RE: glider storage
What I do is monitor ebay and craigslist. When an 88-note keyboard case comes up cheap I grab it. A few very easy mods they make great glider cases for all but the largest gliders.

Maybe just purchase the replacement fuselage and fabricate the others or maybe spend a little more and purchase a much better model.

RE: GLIDERS? SAILPLANES?
I don't know what a sailplane is. Is it an aircraft with masts ans sails fixed to them? I used to fly full scale and we always refered to them as gliders. The license that the FAA issued to me says glider.

I believe this is from Hobby Shack named Ridge Runt. The Super Ridge Runt had foam coar wings. Interesting in that I had an idea to power it like the pic. Good luck!

RE: Cleveland Condor Short kits?
I don’t want to be disrespectful, but why not cut your own parts. You could save a horrible amount of money. In the day, print wood was the norm and die cutting was a luxury. You’d be surprised how easy it is to cut and sand your own parts and it doesn’t really take a lot of time.

RE: west coast soarng sites
Fudi, I think you might be in luck. Back in the 80s I was a member of the Yorba Linda Slope Soaring Association, I don’t know if they still exist, but I’m pretty sure you can still fly at Glider Point. When I was a member we could drive to the flying site, but now I think you have to walk the ~0.5 miles with a largish hill to get there. Hopefully some other members here can give you more up to date information. Driving Directions: 91 Freeway to Weir Canyon (Placentia/Yorba Linda) Wier Canyon North turns into Yorba Linda blvd. (2-3 miles) Take Fairmont Drive left to Rim Crest (about 2 miles) Left at Rim Crest up until a sharp left hand bend in the road. Park on the right side of the road. Entrance is dirt trail. Wooden sign behind gate points the way...left trail up the hill. Bring everything, as hike back down takes 15-20 minutes. No Facilities. Map: http://www.1hss.org/glider_point.htm

Used Futaba for years and then got turned on to Multiplex. I have a Profi 4000 and an Evo 12 Synth. There's no way I will go back to the Japanese radios.

RE: How many transmiters?
I fly mostly TD sailplanes and am now getting into large >4-m scale sailplanes. I have several Futaba computer radios and about a dozen receivers I don’t use anymore because I’ve purchased an MPX Profi 4000 and an MPX Royal Evo 12 synth in the last year. “In my opinion, MPX programming is far superior and flexible than Futaba. With the Profi I have two modules and two 12 channel receivers. With the Evo I have two 12 channel synth and two 9 channel synth receivers.

RE: Jasco Floater
As Tweety says, the Floater was designed during WWII using Spruce and Basswood since balsa was unavailable. It was designed for boys who wanted a big glider but weren't ready for the compound curves of the Thermic series of gliders. After the war in 1946, Ziac redesigned it for balsa, made it a polyhedral wing for packaging, and sold them. I've built several of these as a kid and loved them. They look like a big Trooper to me. Ray at Skybench sells short versions of the Floater as well as the Thermic series of gliders. Of coarse I a few waiting. The quality of these short kits is very good; all parts being machined, not laser cut. Also talking to Ray, he told me others were laminating 0.014 carbon on the sides of the spars with success. Don't try CA, it won't bond well. Pressed bonding with resin works best. I go through phases. When I'm in the nostalgic phase, Ziac's designs rates high with me. kloz, good luck with your Floater. I'm sure you'll like it.

RE: Midwest Products Lil't - whos got one?
Ah, the Lil'T. I also built one in the 70s. It was an old model back then and was on sale. As Kingbee did, I thought the wing was a bit weak. But the fuselage was built like a boat. It was real deep for the radios in use then. Funny thing is, it flew real well. Quick story about how strong the Lil'T fuselage was. I was at the park tossing it off a bluff about 50-ft. high. It was getting dark and on my last toss there was a man and a little child walking ~150 away down range. Well you know how one couldn't hit one of them if one tried. It looked like it would be close, but, you know about perception. The Lil'T shuddered a little and grooved in for a nice landing. I hit the little boy on the back of his head and he did a header face first. I ran down and apologized and asked if there was anything could do. The man didn't speak English, simply shrugged, and walked off. I thanked my lucky stars after that one.

Northeast Sailplanes sales a Pinacle Heavy Duty hi start for 4-m plus sailplanes. It cost a little more tha $100.00 and works fine. You need lots of space though. I launch my Simprop Solution XL (4-m) with no problems. I think I get a little more height than the club winches.

RE: Transall C-160
I've been monitoring this thread with great interest. Though I basically fly sailplanes and electric sailplanes, I purchased the Transall a few years ago from Giant Scale Planes with the intent of converting it to electric. This thread is most valuable. Of course it's still in the rafters along with so many other models. I have a few suggestions that might help you guys with some of your problems. Regarding ESC failures. Use brushed motors off of one ESC. Brushed motors and their ESC's or much simpler and reliable. For twin applications, I know this to be true. I think a pair of AF 05 FAI cobalt motors would do nicely in this plane. Regarding one motor out performance. Put ~5 degrees side thrust angle outward from the centerline. If one motor goes out, this will help with the trust angle. Also, when you realize a motor has gone out, cut power. You might try maneuvering by pulsing the motor. If you have enough height, glide it back. If you don't, depending on the landscape, just glide it in straight and level and go for a walk. That's better than an uncontrolled roll or a tip stall straight into the ground. If the landscape dictates you fly straight and level into a building or someone's plate glass window, oh well. Regarding retractable landing gear. Have you guys seen sailplane retracts. Hobby Club sells 1/8 retracts that I think might fit in the Transall wheel wells. These retract straight back. I was thinking of installing a wheel behind the main wheel and retracting piggyback. Here are a few pics.
