Aurora 9 flaperon set up
I am starting to work on programming my first plane into the A9 and I want to set it up with flaperons as it does in my other radios. I have used the Acro mode and the indicated the plane has 2 aileron servos. The channels being 1 and 5 per the instructions for dual aileron servos. What is the recommended approach for programming flaperons? Do I use a PMIX and slave the channels? I am thinking that isn't the case because I already told the TX to use Ch 5 for the other aileron servo. Thanks

RE: New Hitec Aurora 9-Channel 2.4Ghz Radio System
Mike, My local shop has a shipment of the Auroras in and has one set aside for me. I am afraid I may have misunderstood this post and want to make sure I understand. As things stand the systems in stock apparently have a 2 7 channel RXs. I thought I read somewhere that the systems shipping with 9 channel RXs would have a similar intro. bundle. Is that true or wishful thinking on my part. At this point I am prepared to wait for the 9 channel RX bundle if that is what is going to become available. In these parts winter isn't far off and there are few flying days left. Waiting a few more days for the 9 channel RXs to ship the the TX doesn't matter. Thanks

RE: Hitec 2.4Ghz Module/RX combo arrival
Four flights today on a glow powered model with flaperons and dual aileron servos. All the programming in the 9C from when I was running 72mghz with it seemed to work just fine. First 2.4 flights were tight with a Alfa Wildcat this time I flew the Sig LT 40 up and out as far as I could and still keep orientation. The 2.4 module seems to work great with my 9C. As soon as the 9 channel RXs become available I am going to try it in a more complex airplane. I really couldn't see any issues with the module or RX now that I understand a bit more of what I am doing. So for those keeping score I have two of the 7 channel RXs in two planes, one a glow model and the other a foamie electric with ESC. So far so good.

RE: Hitec 2.4Ghz Module/RX combo arrival
Flew the 2.4 module in a foam electric model with ESC tonight. 4 flights no problems. I was running the module in a Futaba 9C. Tonight I am setting up a sport plane glow model hopefully I will get a chance to go out to the field and try that out. No problems at all that I am aware of other than my inexperience with 2.4 systems.

Alan, Thanks for the reply. I'm hoping the Hitec folks will respond so that I can get official word on these questions. I went back and re-read the directions and notice there is a bit about range checking and powering down. Thanks, Chris

2.4 module questions
I just picked up the 2.4 module and a couple 7 channel RXs at the LHS and read the instructions while eating my lunch. Those instructions left me with a couple questions. First off I'm planning to install this module in a 9C and hopefully have a chance at an Aurora before the weather shuts me down for the year. To the questions: 1. All the diagrams in the RX instructions depict installations with up to 6 servos plugged into the 7 channel RX. Is there a problem with running 7 servos and having one channel take a Y with the switch/battery and a servo? 2. I may have missed it but I didn't see any guidance about how the RX antenna should be installed in the plane. Being new to 2.4 I want to make sure I don't create any "original" problems with my install. 3. The module instructions discuss following range check instructions on page 12. THe module instructions like the RX instructions are a large multi-fold page with print on both sides. I assume the directions must come from a manual for an upcoming TX and can easily understand how this error could happen. Can you detail the recommended range check procedure in case it differs from what I am used to with 72mghz? I'm fired up to give this equipment a try but I am going to start out flying this stuff in an electric foam Wildcat and then migrate it into lower risk glow airframes and eventually into some gas powered planes with higher torque servos but first I want to make sure I give this stuff a chance by not making mistakes on my part. Thanks, Chris

RE: Hitec 2.4Ghz Module/RX combo arrival
Just picked up my module and 2 RXs at the LHS, the Hobby Horse. They are working on shipping a bunch of them. Digested the instructions over lunch and I'm going to post some questions about the instructions in the Hitec forum. Time looks tight tonight but I think at some point on Friday assuming I can install it and set things up properly I should be flying it on Friday.

RE: Need help with next project
Seems like you would be looking at a radial engined or at least round front airplane. What about a Zero a Hellcat or a Focke Wulf. A big Sea Fury would be sweet too. Those are just the planes that come to mind that I know have plans available in a size that could hide that motor. For the Allies: Hellcat SBD TBM SB2C Skyraider? Corsair P-36? blow up Bates plan I-16 La-5 WW1? For Axis Zero Focke Wulf Ki-43 Ki-27 Val Kate

RE: What do you expect from a warbirds event
I was first attracted to RC simply as a means to fly those warbirds. Then I found events where groups of people with similar interest in the history and fascination with the building and flying of them occurred and most of those folks are real personable. That is what hooked me and keeps my interest so my take is: Definitely include spactators and don't kill them with fees for parking and viewing. Sure a fee is reasonable but keep the amount reasonable. Remember those folks might be the same folks deciding whether your flying site is a value or a great place for a landfill. I personally like some period music at the event but keep it low key and in a similar vein I don't find the announcers all that interesting unless they really know their stuff. It sure seems like some of the folks on the microphone are there simply because there is a tradition of having someone on the microphone. I personally believe that you can have nearly any kind of warbird in the air with another assuming everyone understands the pattern and a little discretion is exercised with the flight envelopes. SO don't have a WW1 gaggle flight while a guy is flying his twin turbine F-15 at speeds approaching the full size speed. Do impound transmitters if they are on 72 mghz or if the pilot is going to fly on 72 mghz by switching modules. To me it seems like the emergence of 2.4 is resulting in some sloppiness about frequency control. I like raffles if they have interesting stuff in them. Generates more money for the local club and if it has warbird related stuff in then it might help soften the cost of traveling to the event if you have shot at winning something of value. Have your port a pottie pumped! Nother better than getting to an event and needing to head to the head and smelling a months worth of accumulation. Maybe bring in an extra head or two for the event if its a big event. I know if this were to happen more it would be a lot easier to convince my wife of joining me for a weekend out of town. Hold a pilots briefing each day for multi-day events. Make sure everyone gets a chance to hear how your event will handle the radios, the flight line, safety etc. Please keep it about the warbirds and or the classics if you are having that sort of event. I don't like going to an event and dropping a pretty good chunk of change and then have an hour or an hour and a half of the day dedicated to watching someone fly 3D. Don't get me wrong those folks have some of the most talented fingers around but to me its sort of like having to buy a ticket to a movie you don't want to see. The age of my kids has kept me out of most of the events the last couple of years but that will change and I think if folks keep running events like the ones I have been to then this segment of our hobby will still be there when I have the time to get back out on the road.

RE: Meister Scale FW 90D9 to Atlanta or Bust!!!!
The Meister 190D was my first giant scale build. Mine had a G62 in it and was an excellent flyer and easy build after having only built a couple of kits and a Top Flite P-40E. The only drawback was the CJM gear that were about all that was available at the time. I had the gear fail with the play just assembled and sitting in the pits. Sweet airplane I will build another at some point in fact I kept the cockpit to put in the new airplane when it gets built. here is a picture

help picking a 4 stroke for a Cub
I'm going to build the Sig 1/5 Cub this winter. I'm leaning toward a 70 sized 4 stroke for it because I may set it up to fly off floats as well as wheels. I used to have a H9 Arf 82" Cub that flew great on an OS 70 Surpass both on floats and off wheels or skis. The other day I looked at what a new OS 70 Surpass was going to cost and I about gagged. Then I looked at the other motors in that size range and saw the prices were similar. So it looks like if I am settled on that size I am left with dealing with those kind of prices. So to the question, you know my application now how about sharing what you have experienced with the different brands of 70ish sized 4 strokes. Looking for perspective on ease of handling, power, prop etc. Thanks, Chris

Hitec 2.4 module in 9C
I am considering buying the Hitec 2.4 module and receiver to try out with my Futaba 9C while waiting for the Aurora to be released. What I am curious about is what/how Hitec recommends you mount the 2.4 antenna to the 9C when using the Hitec 2.4 module? Thanks, Chris

RE: Aurora 9 radio
Mike, I noticed in the sales documentation available on the Aurora 9 that servo speed can be set. What I am curious about is whether there is the ability to chain channels and delay the triggering of the second channel. I tend toward building scale and warbirds and one of the the things that seems to add cost and complexity is the need for gear door sequencers. Do you know if it is possible to have the actuation of the gear switch result in one channel being used then after a period of time have another channel be sequenced? So if I flip the switch for gear up the gear come up then the doors would close (doors on a second channel). Thanks, Chris

RE: 46 FX help with Con rod
Bax, Thanks for the help. I actually noticed the arrow on the piston and did a bit of digging to learn that the arrow should point to the exhaust port. Since the rod was still connected to the piston, making the arrow point to the exhaust port ironed the whole issue out. With further digging I noticed a post on a question about the 46LA and found the info about the the chamfer on the bushing. Thanks again. Chris

46 FX help with Con rod
I managed to have my 46FX have a close encounter of the terra kind yesterday. No serious damage that I can tell but I did break it down to clean the dirt out of it. In the course of doing so the sleeve come out and then the con rod came off the shaft. So I've got it all cleaned up and wanting to reassemble it but I am worried about knowing which side of the con rod goes toward the front. If I look at the machining on it one side has a deeper groove than the other where it tapers. It isn't clear to me which side the deeper machined side goes on fore or aft? I'm probably not describing this very well basically I'm trying to avoid having the piston be 180 degrees from its original position by putting the con rod in the wrong way. I'm also worried that I could score the sleeve by putting it in the wrong way. I suppose I have a 50% shot but given my luck I know which way that would end up. Anyone have an idea how I would tell? The exploded view doesn't appear clear to me. Thanks, Chris

DL 50 muffler woes
I'm trying to wrap up the installation of a DL 50 in a Me 109 model. I have the stock muffler and a wrap around pitts so far and neither fits well withou tearing up the nose pretty badly. I am thinking about trying Bisson pitts style. Does anyone have any experience with that muffler? HOw about a US source for it. I can order from Bisson but my experience is that it takes forever to get something through customs. Thanks, Chris

DL 50 muffler question
I sent an email off the DL engine folks in Texas but given the number of folks here who have posted on the DL 50 I'm hoping that someone can provide some information. I bought the engine with the stock muffler, now that I have it in the fuse of the 109 I am working on I think a wrap around or something which takes up less room width wise may be a better choice for this installation. Do you folks know if the DA 50 mufflers will fit this motor? If so do you know how the motor performs with them? Thanks, Chris
