RE: COX TEXACO GLOW HEAD ON EBAY
Starting bid less than the retail price was, certain safeguards for both seller and buyer on ebay whereas perhaps not as strong on RCU It took me a year and a half to find this so yes it is VERY rare. This is for info only, someone may be on here desperate for one (like I was) and just not look at ebay this week. Whats not to like? Best John [:)]

160 vs 170 cdi much difference?
As above gents. My Capiche 140 avec DZ160 is a weapon which flatters even a very mediocre pilot like me. Particularly as I've gone a bit nuts lately with the carbon fibre to shed just over a pound in weight off the thing. But, as you all know too much is never enough....and I've got the chance to buy a not unreasonably priced 170cdi. Is there much difference between the 2 especially as the 170 is a couple hundred extra grams once cdi and battery are taken into account? Whaddya reckon Guys? [:D] Best John

RE: 160 down on power
Not quite sure about this but apparently confession is good for the soul........ I thought about the main problem I'd had with my 63's and 110's which was usually traced to the 'plumbing' and various leaks along the tubes... So I replaced all the tubing, gave it a good wipe down and look before the final BIG STRIP...I then noticed that the needle valve appeared to be rubbery (no not lovely in Japanese but flexible).... Long story short valve assembly had unscrewed itself from the carb and guess what? It didn't want to develop much power. The good news is Sunday was perfect weather here and My epic 160 is back to it's old self. [sm=spinnyeyes.gif]

RE: 160 down on power
Cheers for replys Gentlemen. Engine is previously owned so as for how lean, how many etc I couldn't say for certain. Other than it appeared very clean and in a little used airframe. Since I've had it it has been sympathetically run on the rich side, indeed the HSN was 1.5 turns out when I got it,I added a further 3 clicks which has a beautiful smoke trail. The broken spring wasn't immediately apparent. The inlet seemed a little softer than exhaust which is why I replaced it and the break became obvious only when the collets and retainer came off. Petec should I assume the ring and bearing are service parts on these and would this be where you would start? I will get a new valve as well but how or do you have to lap them in? Atvb John

160 down on power
As above guys. My loverly 'new' 160 had started to feel a little underwhelmed over the last few gallons so I did the obvious took the rocker cover off to adjust the tappets and found the inlet valve spring broken. I ordered a new one from Probuild fitted it, adjusted the tappets and took her flying again. She still feels a little lack lustre any ideas where to look next Gents?

RE: Recalcitrant 160
Cheers Dave Having run about 2 gallons through it and having to consider having the grin [:D] on my face surgically removed each time I fly it, I guess carrying spare lipo for the starter is a small price to pay. I still think it should be easier to start but the fact that my QQ Yak 69 mitt 110s hasn't seen the light of day since I got this tells all you need to know. Only problem is I keep thinking 'what I really need is a 170 cdi........' It never ends does it? Best John [8D]

RE: Recalcitrant 160
Fast reply Tim Cheers I know it's a very different animal from my usual 63's and 110's which once pressured up always start on the button, but I can't imagine this is right. It starts imediately once it's run initally, then purrrrrs for the rest of the day which just puzzles me. John

Recalcitrant 160
Hi Guys Instead of buying a 115, ie a motor I understand.... I went maaaaaaaD last weekend and bought a Capiche 140 with a DZ160 up front. It is a biatch to start. The guy I bought it from said 'spin it up with starter with W O T to get fuel pumped up'. I did this, attached glow, nothing...for a l..o......n...................g time. Finally I blew into the breather pipe tried again and she fired first time. She ran beautifully then I returned home after a few flights. Today I had another go at playing hookey from work and it just wouldn't go. I was blowing in breather, opening throttle, closing throttle, pulling pipes off here, there, everywhere to make sure there were no blockages and almost extinguished the 1800mah lipo in my Align Starter. Just as I was about to de rig and go home it popped, then started. Almost frustratingly it then ran perfectly through 5 flights before I went home. Any of you genuis' got any thoughts or ideas? Best John

RE: YS115
Cheers Guys Forget the whine I just thought I'd give you guys a laugh and let you know how comparatively lucky you are. [:D] Thanks Tande. It's the 110s and a great bit of kit. If there was a 'criticism' it would be it's complexity but now I know 'how', it runs like a top. When you say the 115 is bigger I take it you mean capacity not physical size? As you know too much is never enough so although I'm very happy with the 110 in my Yak, I thought perhaps if there was a big difference I'd make the leap. John

YS115
So, any of you guys splashed out yet? My trusty 110 is my favourite (if expensive to run mota) and in my qqyak 69 with 16X4w gives near ballistic performance. Bear in mind here in the UK we 'like to pay Tax' so your $395 cost is £395 here (ie $633) %30 glow is £26 ($41.60) a gallon and I got through about 30 bucks worth yesterday.... Anyway enough of my hard luck story, is it appreciably better? Cheers John

In the UK we have an expression....Dickhead. I think it translates.. I am one unfortunately... The answer to all this is,- Make sure you push the dots back into their retaining collets and guess what? Yep They work really well. [:D]

Dl 50 Dle55
Hi Guy's Just made the jump from glow and now have one each of the Above. Both start+run ok ish. The 50 seems slightly more powerful but judging by the plug slightly rich obviously I need to have a 'tinker'.. What do you genius' advise, are the needle settings on the DLusa site a good starting point (1.5 low end and 1.75 high end) for both the 50 and the 55 and which do you set first? Cheers John [:D]

RE: Futaba 6008hs high speed back to normal speed
Silent you're a genius. Last night was night number 4 that I'd sat scratching my head. I'd been getting confuzzed cos in the past I'd only used 7 channel 617's then when I went digital, bought a 6008 as well I had to switch from 7 channel to 10 channel mode and assumed I had do the same in reverse not factoring in that I wasn't using a 617.....doh! Many many thanks Best John [:D]

RE: Futaba 6008hs high speed back to normal speed
Thanks for that Silent. Unfortunately that's what I've been doing, without any luck. It indicates that it has returned to Normal (red light after switch on) but it won't then link. If I leave the RX switched on, then cycle the TX back to 10ch (fast mode) it links straight back even as I say having previously indicated that it was in normal mode. I'm starting to wonder if my router is some how disrupting it.[:D]

Futaba 6008hs high speed back to normal speed
Hi Guys Any of you know whether there is a special procedure for turning the above rx from High Speed mode back to Normal mode? I know it should be just resetting link button to red light then going thru the link procedure with tx set back to 7 channel mode (10cg 2.4) but it doesn't want to. The instruction manual doesn't even mention it. Cheers John

Precision Aerobatics 540 50cc
Hi Guys I'm stepping up from my ys110'd QQYak. I was going to get an 88in EF but at our field we have a 7KG limit and I'm not too keen on arguing whether or not it's lighter than 15lbs 6oz every time I want to fly so.... I'm taking a look at a Precision Aerobatics 540 edge (84in and easily under 7kg) at the weekend whadya reckon? Cheers John P.S. I've got a couple Katana MD's and they're great [:)]

RE: Fuel Dots?
ORIGINAL: Four Stroker I think the consensus here is that nobody has a problem with them popping out. Either your fuel tubing is crap or the dots are the wrong size for the tubing. I use Aerotrend blue tubing. I have had one half pop out with very old mushy stretched tubing. I think it was the last of the Prather tubing which was crap. I don't know why you characterize ''tacky'' tubing as good tubing.
By 'tacky' I meant virgin (think glass tumblers straight from the dishwasher) clean and unsullied by oil or grease and therefore when shoving metal things inside them they have perfect purchase/that's grip not cost. Not sure where to buy crap anything really, even if I did.........! Anyway In case anyone else suffers similar I've cured it buy using Ripmax 5.5mm fuel tube clips, cost a pound sorted. [8D]
