RE: Official F27 Stryker Part 8: Beginners to Custom Darkness
I don't think the 80 amp was too much more than the 60 and I would rather go big to begin with and have more room to move later. I'll look into that second MEGA. As to the batteries, I have to sell my Slayer before I even get an electric car and I'm not looking to invest in those batteries until then. Right now it doesn't look like anyone is buying so I don't know when, or if, it will sell.

RE: Official F27 Stryker Part 8: Beginners to Custom Darkness
ORIGINAL: moparmyway There are some basic questions that need answers first. 1. Do you like speed or climbing ..........maybe both ? 2. Are you limited to just those batteries ? 3. Do you have any modifications to your Stryker ? 4. I see you are looking at a new motor and ESC, anything else..........possibly ?? 5. What props do you have ?
1. I would like climbing way more than speed. Not that I want to go slower than I am now, but I'm not looking to build a speed plane 2. Right now I am but I'm also looking to get into Electric RC Buggies and I may spring for some 3s5000 25-35C rated packs at some point for the car and I would prob get packs that can work in the planes too (gotta love brushless lipo!) 3. I have mods. I put in carbon fiber rods from wing tip to wing tip and all the way from front to back just like the instructions. I also have balso elevons (they help with stunts... I do all kinds of things like hammerheads with my stryker!) Everything else is stock. 4. Really only a new motor and ESC. The ESC really only to support the motor. I was looking at the Pink Plush 60a from Hobby City. What else besides batteries? I have a full-range receiver for my Spektrum already as well (forgot to mention) 5. I don't have much of any props right now because I'm still running the stock setup. My LHS has a pretty good selection though and they are open every day.

I've been having a lot of problems with this site, especially yesterday. That prior post took 4 tries of IE locking and crashing before I was able to post it up... I've been thinking of getting new electrics for a while. I was going to look into the medusa (??) but they stopped selling. I'm not looking for a speed machine and only have 3c2200 25C batteries. Perhaps that motor and a smaller ESC will work for me...
ORIGINAL: Fliprob17 That's interesting. I have only used E-Flite motors, and they all have a red, blue and black wire. Just assumed that the red and black were positive and negative.
That, IMO, would represent better customer service and understanding to the novice to help them get it wired up the right way the first time. The color wires might not mean anything but if having colors there that mean something to us and it helps us set them up, then by gosh I'm glad they are like that! Help with mounting a prop
Ok... So I'm new to the scratch building end - basically anything other than plug and play - and I'm having a bit of a problem. I recently purchased [link=http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=6547]this[/link] motor (with integrated prop saver) and can't get a prop to stay on. I have a couple different sized APC 8x4 E props and they won't stay on! The problem, as I see it, is the screws into the motor don't have ends on them and the rubber band just slides off... I tried getting those screws out and can't for the life of me. I have tried using heat but didn't want to use too much and damage the motor. I have not gone to the point of pliers on them because I know that would ruin them. So, how is this supposed to work?

RE: My first plane design build
I'm still watching this thing and trying to figure out the sizes from that pic you had with the ruler on the bottom :) As for the Rx... I accidentally bumped it off of a shelf in my house and when it landed the antenna on the top broke off pulling the wire out. I wanted to just buy a new one but Spektrum said no and made my ship it back to them to fix... it was free but at least 1 month without flying. I'm really thinking of switching to Futaba because this is the 2nd time I've had to ship the transmitter off (the first time was because it crapped out and cost my a 150.00 plane) and that time it took 2.5 months to get back! I'm dying to fly again...

I know I ordered a single motor and it never arrived... I was told that since I didn't order it registered I was SOL. Pisses me off but I didn't argue the point since it was only $13 with shipping... I tossed that one up to live and learn. Nothing has been wrong with any other orders though so I'll try them again (actually re-ordered the same motor but chose registered). Hopefully this one will come correct... if not then it is the end my ordering. The cheaper prices are good as long as you get what you ordered...

RE: *&^%$#@!!!!!
I see you've been a member for a while, are you new to the air or have any experience with it or have you mostly been on the ground? Most don't like to hear it but unless you have some experience it is best to start off with a high-wing trainer like a Super Cub. With that you will fly pretty easy and get the hang of it. After that you can move on to more advanced planes. Of course, if you are stuborn and don't mind spending the money (like myself), then start off with anything you want, just expect to crash a lot in the beginning (like myself) as you learn to fly. I started off on a stryker which is NOT recommended. I put a money into a couple replacements but eventually learned how to do it... cost me more in the long run though.
ORIGINAL: moparmyway I do NOT like HS82MG's at all !!! They do NOT have an output bearing, and have ALOT of wobble. If you have HS82's installed already, please grab your servo horn and move it up and down. Watch the servo arm, see it moving ???? That equates to slop in the flight controll, and that will give you less controll that you will want.
Funny... I just finished putting mine together and guess what I used? Yep, HS82's. They actually feel pretty good and I don't see any slop in mine. I'm also not going to any speed records but I do like to throw the stryker around. I actually got everything put together. I had another unexpected 300.00 bill come in so there went the extra funds for the new motor and ESC for now.... oh well. I put my old stuff on. I threw on a 7x5 prop and it flew really well! I can't see how anyone can get much more than a 7" prop on there... it is just about touching both sides where the fins go, you would have to trim down those longer fin supports to get a bigger prop on! So my first flight this morning was great! Absolutely NO wind (first for a while). Of course no wind = more bugs. Still, it flew pretty darn good. I would like to get more servo throw out of the ailerons.... I need to figure out how to do that on my DX6i. I'll post up finished pics later.

They have devices to help find planes but they are expensive and usually only used for the more expensive planes. I know I have (or will have) a good bit of $$ into mine, but not the thousands of dollars into it that the people who buy those things put into their planes. Sorry about your loss. Now you just need to build a new one! :)

RE: Official F27 Stryker Part 8: Beginners to Custom Darkness
Wow my head is spinning! I was thinking last night after the post about maying getting the 2200kv instead well but I still don't know. There may be a small chance that in the future I will want a bit larger of an electric plane and may start getting into 4s batteries. Right now I can't afford it so all mine are 25-30c 2200. I hate to say "never" because that really does rarely happen. I do think I would more likely run a 4s through it before running two of my 3s. That being said, it sounds like the 2500kv would still be better for if I decide to go 4s in the future, is this correct? EDIT: Again, right now and any forseeable future, doing stunts will be more important than fast flying. I would like to be able to get vertical (which I can't do now). I would love to be able to do that on a smaller prop so I have less of a chance taking off any fingers (I have to throw mine and don't have anyone else to do it for me). I am pretty fearless when it comes to that though and have never thought of it in the past. So, with a 1700kv it would be a larger prop... can I get the same "performance" with the 2500kv with a smaller prop or would it be better to go 1700kv and get a larger one? Thanks for all the help. I guess all of you have already gone through this... I still have a LOT of questions!

I have a charger that can handle 4s batteries but I have multiple planes and just want to keep to the 3s 2200 size (makes it easier for me to have one batter for everything). I would prefer not to use 2 batteries at the same time. So it looks like the 2500 is for me then! :) Thanks! Oh, I was looking into the [link=http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=3727&Product_Name=TURNIGY_Plush_80A_w/_UBEC_Speed_Controller]Turnigy Plush 80a[/link]. RE: Official F27 Stryker Part 8: Beginners to Custom Darkness
Ok, I'm getting ready to buy the motor. Looks like I'm looking at the Medusa from the recommendations. So now it does come down to the 1700, 2200 and 2500 as stated earlier. So: Flying style is more into stunts than all-out speed, but speed is fun! :) I would like to get faster than the stock (maybe get into the 80 mph range), but also get the unlimited vertical if possible. And, all this running a single 3s 2200 battery. Is it possible? Things are coming together fine. I got my ailerons connected up. I still need to trim them up. I didn't leave much of a gap so it only goes to the 45 degree mark that is already carved into the aileron stock. This still lets it go pretty far. I realized I forgot to buy a new motor mount and rear wings so I'll need to run back to the store for those (plus paint). I will hopefully have everything together and flying with the stock stuff so I can fly Friday. Leaves a lot of work for me to do tomorrow night!

I second the Typoon 2. You can get a cheap one in pretty good condition on ebay that works really good if you already have a lot of the electronics. That is what I did and had one flying for about 80 (again, I already had an ESC and receiver and the motor it came with plus all the servos were good and I didn't need to replace them). Well, I went out and started to get some supplies to get going. Cost more than I wanted to for right now, as I know I'm going to be spending a lot more on a new Motor and ESC, but I'll be doing this in steps so it isn't too bad (figure I'll be spending around 250 or 300 to get this bird in the air total).
