RE: Panel Line Tape
Try an Art Supply store, or an office supply store in the Mechanical Drawing department. Not sure what they might have in stores near you, but I'd go on-line to see if Office Depot or Staples carries those sizes before runningout to the store.

RE: Ignorant question about cutting framing pieces....
Great question, not ignorant. Asking, is how you get answers, reading, gives you posible answers, doing it, gives you experience. The link from post #2 is a great start. Also check for other instructions for building balsa planes on this website, Google etc. While doing the reading start building. Your selection of planes to start with will get you going just fine. With Balsa and almost any wood, you can cut out mistakes and fix mistakes. We all have made construction errors and will make more in the future. The biggest mistake you can make it to expect that you will get everything right. Even the best of the best have to fix mistakes and make corrections. Cut using the angles on the plan and a little longer than the plan and sand to exact size and angles. Once you start building the model start by cutting the same as above but sand to fit the model. Straight edge metal ruller and Carpenter's 90 degree tool are great aids to keep angles on target. Some really detailed build threads that show lots of building detail are http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_3109744/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_10794600/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm Start or find a thread of the plane you are building, take lots of pictures and post it all and ask questions as you go.

Great job!!!!. This has been a real learning experience watching you build this plane. Pictures tell the story a lot better than words. Your English is good enough to communicate what you are explaining. I also like the clean weathering look. I would love to see this plane fly at Top Gun this year. Are you planning on bringing it here? Thanks for all of your effort.

RE: Advice on a new plane
If it is the smaller .25 size I think you wil be ok, but not as much power available a a 4S battery. I think the .40 or .60 would surely be underpowered. Which size is your plane? I have a "Horizon Hobbies" small Electric Stick about the same size and it flies great with the 3s 1800-2200 batteries. However I am no expert on electric motors, Esc's, batteries or whatever as my instructions recommended the 3-s and that is what I bought. Some comments from knowledgeable people would be great for me to hear. It seems that every time I look at another plane that I want it requires batteries that I don't already have. I feel your pain if you need to upgrade.

Those of us who only wish that we could do what you do, need to keep the dust flying. After the months of work since the Monster event when you started on the new Corsair through finals week, where you had to deal with finishing, test flying, and all the other issues that can happen and did happen at the event, "You deserve a break today" Maybe even a couple of days.....then get back to work! I have heard that it has to do with engine torque making turns in one direction easier than another. Sounds good to me. Mostly I think it is in the Mental Transmitter I crash and burn them in both directions equally well!

While we all know that Scale warbirds are never done, I can't imagine your doing anything more to that plane. It's a real work of art and engineering. For sure, you guys try hard! You have a great plane, a great team and a great pilot with Dino at the controls. Good luck comes to those who try. Best wishes at the event!

RE: question please about CA storage
I live just a few miles from you and have had the same issues with CA going hard. I always thought it might be our heat and humidity. After having numerous bottles go hard on me, I realized that I was storing the acelerator near the CA. It seemed like a good place to keep it before I realized that the acelerator was trouble.. Once I stopped doing that, 98% of my CA is still useable many weeks after letting it sit idle. On on the workbench, I try to keep the CA and accelerator at opposite ends of the bench. I put my CA in a drawer after a building session. I now keep my "Back-up" CA in baggies in the fridge. I currently have a couple of bottles in the fridge for about 9-months. They are still as watery as the day I bought them. However, once in a while the CA Gremlins still get me and it really fries my Petunias!

RE: CARF F4U-1 Corsair build thread
Watching what you do gives me a better appreciation of the work and effort that it takes to really do a quality job making a scale RC plane. I have been able to see finished, numerous planes, that have competed in Top Gun and other events. However, this thread makes it come to life. It's a step by step progression of what it takes to make one great plane. I can also take with me some tips and methodologies for doing my sport scale planes. Personally I do not have the skills, time or inclination to do what you do. However, I can much better appreciate what it takes to compete at the highest levels. I can remember years ago when some builders wouldn't be bothered or hide their methods, even though they may have had some help. It's not like you are giving up a "Magicians Secrets". You guys are showing people who enjoy our activity how to get better if they want to pursue a higher level of accomplishment. A great musician appreciates another great Magician performance. So do the people who just come out to watch. You are an artist/engineer showing others how to get better. You are also showing some of us how to have fun with the building process. "You got the right stuff!" I can't wait till top gun. It's a real art and engineering show.

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
Reply to thboth comments below. I tried a restictor in one line but the operation seemed less "positive" and at this stage I am opting for reliability over realism (gasp!). Great work Sam! The timing looks great! Now all you need to do is to get one of the legs to lag behind the other just like we see every time an F4U takes off. Do you have some flight video's? I'm sure there are variations of gear being staggered or simultaneous rising into the wing. The following scale movie shows them going up simultaneously. http://www.zenoswarbirdvideos.com/F4U.html I'm sure many have seen this video before, It gets me motivated to get back to building. Greaat Job Sam

RE: TF giant F4U engine
By the way, the guys on the other thread know way more than I, I'm slowly building a kit. Staying real close to the plans as included with the kit. Build for a week, then its sits for a month or two before I can get back to it. I read their comments and look at their pictures for tips etc. I get to go on line while I'm working (I spend lots of time on the phone on hold). If I could spend the same amount of time in my shop building, I'd have three of these done by now.

RE: TF giant F4U engine
THE g-62 IS EXTREMELY RELIABLE AND HEAVY. Most TF Giant corsairs require (3-5 pounds) weight in the nose anyway. (For what its worth:So do many warbirds at the same size) You may also want to check out the TF Giant Corsair website to see what others are doing and have. Join in there and you will be most welcome. All TF Corsair questions are welcome and there is more info about this plane than anywhere else!!!! http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=10930798 Tom

RE: Best price on Monocote???
I would join Tower Hobbies "Super Saver Club" for $9.99 http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=L62017&P=RE Once that is done, once a month they offer discount of about 15% off their posted prices on orders over $150 plus free shipping on the same amount. ( I may be off a little on the dollar amount) They are the distributor of Monokote and also offer discounts on larger orders in addition to the 15 % off. It works for me. Hope this helps Tom

Hello Jeff. looks good, I'll play with this a bit. ANY OTHER WAYS THAT WORK TO SET UP LIGHTS FOR NIGHT FLYING ARE WELCOME Hopefully get a lot of info with lots of details for lighting systems that work and don't cost an arm and a leg. Has anyone done the lights off a 6 volt receiver battery set up- with 12 volt LEDs???? PS please send any "paid for" hook-up kits as I'm sure some readers would have interest in those as well. Tom

Night Flyer Lights. Glow gas and electric?
How do you hook up LED strip LED Lights on airplanes. HELP! Talking about this with a bunch of guys has me really confused. Lots of complicated ideas and some interesting "Be careful you don't do this or that etc....." I have searched the net for hours and came up with lots of videos of night flyers, but very little usefull "How to hook-em-up" information. If you have successfully done this, your replies will be greatly appreciated. Also: I am not really interested in purchasing $150 light kits. I have some strip LED lights from Hobby King (12 volt) and am wondering what set-ups you guys may have found for hooking them up to you planes that work well! My questions are based on two types of airplanes...Electric with various voltage batteries and Gas/glow 4.8 or 6 volt batteries. Is using a really high MAH battery that is running the receiver and servos a really a bad idea? The lights themselves last for over a week without turning them off on the 4 AA battery pack that I have used in the past. On a glow or gas airplane with a 5-cell 6 volt NiCad is there a way to hook the lights to the flap and or gear switches without a lot of issues other than additional battery draw? I can make the simple connector to do that, but I really don’t want to lose control of the plane and hurt someone, nor do I want to “blow-up” a $150.00 2.4 receiver trying it out. On electric airplanes do I need to hook up to 3 cell pack receiver packs or will the lower voltage 2 and 1 cell packs still light the lights. I would like to operate the lights from the transmitter’s unused channels. If you have a plan that works well for you, I would really appreciate the details. Any pictures, drawings and plain English descriptions in as complete of detail as possible would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help as I know of at least a half a dozen flyers who are interested. I will post a link to this site for my club's next "Night Flyer event" and maybe more guys will join in the fun. My night flying experience: Tom Many years ago we would fly our planes at night using "Glow" sticks. While they worked quite well, they were/are expensive and a real pain to hook on to a plane. Every night we had to purchase new Glow sticks. Boy is that “Old School”! A few years ago I bought some LED Christmas Lights that ran off a 4-cell AA battery pack. The bulbs were big and the wires were very heavy/thick and really made the airfoil foul up. Lots of Clear tape over the wires and lights allowed it to lift, but not well. I recently stripped those lights off my trainer type night flyer and re-covered the plane. I’m getting ready to start with the LED’s. (I did not want the lights inside the wing.)
