RE: RC Surfer
karl Do you have much problems with the boardsharks dude snapping ? I wonder how hard it would be to make a custom guy that turns his body like the boardsharks guy. I think It enhances the realisim and looks sick.

RE: RC Surfer
Hey dom Great video. Really shows the differences.Bi fin was alot more stable but the single fin looked quicker. At the end you said a single would be better for faster hollow waves. On my board I found the bi fin held the boards rail alot better in hollow waves then a single fin. Single fin had a tendency to lean the outside rail down. The upside with the single was how loose the board is ...which is something i really like in a board. I also found that hitting the lip or roundhouse cutbacks the bifin was alot better .

RE: RC Surfer
Curly I am only pointing out how EXTREME prices are for a single fin and that an easyer option is to make one. Rogue obviously has the skills to fiberglass as he mentioned so of course i am going to send him in that direction. He could make 8 for that price. Good customer service is ment to be free
ORIGINAL: rogue29 Thanks for the info Cananzi... When you said glass a new decklid, could i glass underneath stock and run the wingnut setup through it? Or would it still be to flimsy. I was thinking about getting some plexi like i have seen on some other custom setups for decklid. Maybe later...just want to get this in the water first after going through and sealing up as much

RE: RC Surfer
Karl It would be great to know the difference so we are not just throwing a dart and hoping for a bullseye That is really weird that they cant tell you. Maybe theres some sort of language barrier or the person replying to the emails has no idea. Or they think they are Brushless Motor Gods lol Its really strange for them to recommend a 28mm can. Most boards seem to be around the 2kg mark or more i wouldnt think a 28mm would be able to handle the weight to well and over heat or run to hot. Tripper That would be awesome if you could ask TP or someone. I cant find anything on the net about it.

Hi admins/mods Just wondering due to our rcsurfing hobby growing so rapidly here on rcu and so much info being posted Is it possible if we could get our own Rc Surfers Catergory? The thread is up to 206 pages its become to hard for new comers to find the info they are looking for. thanks

RE: RC Surfer
ORIGINAL: rogue29 So i am almost done back reading this entire forum...man what a bunch of info...i see hobbyking is a good source of parts.. i see the boardsharks is a waste of time to mess with.. i split open the nqd today and im going to reseal with marine grade silicone and epoxy the underneath bolt areas. Should i reuse the large and small metal rod weights that were in there and is there a certain area to glue them in. Also do you reuse the foam in there? do i replace the servo linkage tube or use the original? I will post a ton of questions and hope i don't piss anybody off if you guys are way beyond this point. Maybe someone elese who is getting started can hook up and bounce parts sources off each other. Thanks.
Gday rogue I reused the foam on most of mine. Didnt really notice any difference with or without. go crazy with the marine silcone!! Try pay special attention around the rudder area with the marine silcone...dont be shy with it. Hobbyking is the best place for parts by far. the stock linkage tube is fine to re use I would make sure you epoxy or glass in something underneath the engine mount so when mounting the motor you have something to screw into..the stock plastic is pretty poor. if you were willing to go all the way with the board you could tap back threw the nuts in the towers and slot threw m5 bolts and epoxy them in and then glass a flat fibreglass decklid. then you can have a wingnut setup which so far for me has been way better then the stock lid. any questions just fire away. good luck

RE: RC Surfer
Dion As tripper said its a bit hard to judge rotation and it really depends on the conditions. I can land a decent percentage of lil 180 airs to reverse and then ride out , rodeo flips. Heres a lil 360 floater type spin from when i first test run my 32inch custom. http://youtu.be/4ekpuxtcmq8 the best flip i have ever seen in any footage would have to be this one....40secs in. http://youtu.be/Q71iNJgAoMo

RE: RC Surfer
Dom I love to watch back footage aswell. Can be great for improving your board. I found my old HD video camera (cheapy) think i will mount like yours. My other waterproof camera I tried wasnt clear but this video camera is good enough i think. What size thread did you use for the mount? My video camera looks to be m6 or m7 thread by the looks. I found with the way i hold the pistol grip i have to have the camera leaning on a backwards angle.

RE: RC Surfer
MJ I also moved the thrust point forwards on my custom boards. Also recently move it forward when i was doing that fiberglass NQD that i did, It worked pretty well. It helped the hop and also seemed to carve a little bit better. I am not a fan of the small boards anymore after going back from a 32inch custom back to a NQD its terrible . Would love to see more pics of your tail ...your rails and tail have really got me thinking for a next board. dom I tryed a simular thing but i just taped it into place to see if it worked... it works well but my point and shoot waterproof camera doesnt film very clear. my footage looked like vintage footage I should post some for a larf.....terrible digital camera!! lol

RE: RC Surfer
dom Imo I think theres no right or wrong with tail rocker it depends what you want from a board. Kinder like when surfboard shapers figured out that toeing in the fins on a thruster increased the boards turning ability .....yeah creates drag but improves turning performance. I think same applies for slight negitive tail rocker or negitive rails they create slight drag but improves the performance. After seeing MJ's tail i am very keen on experimenting with that type of rail and tail design.

RE: RC Surfer
John I run a very small amount of negitve tail rocker roughly a few degrees. I actually liked my board better with out the tail rocker in the small-med surf as it would throw the tail easyer and ride out etc but becuase i made this board more for conditions like you guys get i decided to go with the tail rocker. Giving up your tail secrets!! Its very interesting seeing what you are using, not sure if its the picture angle but when i look at your rail line on your board the rail looks like they are negitive compared to straight ,maybe this is giving you the same nose down effect still but allowing you to have a positive tail rocker. So many possiblities with these things i guess thats what hooks people in to build a full custom. Dom how did the leopard go?

dom Yes all 3 new TX are doing the same thing. The new RX 's work with my old TX tho. Hobbyking dont want to know anything about it so looks like i will be wearing it. The customer service is so bad with hobbyking. I had another DOA esc in a bunch that i brought of ''the new hobbyking boat 70amp escs'' but i guess thats the chance you take with them.

RE: RC Surfer
hey kite I have been busy testing different tail rockers for the past few weeks. Roughly 15-20tail rockers later i have nailed one that works so far but i am yet to have in good conditions but its showing good signs so far. I really want to steer away from a board handling 2D like which is quite common in the bigger boards The key to my new set up is the bi fin. I think it is extremely important if you want to emulate pushing weight forward to rear. I basically have a tail rocker with a flat surface as wide as the keel in the centre like the kyosho with an angle of a few degrees below the bottom board line and then have two sloped peices extending from the centered rocker out to the rails. I have sanded them so that there blend in rounded. The bifin when going straight will pull the tail down on the straight piece of rocker which then will pull the nose down. when turning ..the bi fin will pull the tail down on to the angle sides of the rocker creating lean into the turns and pulling the nose up and digging the tail and rail in. the set up also gives the whole board a slight downforce. Going straight the board will throw weight forward .........turning board throws the weight back type of thing. Curls no full blown forums for me...once bitten twice shy. Your new board looks good. I did a simular board few months ago full fibereglass NQD with wingnuts and custom lid.

Hobbyking GT2 problems
hey guys I brought a few hobbyking GT2 transmitters for my customs rc surfers. I have noticed that all 3x GT2 transmitters are cutting out or getting interference about 50m-70m out in the surf. When i try one of the same GT2 transmitters that i brought a year ago it works perfectly with no problems. all 3 faulty? Any ideas? thanks

RE: RC Surfer
fishi your board is running perfect. I love clean surf that size i think its the most fun. wish we got more clean surf like that here,I am getting over the choppy crap atm but winter is on its way soon so it will be awesome again should finally get some footage of my boards in clean surf. iron out any water intrusion and i reckon your NQD is spot on. looks like all your hard work payed off mate. Curly You sell to the masses which i think is one of the reasons this hobby has grown so much. Daign 89bucks for a kyosho hull.............................thats not a bad price for an insult.

RE: RC Surfer
fish I will be having another session with markta in 3-4 weeks so if your mate wants to come out for a spin. currently dont have any other boards for sale as markta is buying the other spare i have. I wouldnt part with my modified NQD or my main board atm and the 32inch isnt finished. Cant build atm becuase of work and neighbours but least he could come have a look ,run some packs and see what its all about. Leads me to a question is epoxy resin oudorless? I had complaints again by neighbours about glassing :-(
