RE: Brodak Gladiator?
Wow that's a great looking plane but a bit pricey. You would need to buy the plane at $39.99 and then add a motor mount for $15.99. Other than that it looks like a great plane. Might try one one of these days. Jay

RE: Leadout Wires
Where are you in Michigan? We have a group that flies here in Flint. There's also a group that flies in Lansing as well as the Detroit area. What plane are you rebuilding? Sounds like either a combat style plane with a foam wing or a 1/2A. In any case you don't need to make it easier to replace the leadouts if you are using good leadouts in the first place. Solids are good but I use wire on all my planes. Hope to see you around this summer. Jay

RE: OS .35 FP reving up after a while.
What you have is the dreaded "FP Runaways". These engines are not timed for stunt. The best thing I can recommend to do is to pack it up and send it to Lew Woolard or Len Newman. Lew does great work and has a fast turn over time. Len does good work as well, but takes a bit longer. It should cost about $40 or so to have that FP 35 running like a pro. Jay

RE: cox control line planes
The older ones with the box intact are worth about $50 or so according to the ones I seen go on Ebay. As for flying ability of a plastic plane those Cox PT 19 were among the better fliers. I have had a few of them and we could get the best flights since the wing area was the biggest. We are not talking about loops and inverted flights here. Your basic go around circles until the fuel runs out is about all you can expect to achieve with these planes. Take it out and fly it unless you are not a control line guy. Sell it to the highest bidder on the Bay . Hope this helps. Jay

RE: Flite Streak landing gear.
A LA 40 will be way too much for a Flight Streak. Lots and lots of guys are flying them with a Fox 35, 10x5 prop. IMHO A LA 25 would be best suited for a Flight Streak. As for landing gears. You could bend a new one from 1/8 wire or you could use something like this. http://home.mindspring.com/~mikeypratt/cfgear.html Good luck in your effort and hope you are able to get in the air without mishaps. The Pinto can be found at RSM. http://www.rsmdistribution.com/index-2.htm It looks like a Baby Oriental. One of my favorite planes. I haven't built it yet. Too many projects in front of it. Jay

RE: Lil' Jumping Bean
Brodak now owns the rights to all of Goldberg's control line planes. He is supposed to rekit the Jumpin Bean, but I did not see it on his site. Here is the link to the plans. http://brodak.com/shop_search.php?productsearch=jumpin+bean I have a Jumpin Bean and it is a fun plane. Of course I like all 1/2A's in general. Jay

RE: OS engine designations
I am pretty sure that the FS you see listed means Four Stroke. I don't have any experience using a four stroke on a stunt planes, but I seen it done. Mostly with the bigger engines. They are a lot heavier and not as powerful for their size. Got to love those FP engines. I have 3 and they all run great. Too bad O.S. decided to make cheaper engines instead of keeping a better engine on the market. Jay

RE: UControl People
Hi Peter. There are a bunch of us in the Flint Michigan area that fly control line in general. Me, John Paris, Dan Miles, Jimmy Morway are a few who fly regularly. We fly at Broome Park in Flint. I like flying the 1/2A stuff but mostly fly the bigger planes. Drop me a line and we can try to hook up. Jay Williams

Here's a link about what the other guys are doing. http://www.clstunt.com/htdocs/dcforum/DCForumID9/136.html The only thing I did with mines was tap the piston with a resetting tool and shaved the elevator with an exacto knife to free it up. Flies pretty good on 35" .08 lines. Jay

RE: NOBLER
Hey Bob seems like you are a regular over here. Not to steal you away but have you checked out SSW? http://www.clstunt.com/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboard.cgi It's a Control line only board and you would get a whole lot more replies to your questions over there. As for the Nobler funny you should ask. I got one cheap on the SSW Swap site. Someone wanted $40 plus shipping. He used one of those shipping services and it turned a good deal bad. Real nice plane. Went together without any problems. You do need to change the lead outs and bell crank. They used an old style crank and it has the possibilities to fail. I also used a arrow shaft push rod for stiffness. I bolted a Double Star 40 on mines. Also used a round clunk tank from Sullivan. I am having problems getting it to run right now. Might use a reworked Fox 35 that I have. Hope this helps. Jay

RE: Anybody got a picture?
If I kept half of what I had when I was a kid I could retire in style! I had several of those planes when I was younger. Never did get them to fly very good as I didn't know what I was doing. Also I had most of the Cox's line up. I would say the best flying plane for me were those P-40 Warhawks. Also had one of those Snoopy Dog house that would barely stay on the end of the lines. Have you seen the prices for the Stuka planes on eBay? I had no less than 3 of them. Threw them all out when I moved out west. Doh! You are not alone in the regret department. I bet more than half the guys here would say the same thing you did. Sure is fun to try and recapture the olden days huh? One good thing that I did manage to save. Most of the Cox planes in that time came with a brass backplate on the engine. Not the plastic things of today. I still have about 8 of those. Jay

RE: SKYRAY/.049 NORVEL "START-UP"
Funny you should ask. I myself have 4 Norvels and never ran one of them. I would say to start with a 6X3. It might be a bit fast with the flat wing planes but should be fine with the build up or foam wing. Only one way to find out for sure huh? Bolt one on and see what happens. Get a set of .012 lines at 35' and have fun. I wonder where about in Ohio are you located. There are several clubs that I know about and some of the greatest guy you would ever want to meet. The Cleveland guys host a contest every year that I try to make. Also the Capital city guys have a contest that I want to make one of these days. Hope you can get into the air soon. Jay

RE: SKYRAY/.049 NORVEL "START-UP"
Looks like you are on your way for having tons of fun. I rounded off the tips on my Lil Hacker and I love the way it flies with a Black Widow on both of mines. Need to do some repairs from my last outing but I am sure they will be ready for next time. Build yours light and straight. Follow the break in instructions for the Norvel and you will have a strong engine. I use a Grish 6x3 on most of my engines. You can still order them on line. http://www.grishproducts.com/ Check this site out. http://www.aeromaniacs.com/Starting.html Jay

RE: NORVEL .049 HELP
Not sure who is still selling the 049 but I found a pretty good deal for the .061. http://www.shopatron.com/product/product_id=BRTNVLCLX6/123.0.265.0.0.0.0 As for the AME, Big Mig Start up, and the Big Mig CLX. From what I understand the AME is more of a Combat engine needing a tank with pressure feed. The Startup engine is supposed to be OK as a Sport flier and the CLX is more of a stunt engine. All 3 can be beam mounted without the tank. Jay

RE: BRODAK .049
While the Wizard is a great old airplane you would do much better with a set a Lil Hackers from Brodak. You get 2 planes for about $25 plus shipping. They hold up and fly better than a sheet wing plane. Go with the BW, but if you want the Killer Bee you can do a little better on the Bay. I seen one for BIN at $20. In any case have fun and fly. Too many guys sitting on their stuff when they should be out there flying. Jay

RE: LIL WIZARD
Funny you should mention the Lil Hacker. I was flying mines yesterday. The engine quit and the plane came in on me. Nothing too bad but I need to fix the motor mount. The second plane I didn't check for level and crashed it pretty hard. Didn't look at it too closely but I think it needs a new fuselage. Jay
