - free flight antiques converted to RC. More than welcome at our little Vintage RC event, but they're not vintage RC, technically.

Harry, my man, here is my best advice... Bolt that crooked noise maker to the top of your very-flyable delta. Rig up the fuel system as described in the instructions that I sent to you. Win the bet. Simple.

RE: Pulsejet Harry will fly again!
Hmmm, sounds like a control-line speed guy tried to get his tube to match the circumference of the flight path. Those guys will try anything [;)] Don't know if it's fixable. I remember my dad years ago tried pounding a close-fitting socket through a Dyna-Jet tube while heating it red hot with a torch. Not recommending it - might bust a seam. Then again, if it's just headed for the trash, might be worth the effort. Probably won't help the banana shape. Does the model have to fly straight, or does it just have to fly?

RE: Reaction ARF - PST/BTE All-Composite Sport Jet
For the record, I think Edgar's idea of an inverted chair is brilliant! I built the stand in the pic for my jets. Low-wing jets like the Reaction balance easier upside-down. Position the balancer so the fin won't touch the table. Plywood pads (foreground) are taped to the wing surface at the balance point to protect the wing from dents. The plane balances on the upper edge of the short dowels in the center of each upright. The little foam pads keep the jet from rocking too far.

Sorry Jan, maybe you didn't want me to mention it... I think it's an interesting story that shows great appreciation for the design, and a tough lesson learned. No need to be worried about the R54 if built properly and handled with care. Hope your new one provides a LOT of jet flying and adrenaline :-)
ORIGINAL: PaulD I find it interesting that there's that much wind but the generators weren't turning.... PaulD
My thought exactly! Hanapi told me the wind is almost always blowing like crazy there. For those who may not remember, about a year ago Hanapi lost his first R54 on its maiden flight after getting rudder flutter. Remains a mystery how that happened, but I'm sure honored and flattered that he liked the plane well enough to start over and build another one. Congrats my friend!

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit
Svenn, I just looked at the specs for the E-flite 60-120 retracts, and Tommy is right. They look to be about the same size as the Robart package that I normally sell for the R54. E-flite seems to have very carefully avoided saying how much airplane weight they will support. If you make the assumption that a typical sport model for .60 to 1.20 size engine weighs 8-18 pounds, that's the same as the Robart rating. The wire struts in the E-flite mains are a little thicker than the Robart, the nose strut wire is a little thinner. I can't officially recommend the E-flite retracts because I have never used them or tested them in the R54. Don't know of anybody who has. But they might be worth looking into.

Since you mentioned servo arms, not sure what to recommend as far as SWB. I used the metal arms that came with my Hitec digitals. All pushrods connect to the first or second hole from the end, which is a length of 3/4" or 5/8" from the axis
