RE: Skymaster F-4 hot start.. safe or not what do u think
The pipe is fine, I checked that right off. It was just gas that rolled out the back. Thanks for the input guys. Dave

RE: Skymaster F-4 hot start.. safe or not what do u think
Jeff, The stab does not feel brittle at all, The reason you see the white glass under it is because I rubbed off off the bubbles so I could get a good look. I checked it to see if it felt soft or brittle and could not tell a difference between what got hot and what did not. I think I am more pissed about the way it looks .. lol

Skymaster F-4 hot start.. safe or not what do u think
Hey everyone i would like to ask for some opinions on some what I think is minor damage done to my F-4 during a failed start. She got a little too much gas and flamed out the pipe for about 3 seconds but it was enough to scorch the underside leading edge of both stabs and a small amount on the fuse just behind the exhaust.. The pics below show the worst of it. As you can tell looking from the top you see nothing and it does not seem to have compromised the glass but i have not really ever burned a stab before. I am thinking it should still be good to fly but thought i would post just in case... Anyone else done this? thinking flight metal time. Thanks Dave

RE: SM F-4 Tips Tricks Do's and Don'ts
Hey guys, Thanks for the replies. They have some good info. Dave I may hit you up on the picture offer since I know you feel bad for me getting the pro kit and all. I would still like to hear from more of you. Maybe a few that have done the lighting and anyone running a single servo for the stab. I really dug into the kit over the weekend and I am very happy with it. The extra money for the grear and doors is money well spent. I am amazed at how heavy the wings are. I did learn a few things lol First the little purple headed pilots they send wit hthe cockpit kit fit much better in my small F-16 then in this plane so I am going blue box all the way, and it looks like they will be very little room if any under that cockpit. Also I am going to have to use something so get those carbon rods to slide smoother b/c once I got the wings on It took a lot to get them off. Here are a few pics I snaped today after I got back from so other Jet flying. Dave

NO 55 here but I own a 66 and I have built a few planes for others with them in them as well and seens Don's go over and over. In the last 3 years that I have been exposed to these they work flawless and kero start is the best!!

SM F-4 Tips Tricks Do's and Don'ts
Hey guys, Got my SM F4 Jolly prokit in late last week and I can't wait to get started on it. (waiting on my lights to show up from Details) I did a ton of reading in a bunch of posts and found a lot of useful info but I still had a few questions and thought with how popular this kit is a thread with your best Tips, Tricks, Do's and Don'ts for this airplane would not be a bad idea. What I learn from reading all the other posts, CG tat works best is 290 - 295. Elevator neutral is not neutral to the plane but slightly up. (there are a few pics) and a few guys have routed out to give a total of 60MM throw. Put your batteries in the nose b/c you will need the weight. Gear Doors - The little outer ones sucked but mine were pre done with the cool little wire and seem to work great. Things I would still like to hear, Flaps - I have seen what the instructions say and about 3 other numbers, what seems to work the best ? Turbine and tail pipe angle - Saw a few things about people changing this but not real info on if it needs to be done or if the stock works fine Elevator - Is anyone running a single 8711 or is everyone running two servos Lights - This will be my first scale light install so any tips on this would be welcome. AND ... Any other Tips, tricks, Do's and and Don't's Thanks Dave

RE: pros and cons of kerosene start...and more
We are running mostly all Behotec kero start and I prefer then to my propane start. We have well over 100 starts on several motors and so far not a single problem with an igniter and a 3800 Li MI ECU battery will give you 6 or 7 starts with no issues and they can be fast charged if you need more then that. It is great when all you have to do if put gas and air in your plane and flip the switch to go fly. My only con would be that kero start motors throw a little more flame during the ramp up process and so it is a good idea to tuck the tail of the turbine into the pipe to avoid getting anything else hot on start. Thanks guys .. Your replies have been a big help and made me feel much better about flying it on 36lbs. Sounds like it will still go fast and fly right on that .. maybe just not as crazy powerfull as Ron's (sweet video BTW... Great low passes)

Power needed for a Skymaster F4
Hey guys I am intrested in building one of the sky master F4's but after seeing that the few posted about here are flying on P200's I am concerned that the Merlin MkII I have to put in mine @ 36-38 pounds may be a little weak. The motor is very strong in my skymaster f-18 and will push her to 200 easy but I know the f-4 is a little bigger and not as clean. So I was wondering what you guys are flying in them and how heavy they are comming out. Any feed back will help. Thanks Dave
