RE: My battery charger is pooping out....which one do you prefer?
if your having problems with your packs not fully charging you might try charging them at a lower amp setting.
I have tried all sorts of different things to see if it is the batteries or the charger....one thing I have been doing is charging at lower current rates (1/2C) and the problem still exists even with newer batteries.

Do you have a separate charger for the NiMH or does the ION CUBE do those, too?

RE: My battery charger is pooping out....which one do you prefer?
Well the charger that I have that is crapping out on me is the TRITON.... I have had it for a couple of years, and honestly haven't used it much....Not sure why it is starting to fail. I can tell you that it will DISCHARGE a pack fully, but it will not fully CHARGE a pack. May have to check into this Miniron Where did you guys get the Miniron Mobil Plus????

Looks like it is time to get a new charger. I have all types of batteries, NiMH, NiCd and Lithium.....What do you guys have and what do you like or dislike about it? Do you prefer one charger to do it all, or do you have a couple of chargers to do different battery types? thanks fellas

SSC wings.... where can I get them
I am thinking about putting together a combat plane or two or three..... I live in west central Indiana. Where can I get the foam wing cores? I am assuming that someone here in Indiana is making some.

RE: It's here!
To try to clear things up a bit....... I am not saying that the plane is not worth what they are going to be asking for it, just that all of the work was already done on this one. They simply just had to upload all of their original programming, fire the laser up and have them built. It is not like they started from scratch on this one. For this reason, they could do us a favor and reduce the cost some. I know that this (at least the origianl one) is a great performing aircraft and that it is priced according to the market for this size of plane, but hey, why not cut us a better deal?

RE: It's here!
Just my opinion, but now I think Hangar 9 (Horizon) is just taking advantage of us..... Typically, price is determined by demand, overhead expenses, R&D, labor for writing a manual and some other miscellaneous items....... Well, they have already done the R&D and the manual on this one several years ago and paid for that with the first runs of this plane. Why not cut the modelling community a break and give us a great plane at a decent price. I don't mind if they make a little money on me, but if it isn't going to be an UPDATED version, then they are trying to rape us....... Again, just my opinion

I must say that with Bill Hemple's name on this thing, I would have thought it would have came with a two piece cowl....It does look like an awsome plane. I am sure he had to cut a couple of corners to make it a marketable product.....without compromise I am sure.

RE: Servo Recommendations for a 26% Extra?
food for thought Why just go with one that has the required amount of torque with the same weight as a stronger one. Do some research and get the strongest ones you can that weigh about the same. This will allow you to use them on a bigger plane when the time comes. With that said, I am a very weight minded person....well at least with my planes. I typically try to get the lightest servos that I can as long as I feel confident that they are strong enough So what help is any of this? Well, actually NONE until you determine what sort of flying you are going to be doing with this thing. If you are just a sunday flyer, you can lean toward the lower end of the torque range, but if you are a hard core 3Der, you want the best you can afford.

RE: Help With Wing Bolts
Couple of things to think about before installing STUDS in the root of a wing. #1 The studs have to run PARALLEL to the wing tube, otherwise you will have to have an elongated hole for the studs to pass through. #2 It doesn't take a lot to hold the wings up to the fuse side until you start doing some axial manuevers, then centrifugal forces demand more strength. BUT, and this is a big BUT, it does take quite a bit of strength to keep the wings from rotating on the wing tube..... On a large scale plane, I would never use NYLON BOLTS.... just too risky. Even when using wooden anti rotation pins, I have never used them on large scale planes. I have only used them to hold the wing on a trainer airplane and maybe other 40 to 60 size glow planes. I just wanted to also mention that in reallity, a #6 bolt is probably more than strong enough, a #8 is definitely plenty, but most feel comfortable with a #10. If you can do precision work, make the bolt fit very snug in the hole through the fuse. As far as the wooden backer in the wing root, I use a square hardwood ply, fit a blind nut in the back of it and take a tap and run it through the blind nut and the wooden backer. This way the wood is threaded also.

RE: Extra 300 Prototype #2
I would definitely agree that the broken L bracket will cause a complete failure. The screw through the stab tube would be located on the pivot point and would not be able to hold up against the torque created from the air blowing the stab up to a verticle position.
It is hard to improve upon anything Dennis has done with his kits.
....... I couldn't disagree more. While the design is good (airfoils, fuse shape, top hatch, etc.), they are OVER ENGINEERED as well. Carden kits are simply TOO BEEFY when built stock. All of the improvements that I make, or maybe better stated some of the pro builders, are GREAT improvements. We are, to some extent, redesigning what Dennis has done. Again, the basic design is good, but Dennis could (although I am sure he won't) implement them into his kits at his location.

RE: 50 or 100cc ?
Nitro, I have to say that with the years that I have put in this hobby, I have enjoyed every bit of it....Whether it was the little 1/2A size that I started with or the 40% that I have now. In fact, nothing felt as awesome as the first time I flew the 1/2A plane. I built it myself and taught myself how to fly with that plane. I can also tell you that I enjoyed the moment that I crashed it. What I am trying to say is that while different sizes of planes do fly differently, most often it is the NEW PLANE that gives you the good feelings. Size really just gives you more of a WOW factor. It wouldn't be too much different from being a dedicated .40 size J3 CUB pilot and then grabbing the sticks on a 180 mph VENDETTA versus flying 50cc tehn moving up to 35%. I have a little foamy, a trainer, a 1.60 size profile, a 1.20 size CAP, a .60 P-51, a 40% CAP and other planes..... With a list like that would you believe I still like to get the trainer out...... I definitely like BIGGER better, but you have to get what you can out of what you can get. Fly what YOU WANT TO FLY

OMP 80" EDGE PROFILE w/ OS 1.60
This has been my favorite little plane for the last 2 or 3 years. It has been my "take it out and beat the PI$$ out of it plane." Well I have never seen a video of MYSELF flying. I took the plane to a friends house this summer and he had a good friend of his there. This friend of mine owns and flies full scale civilian aircraft and I will be teaching him to fly RC. This particular day that I was there, we went for a ride in the twin AEROSTAR and the other guy got his CAM out and started filming. A little bit later on, I got out the EDGE profile just to show these guys what these planes can do. None of them (there was a small crowd of about 12 to 15) had even seen anything but round and round RC flying before. While I know that I am no where near the best RC pilot, I knew that I could show these guys a few tricks. Well the one guy with the camera shot some film of me flying.... I had forgotten about that day until just a couple of hours ago. I received a phone call from my friend and he told me that there was a little bit of the video on the internet. Like I said, I have never seen myself on video before, so I guess this got me a little excited. The guy that made this video obviously liked to see the plane in a................well, you'll see Lots of people always looking for a good prop for the OS 1.60 FX. Well, check out this little video and you will see how well the engine performs on 10 or 15% NITRO and with a PRO ZINGER or an APC 18x6. I have had equally good results with either prop and only running 10 to 15% juice..... Is this proof enough? The plane weighs in at 12 pounds http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4050002793833627627

RE: 30% Cap
The 30% CAP is an older design....albeit a good design, but with a small amount of effort you can cut some dead weight out of it and have an EXCELLENT 50cc class aerobat..... I have a few kits already here to build, but I have been wanting a 30% CAP for quite a while.....maybe next year. I have the 40% CARDEN CAP kit sitting here to be built (to replace the one that I fly)

I don't know...maybe I am pretty lucky when it comes to servoes...I have only had a couple of failures with the servoes themselves. I guess I feel comfortable enough with the fact that most servoes aren't going to fail, so I go right on in and solder a new servo extension right to the board inside the case of the servo..... I have always believed in making the least number of joints possible.......Maybe I am crazy
