RE: Do you have ESM Electric Retracts?
It's been 4 months since I last talked with TBM about the ESM version 3 updates and at that time I was told the V3 would be there any day . Still waiting for V3 upgrades for 2 sets of Bearcat gear. I have not been able to fly for a few months because of back surgery but I would still like my gear issues resolved .

RE: 2 5s packs for 10s question...
If I am reading what you described correctly you would be connecting in series which will give you 10s using two 5s packs. Positive of first pack to the positive of ESC ,Negative of second pack to negative of ESC and remaining positive and negative jumpered together would be a series circuit and result in a 10s pack.

RE: Band saw blades
The 1/4 " blade would give a smoother cut than the 1/8 " in the same TPI ,but depending on the airfoil of the rib you may have issues with the 1/4 " in a tight radius. I prefer the 1/8" for the method of cutting I use . I cut to the outside of the Rib template lines and finish up on the belt sander by sanding down the line to get a good smooth finish. Sometimes you just have to find a method that works best for what you have to work with.

RE: Ziroli DC-3
Zenoah G38 engines are the standard for this plane. They are as reliable as it gets . The G38's can usually be found used at very reasonable prices and they are heavy . You will need the nose weight. If you go with a lighter and possibly more expensive engine you will just have to add more weight to the nose to get the plane ballanced. If G38's don't seem to be what you want my second choice would be DLE 30 and add the extra weight to the nose as needed.

RE: Ignition Module failure
There are many reasons possible for what you have described . A weak coil may give you enough spark to jump a dry plug exposed to atmospheree, but with the increase in resistence from a compressed fuel/air environment may require more current than the coil can provide . A torn silicon plug boot inside the cap is a more common senario. This is similar in result but different in cause, as current will flow to the path of least resistence . The spark may jump inside the cap rather than through the higher resistence spark plug in a compressed fuel /air environment. If your ignition uses a metal cap, the cap can be replaced for less than $20.00 . One caveat is that the failed or damaged cap (if this is the problem)may have stressed the ignition module and it may fail soon after the cap is replaced . You know the problem is the ignition , you've proven that. I would buy a new RCEXL ignition and put your worries behind you. Or if the engine is still under warranty contact the seller and see what they say.

I have flown many 25% and 30% aerobatic planes that had only one 1/4-20 bolt for each wing .Never had any issues. If the plans call for one bolt then one should be adequate .

RE: Champ RTF motor seems cockeyed
I am not familiar with that plane - but it is a normal practice to offset the engine thrust line to the right to improve the planes handling. Setting to the right counters the P-torque force on throttle up, and on uplines . There may also be some down thrust built in to reduce climb at higher speeds.

RE: G-38 question
Glad you got it going . The key shears from looseness but sometimes the keyway burrs a little when the key shears and make the flywheel seem like its tight . If it didnt require substantial pressure from a puller or a good hard wack from a mallett to pop the flywheel off - it was loose.

RE: Quarter Scale Cub
ORIGINAL: Truckracer
ORIGINAL: s3nfo 1/4 scale Cub is a 1/4 scale Cub, so any 1/4 scale cowl will do fine. Just get the nice, fiberglass one from BUSA.
Not quite so ..... different kit or plans designers have very different takes on what actually makes a 1/4 scale CUB. For example some have very different fuselage widths than others, etc. Yes, they should be the same but they are not. The SIG and Balsa USA CUBs are quite a bit different and the cowl from one doesn't even come close to fitting the other.
+1

RE: Stick Cutting Tech ?
The Fourmost cutting tools are great for balsa and thin spruce stuff . I usually lay out the stick to be cut on the plan and mark the angles with a straight edge and soft pencil . Make the cut and the final fit with the sanding block for a clean tight fit . On the thicker spruce stuff like 1/4x1/4 or larger I use a box mitre saw or band saw to get a straight cut with less effort. You don't need power tools but they sure do help speed up the process at times . If you are building a design with a lot of truss structure the Fourmost tools and Zona saws are well worth the investment.

RE: G-38 question
It is possible that if the flywheel was a little loose the key could have sheared . Remove the prop hub and see if the flywheel is loose , then remove the flywheel and inspect the key and keyway.

RE: Throttle servo buzzing for DLE20
9202 servos are known to buzz with even the lightest load on them so I wouldnt worry to much about the buzz . I would suggest inspecting the geometry of the golden rod setup . It my be that at WOT the throttle arm or the servo arm have a side load place on them from the location of the golden rod, does the golden rod have enough side to side movement to travel with the arc of the arm travel without binding ). If there is no apparent binding visible check the servo with an ammeter , if the current draw spikes at the end off travel at WOT or idle then reduce your ATV or end point adjustment untill the current draw drops off . If you get the ATV set to where the current draw is the same at any position between idle and WOT and the servo still buzzes then I would consider it a normal condition for the 9202 I have used the 9202 for many years and it is common for the servo to buzz while supporting the weight of a control surface or with any side load from linkages. Invest in an inline ammeter that plugs in between the servo and the receiver . It will be a great asset in setting up your planes to use less battery per flight and may possibly save an airplane from the dreaded brown out from an overloaded servo.

RE: BUYING USED GASOLINE ENGINES
Buying a used engine can be a crap shoot , even if you know what signs to look for . I would suggest that you have a trusted and knowlegeable buddy check it out for you . If you dont have access to that kind of person and are not sure if you can trust the seller I suggest that prior to the sale see if he is willing to refund your money if you are not satisfied with the engine . If he won't stand behind it walk away. Most common problems are 1) Bent crankshaft from prop strike or crash , check crankshaft runout and prop tracking. 2) damaged piston and/or cylinder. Scoring from debris ,overheating , not enough lube, incorrect tuning ,insuffiecient cooling. 3) carb issues 4) ignition issues Seek out someone local who can check for concerns in the above list . If you are going gas you will need someone to guide with setup and tuning gas engines . There is a lot of knowledge here on RCU but someone local that can put ther hands and eyes on it will be most benificial to you.

RE: Windex method real or not
I use just plain old Windex . It is mostly to get any air bubbles out when you squegee but does provide some adhesive property to monokote . It is not required to iron it out after, but in my opinion it does make it stick better . I do recommend to seal the edges with solvent either way.

RE: Windex method real or not
I have used the windex method for years with Monokote . I spray on the windex and apply the trim , squeegeed out the excess and allow to set for at least 48 hours . I then very slowly and gently go over the trim with a socked sealing iron on low to set the adhesive( only warm enough to seal but not shrink). I then go around the edges with trim solvent to be sure the edges are sealed

RE: 20CC: fuel flow, thrust?
I have a well broken in G20ei on my RV4 with a 16oz tank and after a 15min flight I still have over a half tank of fuel left . Most of the flight time is WOT. The thrust you get will depend on the brand and type of the prop as much as the size of the prop. So asking for thrust based only on the size is pretty much meaningless.

RE: Help wth CMP 50cc Zero PLEASE
Start with CG 5 1/2 to 6 " from leading edge at fuselage . Ail 1/2" up/down low rate , as much as you can get on high. El. 3/4 " up/down low rate , 1 1/4 high , Rud 3/4 " low , as much as you can get on high , Flaps as much as you can get or 45 deg full down , 15 to 20 deg for half down . I am using 40 expo on low EL and 70 on High , same on Ail. I have the Brison on mine and needed 2 1/2 # weight in the nose to balance with all batts in the engine box . I installed the servos in their rear mountings , you could reduce nose weight by moving the tail group servos forward. The plane has excellent flight properties , very stable , Using a 20x10 thre blade Biela prop it moves pretty good . Got more speed from a 2 blade 21x10 Menz Ultra , but t0o much prop ripping noise .

RE: What Airplanes are you Installing a Mintor22cc gas engine in?
I'm trying to stuff it in my 1/6 scale Holman Fi 156 Storch. It's a very tight fit ,but it will be nice to have the power without using glow fuel. I had fitted it with a Saito 125 but there is only room enough for a 10oz tank and thats not much flight time on a Saito 125. Still trying to work it out . I love the Mintor but may have to build a different plane for it.
