RE: Official DB-01 Durga Thread
It's been a week since you posted, but I just saw it now. I think the kit came with a 17T pinion to use with the stock 540 motor, so I'd probably start out somewhere around there for the Sport Tune. I don't think it's going to be able to pull a 21T without getting hot, but you could try working up to it.

RE: Official DB-01 Durga Thread
I think the sport tune should be fine, geared appropriately. You're obviously going to see a performance reduction, but your driveline parts should last longer[;)]. I sold my DB-01 to fund the purchase of a Losi 22 (would have gotten a TRF 201 but was out of stock everywhere), but the entire time I owned it I ran it on a MM 4600. I added the slipper clutch, and never had a single issue with any driveline parts in two seasons of racing with occasional bashing as well. The Losi ball diff OTOH has been a PITA...[8|]

Ran my (daughter's) LB some more, does much better in the lawn than the Grasshopper, to no one's surprise. I did not get around to swapping the 380 motor in yet, need to see if the pinion will work. It's press fit on the shaft and I need to see if the spur is the same size between the two kits...

Yeah what the heck, I'll give it a try when I get a chance. Of course, I have ulterior motives......our club's track is hosting a vintage race next month, and the 'hopper will need the 540 for that unless I can figure out what's going on with my Frog's transmission and run that instead[:D].

RE: Return of Lunchbox..
Just thinking here, has anyone put a 380 motor (as in, from a Grasshopper) on an LB to slow it down a bit? I know it will fit with the adapter, and it will probably lose the ability to wheelie. Just sort of wondering if it will last more than a couple runs, or will it overheat from pushing the heavier vehicle around on fixed gearing? Reason I ask is because my daughter's Lunchbox is too fast for her on the stock motor (she's not even 4 yet), and I have the stock 380 in my Grasshopper, which I could swap into her car. I know I could just turn down the throttle endpoints, but that's too easy.[;)]

RE: Question about HK
FWIW, I had the same thing happen as MTboy on my first order from them. It was VERY frustrating, took over two months to sort out, but they eventually made it right, and I even got a personal apology for the the mixup from Anthony Hand (the owner). I swore them off for a long time, but started using them again, and now I'll only order from the US warehouse. As far as the original question, you never know, could be two weeks, could be two months...

RE: losi 1/24 scale sct 4wd lipo batts
I can't find a link for which Losi battery you are referring to, but I think I know where part of the inflated price comes from. If it is configured the same as the 180mah and 300mah 2S batteries Losi sells for the 1/36 trucks, it has an integrated low voltage cutoff (LVC). If you are not used to running LiPo without a cutoff or not careful about watching runtime to avoid over draining the pack, the cutoff is worth the extra money. FWIW, I've been using LiPos since before any ESC came with a LVC, so I had to learn how to look for the voltage drop on my own to avoid killing packs. Based on my experience with lipos in general, and the two vendors listed, I would probably go with the 350mah TP pack; it's pretty close to the dimensions of a 1/2 AAA double stick pack. Just be careful not to over-discharge it. HobbyKing has been hit or miss for me, and the shipping cost often kills any real savings. OTOH, CheapBatteryPacks has been good to me over the past few years.

RE: Sly as a Tamiya FOX! Legend of Tamiya #51!
So, is it wrong that I cannibalized the Fox I was given?[X(] A while back, a friend gave me a box full of old stuff, including a complete original wild willy and two foxes, unfortunately there isn't enough intact parts to build a working front end between the two. When the side springs on my daughter's re-re LB gave out, I decided to do a third shock mod, and the front shock from the fox is just about the right length. Well, I've got two, and it's not doing any good sitting in a box. The spring's a little rusty, and the oil stains won't quite come out of the shock body, but I think it brings a little soul, or daresay, wabi-sabi, to the 'Box.

RE: 1/10 Off Road Resurgance???
Despite having owned r/c cars all the way back to 1987, the Slash spec class at my local class was what got me into actual racing. Despite what many people think, there is definite merit to running a scale-like, stock/spec class such as SC- it's fun, cheap, and brings in new blood at the track. But, I digress. I hung around the track for a few years before jumping into the fray and saw the rise and fall of a few classes over time. Monster truck, 4wd buggy, dominator, 1/8 scale buggy and truggy, etc. all came and went, but one class that was always strong, and still is: 2wd mod buggy. 2wd and 4wd Mod Short Course have taken a lot of entries out of stadium truck and 1/8 scale the past season or two, but the buggies keep showing up and I suspect they always will. I'm thinking of retiring my worn out DB01 from 4wd buggy duty for the upcoming season and picking up a 22 for a change of pace, since 2wd buggy is the one offroad class I haven't tried yet, despite having owned about a half dozen buggies over the years...

For me, it was the Grasshopper. My cousin had one, and I was super jealous. I know you're thinking "a grasshopper, really?[8|]", but hey when you're a kid, you don't know better.....the upshot was that Santa brought a Frog kit and all the trimmings for Christmas that year, so the pain of not getting a Grasshopper was quickly forgotten.

RE: The Official Traxxas Slash short-course race truck
ORIGINAL: Cutless009 So higher C rating = longer run times? Â I'm confused as to what good higher current is good for.
Given the same voltage, a higher 'C' rating, coupled with higher capacity, means the battery CAN put out more power, not that it always will. If you have a car setup that draws 100 amps and a 5000mah 20C battery, you are right at the limit(5ah x 20 = 100a), and may overload the batteries. If you had the same car setup to draw 100 amps with a 5000mah 40C battery, you now have the capability to handle 200 amps (5ah x 30 = 200a), so there is plenty of extra power. OTOH, if you had a 8000mah 15C battery, you now have a higher capacity but a lower 'C' rating(8ah x 15 = 120a) so even though the 'C' rating is lower, the total power output capability is higher than the first example. Bottom line: both "C" rating and maH rating, aka capacity have to be considered. Think of a bucket and a pipe to pour the contents of the bucket into, where maH is the bucket and "C" is the size of the pipe. A bigger bucket may hold more, but the size of the pipe will limit how much can flow through. This is one of those cases where algebra actually DOES get used in our lives.[:)]

RE: Tires/setup for Indoor carpet short course racing
AT my club's track, we only run stock brushed slashes with stock tires on our carpet track, but here's how we cope with traction rolling(yes, this is allowed under our rules): tape the front tires. One wrap of electrical tape around the outside edge of the front tires takes away just enough traction to keep the truck from rolling in every corner without pushing/plowing too badly. You have to experiment with how far inboard you place the tape for best results. FWIW, I run no spacers on the front, and one thick spacer in the back, with 40-50 weight oil. I'd rather have chassis slap than traction rolling......YMMV, since your tracks rules are different.

I don't know the critical temperature for the motor you're using, but I'd say if it got hot enough to actually melt the radio box touching it, it's a safe bet that it suffered at least partial de-magging. Make sure the gear mesh is good and no binding occurs in the drivetrain if you replace it. As always, check your gearing and motor temps. Good luck.
