RE: Wild Hare Electrics
Spent some time going over my Edge 540 last night and discovered that the wings did not have the same amount of incidence on each side. The trailing edge of the right wing was an 1/8" below the leading edge. The left wing was 3/16" off. I measured two of my other planes ( 3DHS 70" Slick, PA 58" MX) and there wings were level with the canopy deck. I elongated the holes for the wing pins and leveled the wings to the canopy deck on the Edge 540. I then glued a new piece of ply with the 1/4" hole for the wing pin. I hope this helps the flying of this plane. I also feel like the rudder is a little weak in knife edge flight. I have a 64oz servo on the rudder. That should be plenty. I would be curious to know if any one else has had the same problems. Lee Mitchell

RE: Servos jitter when using CC bec
I have tried plugging a 4 cell AA batrtery rx pack into the reciever not using the speed control to power up the reciever and everthing is just fine. Only when I power up the plane with my 4s lipo and power up the rx thru the bec do the servos jitter. If I unplug the speed control from the Rx they settle down some but not completly. I am going to go back and rerout my antenna wire and get it away from the BEC hoping that helps. Lee Mitchell

Servos jitter when using CC bec
Decided to try and use a CC bec so my servos were running on 6 volts. Wired up the bec as per instructions and removed the red wire from the Hobbywing 60 amp ESC. When I power up the esc with my 4s lipo the servos jump all over the place. If I remove the esc wire from the reciever they get better but not good. If I use a seperate 6v power supply to power up the reciever everything is ok. I even put a ferrite ring on the bec lead to eliminate any possible noise. Now I am just stumped. Any ideas? I am using some arms that came with a 3D hobbyshop 47" plane. They were made to screw to the existing arms for an HS 65 servo. They worked just fine on the Power HD mini's I used. Here is a link to the servo arms. http://www.3dhobbyshop.com/detail.aspx?ID=2193 I only had 3 but I made two more out of some lite ply. Tom I sure enjoyed the visit with you and your wife last Saturday. Did your pool thaw out yet? Is there any video of this plane on You Tube or somewhere else? I would like to see it fly. Lee Mitchell

RE: Wild Hare Electrics
I just got my Edge 540 finished a few days ago. Waiting for the rain to stop so I can maiden it. How much travel are you guys getting on your control surfaces with the stock servo arms. I used some after market servo arms and can get 50 degrees on the elevator and 40 on the ailerons. Hope this plane is going to be the all out 3D monster I am looking for. I done some testing on my power setup(Emax g25 motor) and I am getting about 740 watts with a 13x6 electric wood prop using 4s 5000 mah packs. Do you think that will get me decent vertical performance? All up weight with the 5000 mah packs is 4lbs. Plane with no batt weighs 3lbs. I will post up some pics in a few days. Lee Mitchell

RE: 67
I have 3 HS-645 servos on the tail. I had to add 2 oz of weight to the nose. After I addded the aluminum braces to the motor mount I now have no lead on the front. How many degrees of up aileron are you putting in to get it to harrier. I tried maybe a 1/4" to 3/8" of travel on the ailerons and all it did was want to nose the plane over. Are you mixing this with the elevator and if so at what point do bring in the spoileron in with the elevator. I tried just using the flap switch to toggle on the spoileron travel I wanted. 67" Fusion & Inverted flat spins
Been working on getting the setup on my Fusion with a Saito 100 on it. Got the CG where I like it. (Very Neutral when rolled inverted). Roll rate is good. (Very Axial) Elevator throw is 45 degrees. KE is awsome, hovering is good. hairrers are just OK. What I can't get it to do is inverted flat spins. I try adding some right or left aileron, more or less power and all it wants to do is just tumble down very erractic. Never makes the same move twice as it rotates down. Have I just not found the sweet spot yet or does it not spin good. I am enjoying this thing alot. Great plane to just have some fun with. The Saito 100 with a 15x4W prop does a pretty good job. I had to add a piece of aluminum angle to the side of the fuse to keep the motor from vibrating. Once I got that fixed it flies like a dream. Lee Mitchell

RE: OMP Pro Yak
Got to maiden the Pro Yak with the Aviastar 46 up front. Got it trimmed out pretty quick and decided to add some throttle. Over half throttle I got lots of rudder flutter. The whole back of the plane would shake like crazy. Brought it down and checked everything out. All seemed OK. Flew again and had the same thing. We found the servo arm a little loose on the rudder. That helped a little. I am going to put a stiffer push rod on the rudder and I think that should help even more. Other than that it handled really good. The Aviastar 46 is more than enough power. I was running a 12.25x3.75 APC prop. My AUW is 4.5 lbs. I have my CG at 5.25 dry and it seemed just a tad bit nose heavy for me. I like a very neutral plane when rolled inverted. Looking forward to getting it dialed in. It appears it has promise to be a great 3D plane. I will post some pics when I get the graphics finished up. I have to take my plane apart to transport it. The double wing tubes are kind of a pain. Sure wish they would have put a tube in the wing for them to slide into. Other than that it is a great ARF. The finish quality was great. Lee Mitchell

RE: SIG Aviastar .46
It idles just fine. Transition is OK not great. My concern is I can not kill the motor by closing the carb. With LSN in as far as I have to set it to get it to transition OK, The carb will not close enough to kill the motor. I can back out the LSN a turn or so and the motor will die when closing the carb but transition suffers. I pushed down on the carb pretty hard while tightning the carb clamp so I would assume it is tight. Lee Mitchell

RE: SIG Aviastar .46
Spent a couple of hours tuning on my Aviastar .46. It will idle all day long. it will pull 12x4 wood Zinger 10500 RPM. Once off bottom it responds to throttle well. Coming off bottom it stumbles a little bit, never does die. I have the low speed needle in so far that you can not close the carb enough to kill the motor. It appears to me that the low speed and high needle work in relation to each other. If I would change the HSN then the LSN would need to be reset. Never did feel like I could get the LSN too lean. Is this the symtoms of the wrong or bad carb you guys have had? Lee Mitchell

RE: OMP Pro Yak
Can someone tell me at about what CG this plane gets very nuetral. ie roll inverted and very little down elevator is needed. The manual says 4.75 to 5.5 is the CG window. I will be hanging a Avaistar .46 on the nose weighing 18 oz. Should I mount the motor forward or aft on the engine mount? Also is the 2 degrees of right thrust doing the trick for this plane? This will be my first glow profile. I have a small electric profile and has become my favorite plane. Hoping the Pro Yak will let me fly in a little more wind. We don't get many calm days here in Texas. Lee Mitchell

RE: New Aeroworks .60/.90 Planes
I have put several more flights on my 260. Flys really great till you start to get aggressive with the elevator. Wants to drop the right wing and roll over on its back. Does it on low rates as well as high rates. If you just ease into the elevator in seems OK. But if you make a sudden move it snaps. I found a heavy wing tip and thought that might fix it. No good. Put some up aileron in it and no good. Added nose weight,no good. Added tail weight,no good. It flys so good other wise, the Saito 100 is a great match for this plane. With a 16x4W it performs really great. The strange part is if you roll inverted and go full down elevator it seems to be OK. The travel is the same for both up and down elevator. Lee Mitchell

RE: my HET Mig-29 Build
well after finding out the wing spars are junk in these kits, and know to fail and taco the jet mid air i had to do something to try to help it. ok fiberglassing done! heres the top view: i glassed the wing root joints, and shelak'ed on some resin to the top of the fuse' which was just paper thin and bendy. one side is just as it was shelak'ed on, and the other side is about 50% sanded, having the opportunity to do this again, would do it differently or not at all. goes from the engine humps to the front of the vents. close up of the glassed wing root. and heres the bottom side, ducts re-enforced for belly landing. i epoxyed a 1/32" carbon fiber plate to the wing root, just behind the spar on the bottom side, then glassed the entire root joint. ill use some filler around the CF plate to make it nice and smooth around the edges/lip. and its hard to tell but i glassed the inside of the nozzles to protect against harrier landings. the flash makes it look slopy and craptastic, but its pretty smooth in reality. now the REAL work begins, sanding all this so none of it shows once its painted. lots of dust yet to fly.... luckily the z-poxy finishing resin although hard, seems to sand fairly easily.

RE: New Aeroworks .60/.90 Planes
I've got two flights on her. Was having a little issue with needle valve setting. I think the 16x4w might be a bit too much prop. I run 20% fuel at 850' elevation. I am going to try a 15x4W prop and see if it likes it better. The plane seemed very stable and flew really nice. Did not get to ring it out much so time will tell. About where should the needle settle into when it is running at peak RPM. I was thinking before when I had this Saito 100 in my U CAN DO it was around 1 1/2 turns out. Does that seem a little lean? Looking forward to getting this thing tweaked and running good. Do you guys think those clips on the wing studs are a pain in the a$$ or what. Is it a must to use them. I am thinking about putting a second wing bolt in mine and not fool with the clips. Lee Mitchell

Saito 100-Glow Plug Blew Out of Head
Was tuning on my Saito 100 after it would not idle. I had put a Fox Miracle Plug in it and it would not idle unless you left the glow igniter on. Went and bought an OS Type F and bingo it idled fine. I was setting the high speed needle, had leaned it out to max rpm backed off 200 rpm and was pulling it back to idle and POW something poped. Took the cowl off to find the glow plug missing. Looked around and found the glow plug. When you tried to ignite it, it was shorted out and just got hot but did not glow red. The threads in the head seem OK. What is up with this? Lee Mitchell
