Home for OS 70FS
I'm looking for a new home for my OS70FS. I just removed it from my Hangar 9 Cub, (long story short...I just can't seem to overcome the ground-loop problem, so I sold it). I just wasn't having fun with that plane. I'd like suggestions for something for my engine. I'd like it as large as possible, (getting older and I need to see 'em!). would another brand of Cub give me the same situation, maybe a Decathelon, Taylorcraft? Thanks all!

Glitch isolated, now what?
Hi all, From an earlier post, I had a glitch with a Futaba7C....doing a range check yielded all servos moving on their own. I tried 3 different receivers, two in the same model, one completely different plane. Same results. This leads me to believe its the TX. I tried unscrewing and reinstalling the TX antenna, no change. I'm wondering if this older system is worth the cost of repair or should I spend that money on more RX's for my 2.4? CB

RE: Glitch
It's in a Hangar 9 80" Cub. Motor is an OS FS70. No Y-harness. Rt and Lt ailerons are on separate channels, (I wanted to adjust the travels separately to get differential).

Glitch
Hi all, This was a first for me. I resurrected a Futaba 72 I haven't used in a couple of years. The batteries checked out good on my cycler. I did a range check and all seemed OK, but after takeoff, when the plane was out a bit, there was a pronounced "dip". There was no wind and nobody else on the freq, (club field). I landed and enlisted a buddy to listen closely to the servos, (engine off), collapsed the antenna and started walking. Sure enough, maybe 100' out the aile servos started to buzz. Further walking produced aile jitters and a couple of deflections. That would explain my "dip" during flight. Where do I start to ferret out the gremlin? Thanks!

RE: Sportster 60 power
ORIGINAL: JohnBuckner Using a 61 in a sixty sized airplane may not be politically correct but its a Darn good plan especially if you needed to ask on a forum what size engine to use[;)]
The reason I asked on a forum was I was disappointed with that engine's performance in a Bruce Tharpe Venture 60, (sixty size). I changed it out to a Tower 75 and there was much improvement. Sooo, I have this OS sitting around and I thought I'd see what others think. OK?

RE: Sportster 60 power
The 15cc gas engines are interesting, but I'm wondering if the weight, (29 oz), would be an issue? My OS 61 weighs 23.6 oz. They say the 15cc is for "60 size" planes. Hmmmm.

New battery question
I just got 2 new 1650mA, NIMH, RX batteries from NoBS Batteries. The literature that came with them says that I should do a formation slow charge and cycle before putting them into service. I have my old wall wart charger that came with my radios and an AccuCycle Elite. I assume I should use the AccuCycle. The thing I can't seem to grasp, (getting old), is how to get this charger to put out a lower current for the formation charge? I've read and re-read the instructions and it is a bit muddy to me. Can anyone help put me straight? Thanks all!

Hi all; I screwed up! I had a very low volt 4-cell, 1200ma Nicad RX pack I wanted to charge. I mistakenly put it on the TX side of my Accu-Cycle Elite, which is set for 8 cells @ 125 ma. I charged overnight. What will be the consequences? Thanks everybody.

storage
Hi all; I may be forced to clean out my "airplane room" very soon to get our house ready to sell. My room is a fourth bedroom on the first floor that I'll need to convert back to a bedroom for the sale. (The real estate person was adamant!). The only place for my stuff is our detached 2-car garage, obviously unheated and un-air conditioned. It's hot now and if the place remains on the market it'll be very cold in the winter. What will be the consequences fo putting my planes, radios, etc out there?

Spinner question
I have Magnum 91, 4 stroke that I want to put a Tru Turn, or the like, on. The shaft has two prop nuts, the outermost conical and jams the first nut that has a recess for the "cone" of the jam nut. This leaves virtually no thread to mount an adapter. What to do? Second, how do you figure out how long a a screw is needed? Thanks all!

When I pull the throttle all the way back to shut down, the motor still ticks over for a bit before finally coughing to a stop. The carb barrel is fully closed. Any ideas? Thanks!!

I have a new Magnum 91 4-stroke that the manual says requires 10% Nitro, 18% castor/syn blend fuel to properly break in. It says castor very important. The LHS's in my area really don't seem to carry fuel anymore. Where can I order this type of fuel online? Most seem to be synthetic. Thanks!

RE: throttle routing-4 stroke
ORIGINAL: w8ye If you have a metal throttle arm, you must use something plastic for a connector to the throttle arm to keep from producing RF noise. Or you could use a plastic control rod http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXK091&P=ML http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXFV42&P=SM OK, I understand the RF thing, but how does it get in to the system? The problem is I have very little room in front of the firewall. MinnFlyer's drawing will work, but there will be metal/metal contact with the bent push rod and the throttle arm. A ball link will have to come in from the rear and there's not enough room. The carb on this motor is smack-dab in the middle and I can't loop forward to connect. It has to come in from the side or rear. How about cutting the music wire push rod and inserting a nyrod somewhere in the middle? Is it the actual interface of the metal rod and the metal throttle arm the problem? I was assuming that the noise would transfer down the rod to the servo and get into the radio that way. It would seem that the plastic servo arm would isolate that if this was the case.

ORIGINAL: LesUyeda CB36. If you do as Minnflyer suggests, be sure to put a piece of insulation over the wire so that you do NOT have metal to metal contact. I used teflon tubing for my similar system. Les
Thanks all...I just don't quite understand the insulation suggestion. I thought that was only if you had a gas engine? Anyway, the throttle arm on the carb is metal

throttle routing-4 stroke
Hi all; I'm getting ready to swap out an OS61 for a Magnum 91 4-stroke in my Tiger 60. The carb is behind and in the middle of the Magnum. That will place it close to the firewall. Since the throttle arm is in the center of the engine and close to the engine's body, I'm looking for a way to rout the pushrod. The fuel tank is located in a compartment directly behind the firewall, so I have to come out near the fuse side. I've installed a Saito before by bending the pushrod back on itself to attach, but this one doesn't look like that will work. Suggestions? Thanks!

Magnum vs Thunder Tiger
Hi all; I'm thinking of replacing the OS 61FS that's the power in my CG Tiger 60 ARF. I originally had a Saito 82 in it but swaped it out for the 2 stroke because of the sloppy running characteristics of the Saito, (ran great, just hated the mess!). The performance of the plane with the OS 61 is somewhat less than great. Kind of doggy unless at full throttle. Besides, I like the sound of the 4 stroke. This brings me to my question: how's the quality of the Magnum and Thunder Tiger 4 strokes? I'm thinking of the 75 TT and 70 Magnum. I'd love to get the new OS 81, but just can't spend that amount of money, (almost double!). Will the power from either of these engines be enough, or am I going to end up with the same lackluster performance I have now with the OS 61? This ARF is a tad heavy and it seems that even though it's a "60" size airframe, it appreciates more power. Thanks!!

3000mA NIMH bat question
Hi all; I'm totally new to electrics, so please bear with me. I have a 2 meter Vista EP raedy to go. I bought a 3000mA Electrifly NIMH battery for power. I already had an Acucycle Elite charger, but I'm absolutely confused about quick charging. I "formed" the battery with a 12 hour slow charge. What can I do at the field to recharge quickly for multiple flights? How much current can I safely give to this battery? How long a charge time can I expect at the field? Should I have multiple batteries? Any amp settings you could advise would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

RE: one battery for all?
Thanks; Here's what the Tower specs say: Clear case speed controller Standard Tamiya connector for battery Universal servo connector for Rx ON and OFF switch for speed controller Red/Black bullet connectors for motor Handles most motors 400, 500, 600 Pre-Set Up, no adjustments needed nor is it recommended to try to change the settings on this speed control. Has BEC I assume the BEC is what you were refering to. Will this leave me enough power to fly around? The person at Hobbico said that when the motor "loses performance" it's time to bring it in. I'm just concerned that if I happen to hit a thermal on the last "up", I won't have enough juice to get it back.
