Johnson Mufflers Website ???
Hi guys, Just wondering if anyone knows where to find the website. Search for "Johnson Mufflers" and "Jayson Products" turned up nothing. I know Aircraft Int. carries them, but I was actually trying to find there own website....if it even exists. Thanks a bunch, Cap

RE: torch engines
Hello, Although I have not seen any of the motors fly other than in the videos, I have seen both the 90 and 180 in person....with the 60 being very much like the 90, just smaller. All I can say as these engines are VERY nice looking. The fit and finish is excellent, and the weights are right along with all the other top engine manufactures. You can tell by looking at them that time and effort has definately gone into developing these new contenders. Also, I have spoken face to face with Marcelo (manufacturer, along with a partner), and he is one of the nicest, down to earth guys you will every meet. Very easy to talk to and very enthusiatic about the motors. I hope everything works out for them, because the more quality choices we have, the more it will benefit our hobby. Cappy

85" Cap-Help Me Decide On Color
I'm going to be calling Tom and placing an order for bunny #2 tomorrow. Even with all the choices out there, it is hard to pass up WH considering how well my Edge flew and how well it held together with all the flight time I had on it. I can't however make up my mind on whether I want the red or yellow (that is, of course, if he has both in stock). I like both color schemes.....but I'm not to sure on which will have the best visability in the air. I've had all red planes before, and they were very hard to see. I also know that the colors in my Edge were extremely visable. I'm not too sure on the yellow though. Any input would be great :) Cap

RE: Wjhat is a reasonable flying speed for sport aerobatics.
DO NOT prop your motor to achieve the top speed you desire!!! You want the motor propped to be in the manufacturers recommended rpm range. You may get lucky doing what you want to do....but chances are, depending on the motor, you'll end up having it under propped and spinning to many rpm's on the top end.....or it will wind up over propped and the motor will always be too loaded......neither of which is good. You're best bet, in my opininion, is to prop it correctly within specs, and use you're ATV's on you're throttle servo to limit the motor to fly at the speed you want when max stick is given. This way the motor is happy...and so are you. :) Personally, I just think it's an even better practice to not worry about it, and just use good old fashioned throttle management when flying. [;)] Cap

*New Edge Video*
Hey fellow "Hare Brains" [:D], Here a new video of my now dearly departed Edge. I'ts actually an edit of a video from last month. Kind of did this for myself, for my archives as the plane is no more. This is the first time I spent any time "really" editing a video. Had to cut the original into 60 smaller vids for the edit....talk about time consuming [8|], but I think it came out ok. Hope you enjoy. :) Here are 2 different links in case one doesn't work....Vid is 61MB's on fast servers. RE: fuel line loop
For one, it prevents fuel from pouring out the vent line when tipping the plane on it's nose when working on it. And also, it helps prevent fuel from siphoning out the vent line during down lines in flight. Cap

RE: 28% Edge 540T *RIP*
No doubt Tom.[;)] The first 6 months I had it I was unemployed. I flew it about 4-5 days a weeks depending on the weather....needless to say, that didn't go over too well with the misses. [8|] Honestly, the last couple of weeks I was thinking about retiring it anyway and keeping it as a spare airframe and going bigger. But right now...since my wife is resigning from her job, money will be a bit tight so I am going to stay in the 50cc class and put something bigger together over the winter. The motor that was in it was a Brison 3.2....and a very strong one at that. Even with the amount of fuel through it, it's still is like new. No leaks.....bearings good.etc. I tore it down once prior to putting the Edge in and was amazed at how clean it looked on the inside. VERY minimal carbon buildup. Been using Mobil1 MX2T (now Synthetic 2T) 80:1 from the first drop of fuel in it. I have been eyeing the cap for a while, but am looking for something a bit more capable 3D and all around. I know the Edge was a capable airframe....god knows I put it through it's paces. The posts on the cap seem to tell me this, but what is your honest opinion (I know....this is a loaded question :)) Cap

28% Edge 540T *RIP*
Well....I hate to say it, but after 2 full seasons and nearly 400 flights, my Edge finally met it's maker on Friday, June 7th around 3pm. She was a great bird. With all that time on it, she only had a few minor bruises and some REALLY close calls close to the ground......several of which SHOULD have been her demise pulling some lucky saves out of my a$$. [:D] Ironically, one of which was the same day, but earlier. She went in immediately following a pretty violent waterfall.....all of a sudden I had nothing in the way of control. It appears that during this, my battery tray which I had made and that was screwed in place behind the hatch in the turtle deck ripped free which was actually checked during my pre-flight. The battery was connected with Deans ultra plugs and zip tied together, but from the force I guess it actually broke the zip tie. It took about 2 hours to actually find the plane because at the end of our runway is a marsh area and corn fields. It actually went in in the marsh...of course. I had to wade about waist high to a tall section of reeds to retrieve it. Luckily the only part that was in the water and mud was the motor. The tall reeds helped me there. All electronics survived but will be thoroughly checked or replaced. The motor and carb was promptly disassembled, cleaned and saturated with ATF (trans fluid) to prevent corrosion. Other than that the motor is fine. It is definitely no fun for those few helpless seconds when all you can do is watch it go in. But I have no hard feelings toward her as she served me well. [;)] Now the only question I have left is which Hare is next......how 'bout a Cap? Sounds good to me. [:D] Cap

I personally have tried all grades from just about every gas station around my area, and to be quite honest, I have not noticed any difference in performance from the low to high octane from the different stations....so why pay more than you need to. I have used both the Champion RCJ6Y or Autolite #2974. Both are direct replacements to the one that comes in the engine and work perfectly with a Bosch style cap. Both also perform top notch in the motor. BTW...motor is a Brison 3.2....but it is still a Sachs 3.2 head. Cap

AeroDave, I do the exact same thing for a wall.....idle straight and level.....and as I whack the elevator, I give it a quick blip of throttle and make adjustments from there. Thanks for the kind words Mike. I'm just now starting to link some of the moves together. That has it's own learning curve :) ....but I'm getting there. It's amazing the amount of help the simulators are. Confidence comes alot easier when you have many hours sim time under your belt......but sims just don't have that same "pucker factor"....and trust me...I've thrown away plenty of "messed shorts" [:D]. The hard part is respecting the other fliers in the air during busier times...I usually really have my fun either early before a bunch of people show up.....or after the crowd has left. Cap

RE: HOW-To..3D maneuvers
I totally agree, the coupling is not linear, so it depends on your speed and angle of attack during this. The only way to somewhat rectify this is to program a multipoint mix....for me, thats too much trouble. I prefer to "feel" the plane during this maneuver and lean slightly on the sticks ever so gently to make corrections. I also like to enter these from what I call a "death slide" ( not sure if that's really what it's called). Basically I start climbing to moderate altittude and set up almost like a stall turn. But instead of staying on the rudder until the nose is pointed back to earth, I give full opposite rudder, a bit of elevator initially to get the plane pointed straight back at me in a knife edge attitude, and start slightly easing on the throttle...but not too much. I want the plane to basically do what looks like a knife-edge elevator. Now, as the plane gets closer to the ground (this is the part that takes some nerve) I start really leaning on the throttle with the rudder still burried just long enough for the plane to stop losing altittude. Once this happens I start easing back off it to maintain a hight alpha KE at a constant altittide across the field. The transition from falling to level flight is where throttle mangement is key. I've almost lost my plane more times doing this than any other maneuver......but it sure looks cool. Here are 2 vids.....The first one was from November. A bunch of HA knife-edges,etc. At that time I had a smoke system and ALOT of dead weight on the plane. The second was from 6/4/2006. I thought I would share them with you....but be gentle, this is only my second full season since getting into this awesome hobby.
