Ultracote question/technique
I am repairing a Pilot 40% plane, and truly amazed on how well the ultracote is applied. The side of the plane is covered in white and red and blue is applied over the white, not one bubble or blister. How is it done? Heat or do they use a chemical and squeegee it on. I would like to know how to do that. TMG

ANOTHER GLUE QUESTION
I am going to build another 5 gallon gas can. My can is about three years old and getting very dirty. I found a very good plastic can at tractor supply, much better than the Walt mart type. But I want to glue the radio shack project box on the plastic can. The only thing I can think off is 3M 5200, marine glue. JB weld is too brittle. Got any ideas. I cannot find 5200 in town. I was thinking about taking it up the car windshield place and have the installer use some of the heated poly whatever stuff they use around car windshields. Thanks TMG

Nice planees, love my 71' stick. I have had it for about 6 weeks and today the Hscker a50-12l seem to have come apart, something is loose in the inside. I am running 6s 5000 20x8 apc. got any good suggestion on a good motor to replace the hacker, want to use 6s. This V2 is differant from the other hacker I have had the main shaft seems to only have one bearing? thanks and have fun Terry

RE: New Sebart Wind 50E
FYI I went back yesterday afternoon, winds still 10+ kts, I flew two flights, set the timer for 8 minutes, on the first flight i did the sportsman sequence, twice, once at normal speed and the second a little faster to squeeze it in. on the next flight did the sequence twice at normal speec, no screwing around. After charging last night put 3200 mah and 3600 mah back in the 5000 Turnigy battiers. TMG WWW.CRAPTECH.NET

RE: New Sebart Wind 50E
[;)]First flight on the Wind S50, when out this morning, thought the wind would be down, but it was still 15-20kts, but flew anyway. Great little plane, more stable in the wind than I thought it would be. I was able to keep it at a very stable and control speed even on the down line. It is a little nose heavy with a 5000 mah battier. I think that if I were to do it again I would not use the pull-pull rudder, the weight of a little servo in that tail would be just about right. I think I need a little more down thrust in the motor, but I will wait until I fly it in a calm wind situation. I used the same setup as I had for my FocusII and it is about right. But I like this plane better. Unscrewing the hatch every time you want to change out the battier sucks, I am going to make a latch system. 16x10 apc prop, 5000mah battier, when I charge up I will let you know how much I had to put back in. I don’t have a watt meter but will hook up with someone and check that out tomorrow. Oh yes, it hovers well too. TMG

RE: New Sebart Wind 50E
I have tried everything with the ESC, two receivers and a completely different tx/rx system, hook a 40 amp system up just to see if would work and it does, so I put the Phoenix Ice in the mail this morning for repair. As for the build, I think it was a very nice, I put together a lot of Aeroworks planes and I would consider them some of the best, well design planes around. This plane is right up there with just a few minor issues, but no big deal, but I always change thing a little, I used Du-bro ball links and pushrods for the elevators and ailerons, I also used a Modified Du-bro tail wheel. I did not like the way the wheel pants went on so I had to use longer axle and screw the wheel pants directly to the landing gear. I did like the canopy being mounted to the hatch; I wish it way pre hinged. Two things I always make a mess are canopies and hinges. As an example, I am trying to be very careful to do a good job of hinging the stabs, did the first one, got a little CA run. Grab the de-bonder to clean it up. Did the next stab, no CA runs, looks great. So I am connecting the push rod and the elevator come out of the stab, I used de-bonder, not CA to glue the hinges. But do you all think that four Geo magnets will hold the canopy on? And I guess that the two wood push out on the firewall are to be removed? Cannot wait to fly it. TMG

RE: New Sebart Wind 50E
My wind came in the other day and I was very excited, I saw the plane in action at the Lakeland contest a few weeks ago and thought for me flying sportsman what else do I need. (Focus for sale) I was trying to test fly on Saturday, but I have having problems with the ESC, I have the Ice 75 and Hacker A50-16s, all it does is beep. I have tried everything, changed the receivers out tried a different ESC and motor on the receiver, it works. Called Castle creations, they told me that the ESC was not getting a signal. I am using a separate receiver battier, clip the red wire. A friend is going to bring over a 100amp unit this weekend to try and see if we can get it working. Any suggestions here, I know I have something wrong, but what? Hey thanks TMG Elevators -Futaba 9650 Ailerons- HS-5245 Hacker A50-16s ESU—who knows Rudder Pull-Pull JR cheap digital

RE: H-9 Phoenix 7 build note! mis-print!!
I got my plane back in October, First flight about two weeks ago, on the first flights NX60 lean out in the air, did everything I could think of, then I took the engine out for the third time, took the tank apart and replace the tubing in the tank, moved the needle valve to the carb. Now it runs great. The plane is very nose heavy, on one of the first light did a immerman on very low rates and had to quickly hit the rate switch to keep from hitting the ground, the battier is now at the rear of the plane. I need to seal the elevators. I have the electrics retracts and the weight seem just fine. But I like a heavy plane, this is not a turn around type plane, go high, do a split S, get to Mach I, do the maneuver, and do it again. Terry

RE: Hauler
I have had lots of request on how I constructed the little trailer, when I can find the photos I will post a build thread on RCU, let you all know where. But here is the short story. I had a old angle iron 4x8 utility trailer. Had to get a new axle and wheels, extended the sides to make it 10 ft. when to the local steel outlet, and got a lot of 1 inch angle iron, it is cheap. Framed up the trailer and covered it with the aluminum. It comes in 4 x10 sheet so I had to do very little cutting. Trimmed the corners with 1.5 aluminum angle. Used #10 self-tapping screws to hold it together. Use 1inch square to framed the door got the SS hinges and handles from home depot. It was actually about 700 to make with the lights wheels. We made another with from a trailer from harbor freight and used wood 2x4 and covered it with red aluminum. looked good too.

Get a little trailer, I made this little trailer for around $600. and it weight about 600 lbs, and pulled it with a 6 cylinder VW golf. I could back it into the garage charge the planes.

RE: IMAC or NSRCA?
I urge you to try both; I fly basic in IMAC and started back in sportsman in NSRCA. Both are very challenging and will make you a better pilot. But for me it is all about the people at the events, both groups are great. When I went to my first out of town NSRCA event in Prattville, AL. I was amassed on how nice the flyers were, I striped the threads on the head of my os140. I told the CD that I wanted to withdraw and before I knew it, some folks grab my plane and fixed it, with parts from their plane. How nice is that, I just met these guys. But then again at my first IMAC event, another newbie broke his plane, so we shared my YAK. We both sucked, but had fun. At our club we have a group of NSRCA guys and no IMAC flyers, so in order to get coaching I fly the with the NSRCA guys, and put up the giant scale crap they dish out, but, they would not say those thing if they did not care, besides they are just jealous because their little planes cannot hover. So that’s the ticket, have fun, get with a group of people you like to be around, and just do it. I think for me, it will be mostly NSRCA events next year. T GREEN

RE: EU-1 vs. EU-1A Differences Help
I am very interested in building a EU1-A, It looks like a good flying plane, for someone like me that just wants to play at pattern, and have nice looking plane this might be the one. I see several people are making fuselage but do not post the wing span and area, does anyone know what it is. The other thing I like about the EU!-A is the up right engine, make a great weekend flyer, but I would like to use a modern engine. Like a OS120AX with a rap around header. Think that would work? Back in the 80’s we had a Eu1 or EU1-A fuse, a friend made the stabs angle down and we cut a big set of wings put a ST2500 in it and he painted it like the F-4, he flew. Real fun plane. T Green

RE: H-9 Phoenix 7 build note! mis-print!!
Just started on my P7, think I will bench run the engine first, before I cut the nose of the plane. I have spun crank bearings, broke a crank on an inverted engine, and shot a glow plugs across the ramp. but never had the bottom bearing come apart. Please let us know if they will replace the engine. Where is the best place to drill the pressure tap? On the header flange or on the pipe? Sorry to hear about engine, T Green

RE: Servos Suggestions
Thanks guys, two good suggestions, i need to look up the focus build post, should of done it before i flew the plane. I did just make a bearing about 3/4 of the way down the pushrod shaft, what a pain.. i have shorten the push rods to as short as i can get them, maybe this will work. D-bodary how heavy are the bell Cranks, did your focus seem to come out tail heavy? and I have used airtronic servos, I had them in my Altanta, I remember now, thery were about 3/4 the size of a futaba and about half the weight. the plane is still on the heavy side even with carbon tube and landing gear..I need to stop my wining and get to work. thanks again tgreen

Servos Suggestions
I am building my first pattern plane in 25 years, Focus II, nice plane, requires a little more work than most of the ARF I have had in the last few years. But, I am having problems with the elevator pushrod. First I build as the designed with the bearing at the end of the push rod, it seem like I had a lot of flex in the elevators. I messed with that for days, got mad pulled it out and put in two HS 77 low profile ailerons servos under the stab to run the elevators. They work great, but I have had to add about 5 oz to the nose, man I hate that. But of course, the plane is over weight, I call it Ms Piggy. I am in the process of removing the servos and going back to a push rod., now, I am able to remove the nose weight. But I still have a lot of flex. The hs77 weight about 1.2 oz, the wires are about another ounce or so, the 4/40 push rods with ball end , it all added up. Can any some suggest some small lightweight servos that are up to the task for 2m elevators? I am going to try to fly the plane again this after noon. If it not to my liking I have got to fix it. I have only got a few weeks until my first pattern contest and need to get the plane sorted out. Thanks T green
