RE: OUTLAW from EXTREME FLIGHT
I just did a maiden flight on my Outlaw yesterday. My set up is an OS32SX with a Macs Muffler, Hitec 485s. With the recommended throws, no expo, it was a handful. Landed it cut down the low rate from 40% to 26% and added in 15% expo it was much easier to handle. The initial settings were way too much for me to handle. I'm going to fly again today and get used to it's characteristics before I flip on the high rates. Dave

Thanks Nitro, I will. This is a used plane that has been flown so I hope that is not an issue. Dave

RE: Extreme Flight RC Yak 54 - 74 inch!
Not sure if anyone is paying attention to this thread anymore....... I just bought one of these used. It's in great shape. It has a DLE 30 installed. I don't currently know how to fly 3D I'm a sport flyer. So I was balancing the plane to the forward of the CG (6"). To get it to balance at this point I needed to add 8oz of weight in the nose. I was just curious if anyone else has run into this? Dave

RE: F27 Stryker Part 9: Crazy DARK SIDE - Beginners to Dark Extremes
ORIGINAL: moparmyway Sometimes you have to see it to believe it, and this is one of those cases. Take a scrap piece again, paint on a layer of your favorite epoxy (that isnt a 1:1 mix) and then heat up the foam. Wait 3 days then see how stiff it has become. The idea is to paint, then popcorn every piece of foam possible, then let it sit for 3 days without touching it.
Mopar, when you say "that isnt a 1:1 mix" what exactly do you mean? Do you thin the epoxy out with alcohol (like in fuel proofing) to assist with the painting of it? BTW the Mega came in so I'll start with the mods to stryker shortly. Dave

RE: F27 Stryker Part 9: Crazy DARK SIDE - Beginners to Dark Extremes
Thanks for the good advise. For now I'm in a holding pattern awaiting the Mega. In the mean time I'll re-enforce the wing with CF and change the trailing edge.......Probably will use balsa rather than bass wood. Will add balsa elevons. Not sure if I'll HTE the wing or leave it be. More to follow. Dave

RE: F27 Stryker Part 9: Crazy DARK SIDE - Beginners to Dark Extremes
Sorry Dave, but where did you get the idea that there is glass and thinned out epoxy on that build ? I have never thinned out epoxy ................. There aint no glass on that build eithor. The glass is for all out record breaking straight line speedsters !! I use epoxy, painted on, then heated untill the foam "pops" a little. The resin soaks in and forms a 3D matrix. Much more solid than just painted on epoxy. Not as strong as glass, but also MUCHO lighter !!! We routinely use regular gas props, just balance and make sure the numbers face forward. **EDIT** Since you ordered your MEGA 16-25-2c, then I feel obliged to tell you, .......................... You can also run it on 4 cells for some additional speed fix's !!
Mopar, I got this from your post #183 in Part 8. That's where I got the idea of glassing the bottom: **please remember the bottom of this Link this word and every other one like it in our forum to YOUR Website! fuse is fully glassed. It only took 1/2 hour and a small acid brush with epoxy and 1/2 oz cloth. I only added 4 ounces of weight to the entire plane, and she hand launches just fine at 1/2 throttle as seen and heard in the video. I believe the situation most dudes find themselves in when going real fast is they run out of stick trying to keep their fast Strykers running straight. I did run into this also with this build, but when I glassed the bottom only, it has so far ELIMINATED this phenomina. I believe the airframe bends/distorts and fast speeds, causing the needed right stick inputs. Glassing (the bottom only) now allows the foam to keep its shape without distorting so far. This build now flies pin straight at speeds over 130+ mph !!! All I did was glass the bottom and I picked up 10+ mph and no more right/up stick needed at full throttle !!!!!!!!!!
ORIGINAL: moparmyway
ORIGINAL: Captain Terrific Thanks again, is there a comparable motor to the 16-25-2c? It looks like a 30-45 lead time for it. I can wait but then again would rather not. 5. 2 pieces of CF left and right along the leading edge, they are not joined.
Capt, There aint no equal !! Throw on a 6x4 Sport prop with your setup now and see how she flies
ORIGINAL: moparmyway
ORIGINAL: Captain Terrific 1. I'd like to get at least 100 mph. 2. I'd prefer to use the batteries on hand but if needed will purchase others, ESC: It has a Venom V series 120A (V-1376). 3. I'll buy another motor, obviously from your comments the one included is a POS. 4. Have launched a hand launched a pusher. But have hand launched an EDF

RE: F27 Stryker Part 9: Crazy DARK SIDE - Beginners to Dark Extremes
ORIGINAL: moparmyway What kind of speed are you looking for ? Do you have any restrictions (cell count, ESC rating, limited to battery already on hand) ? Are you willing to spend $$ on a motor, or batteries, and how much will you be spending ? Have you launched/thrown a pusher before ? Is there any strengthening mods already done to the airframe ? You can allways run 2 cells with a 6.5" Pylon prop.
1. I'd like to get at least 100 mph. 2. It has CF on both left and right wings. Noting running up the center. What will 2 cells and a 6.5 prop get me? The motor is rated for a 4.1 - 5.5 diameter. So would a 6.5 stress it. Also why not run the 3 cells batteries I have now. I looked at your set up, seems to me if I got the same motor I would need to change anything else. Dave

RE: Corona R8FA 2.4Ghz Fasst Compatible Receiver
Heat. this post from another thread " Well I thought the same thing and ordered about 9 of the Orange receivers. I also buy a lot of other stuff from them. this time I think I got burned. I had one in my Ugly stick [Gas powered] and I lost it on the fourth flight of the day. I could not at first come up with an answer After the crash everything appeared to be working "normally". I had really liked the Orange receivers, as they worked or appeared to work fine with my 10C using the Futaba Module. I chalked it up to "Unknown Gremlins". About a week later I was at the field with my P-47 which had another Orange receiver in it. I flew the morning and had about three good flights with it. I was packing up about non and had to turn on the receiver to cycle the gear up for break down and discovered by accident what the problem really was. I fly in the southwest which in the summer is warm. The receiver in the p-47 cut out after it was on about 20-30 seconds. I verified this at least four times more with another pilot as a witness. Once it cut out the only way to get the system to work was to shut everything off. Just turning the transmitter off and on would not get it to work, the receiver had to be turned off and then it would again fail. I have traced the problem to be a heat problem. I verified this in my shop and found that ALL of my receivers would cut off at about 130o. This was on all my 9 receivers !!!!.. It does not take much sun on your plane to get it to 130o. It is like putting the receiver on an oven. Funny that although they say their Orange receiver is not a Futaba copy it sure also duplicates the exact problem Futaba had a few years ago, isn't that a coincidence !!! I checked the Orange results against Futaba receivers and also the Corona 8 Channel sold also by Hobby King. The Corona receivers never lost lock or shut down even when the temperature was 220o. Another friend who is also an RC Pilot has checked his Orange receiver in his shop and came up with the same results. So beware, the receivers look good but looks are not everything. I guess they would be OK to fly if you live in Alaska or Siberia or someplace where it is colder. I have since removed them all from my airplanes.. As a side note i tried to put some comments such as the ones above on the Hobby King web site under reviews and or discussions about the Orange receivers. Mysteriously they always have a software problem and it will never post. I guess their negative filters is better than their receivers. Again BEWARE they are not what they appear. " Flashpilot

Thanks for the feedback. I bought it with the ESC and motor. I thought the guy knew what he was talking about....... what size batteries would you recommend? Also the only reason I bought it was for speed so what size moter/battery combination would you recommend for that? Based on what you've said I'm not going to achieve what I want to with the current combination. Thanks, Dave

I recently bought a styrker (c version). It came with a Himax 2825 3600 inrunner and venom v series 120A ESC. It has a 5.7x3 prop on it. Motor Specs: HA2825-3600 Kv = 3600, Rm = .025, Io = 1.4, Efficient Operating Current = 15-35A I purchased one 11.1V 4000mah 20c and two 11.1V 4400mah 30c batteries. Do you think this thing will be quick? Dave

RE: 1/3 BUSA Super Cub Build
Ron, I believe moisture activates the Gorilla glue. Before capping the bottle after use squeeze the bottle until the glue is at the opening then cap. This keeps moisture out of the bottle and will keep it from drying up on you. I've had that happen. Dave
