RE: JETPOWER 2012 products WOW !
Arrived home a few hours back after a fantastic day at JP yesterday! Must thank my travelling companions Andy Aldridge and Ian Bailey for endless banter...made a long journey short! A few pics follow...far too much of interest for me to mention everything, but major thanks to Ralf of Tailormade for taking time out (about an hour!) to describe in detail how he finished, decaled and weathered one of Marijn Penninx's big F-16s. Ralle is a total master of his art and has made me an absolutely superb set of rub-ons for my FEJ A-7! Anyway, a few pics of static stuff follows (am waiting for the flying shots that Loz Hughes has taken!)... Cheers, Dick

RE: Aviation Design Big Mirage 2000
Al, I had to miss the Nats this year...pisser as I'd really looked fwd to it...but just to rub salt into my wounds, Big G called last night to say I'd missed probably the best model demo he'd ever seen...your Mirage! Now, I know he isn't joking coz he rarely gives credit and, what's more, he ain't a Mirage fan, so it must have been bloody good! I know when we spoke last year you felt something was missing with the model's handling characteristics - good to know you've got it where you want it...it truly is a magnificent model that you need to bring to the next CJ! RE: Wow Vulcan low passes from above perspective - VID
ORIGINAL: tevans55 I was fortunate to see the Vulcan fly at Armed Forces Day at Andrews Air Force Base in Washington DC. It was the early 80's and the bomber stopped to fly in the air show on its way to the Falkland Islands. The Vulcan actually did a climb on take off that ended in a wing over.
It still does those stunning climb-out's and wingovers (to the inverted, but always in positive G!)... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjpl70uW3hg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X98ZnZs-2ds Incidentally, the guy who flew the first of the Black Buck missions to the Falklands is still flying the Vulcan as Chief Pilot...really nice chap. RE: Ford S Max and Jets
Thanks Dave...sounds good...it's the 2l I'd consider. The flat load area appeals...I'd take the A-7 to the dealers to make sure it goes in first!!! Mind you, economy-wise I'd say the Mondeo 2l diesel takes some beating...did 300 miles home to Carlisle at an average consumption of 48 mpg indicated, at an average speed of...well, not too slow, put it that way! Juat abt to start the return journey. Cheers, Dick

RE: Frankie Mirandes Flying Provost T5 video
Thanks...good video of a great subject. Like it that you have 2 British classic jets there! I have a Jetwelt JP kit in storage awaiting my time...the fuselage is cavernous. Be interested to know a bit more about how Frankie made the cockpit as, with all that glass, a good reproduction in that area is an absolute must. Took the opportunity to watch the SKS clip of the JP at Top Gun and it's smooooooth! Incidentally. not that many British full size Mk5s used tip tanks operationally, but there's no doubt in my mind, they look better with them on! Thanks for sharing this. Cheers, Dick England

RE: IB...Trouser Activity detected in the South!
ORIGINAL: IB Hi Dick, looking superb, thats Viagra with a turbine, and can't wait to see this one fly, I can see I'll have to move back down to the south and rejoin Wroughton, I feel I'm missing out up here, by the way, we saved you some cake at Marham, but someone filched the last slice, no names no pack drill. Ian B
Hi Ian, Yes, we need you back!!! Re the cake, yes, I gathered my slice got 'lost'...still, we'll only have to share with Aldridge en route to JetPower Aldridge; yes, and probably (if you survive till 2020 and unless something happens when you share a room with Geoff at the Nats [:D] ) Florent...thought that might make the good parts twitch! Thanks Smchale, a real good point...putting waterslides on is tiresome, rub-ons might be better...I'll discuss with Ralf. BTW, looks like a stunning job you did on yours...very nice! John, yes, that was part the reason for not having it painted...I'm trying to dirty up my Mirage a bit, add more decals, etc to take away that Airfix Model look. It's coming on OK but would have been easier to do with a bare airframe. I've bought the pylon kit too (not here yet, still being made) and the drop tanks...bombs not available but easy enough to make a pattern and take some off so, hopefully, will look good when done. Cheers, Dick

IB...Trouser Activity detected in the South!
...Coz my new toy is here, and it's from the right era! Biiiiiig thanks to James from FEJ for arranging safe delivery of this gorgeous aeroplane...stores should be here soon too! FEJ do a good range of schemes for the A-7, including the gull grey and white one, but I just fancied finishing mine myself. Ralf at Tailor made is making me a decal and paint mask set for the specific aircraft selected (pic below) and given my current rate of building, I recon she should see light under her wheels pretty soon...maybe as early as 2020! I'll have to be a tad quicker than though that as Barry Atkinson wants a review of it for RCJI...hence not too many pics here yet! Also got to say thanks to The General for answering the load of questions I had before I placed the order...look fwd to seeing your new one soon Lewis! Cheers, Dick England

JMA Long Marston - 6th and 7th October, 2012
Further to the great success of the JMAs recent Long Marston Jet Weekend, and in response to the cancellation of the Westonzoyland meet, the JMA Ctte have hired Long Marston Airfield for another Jet Weekend, on 6-7th October. Same as last time, the event is open to pilots who are JMA members only and camping will be available from the Friday evening 'till the Sunday afternoon. Food will be available on site, as will toilets. As always, pilots intending to go should send their name to Rog Kilbey at: roger.kilbey@btinternet.com (no need for car details or anything like that, but we do need to know who's going to fly), as should those intending to camp. Plenty of good accommodation is available at a close-by pub, that also does good food - Jamie'll post details here shortly. Cheers, Dick

RE: JMA WESTONZOYLAND - CANCELLED
ORIGINAL: Dizz Does it have to be September Dick? For the last several years weather in October has been pretty good, certainly no more of a risk than in June. RE: JMA WESTONZOYLAND - CANCELLED
ORIGINAL: Geoff White If you look here - http://www.longmarstonairfield.com/Events.aspx you can see that virtually every sunday in Sept it is booked for something so it would have to be a sat only event.
Already been there in lengthy email convo with Jamie late last night mate...LM was my first thought as an alternative TBH and, given the success of the recent one we did there, even if it was a one-dayer and with a the relatively high cost of hire, it's worth JMA Cttee consideration...which will be sorted this weekend. Cheers, Dick PS...If it's a goer, we just need to make sure its on a date when Jetrebel isn't working! PPS...thanks to the Sedgemoor guys for their valiant attempt to keep WZ on the calendar..

RE: Mad Dogs and Englishman...
Jeez...that is truly scary! Bet those guys wouldn't have even thought of doing that had they seen the pics that were doing the flight safety rounds last year of the aftermath of the american flightline mech who strayed a tad too close to an idling engine - the poor chap literally got swept off his feet and blended. Close proximity to Jet engine intakes of all kinds and sizes is to be avoided (and there are a few modellers with finger tips missing to prove the point too!). Cheers, Dick England
