RE: BRIO Electric 10-size
I just got my Brio 10 at the LHS yesterday and so far I am not impressed with this ARF. 1. The covering is badly wrinkled and very loose probably the worst I have ever seen on an ARF. 2. Despite how loose the covering is I still had warps everywhere. I was able to fix them after several hours of work. 3. The wing alignment pins were way off from the alignment holes requiring drilling a new hole on one side and replacing one pin because it was install crooked. 4. Numerous cracked and broken balsa parts especially around the canopy and turtle deck. 5. The 2mm wheel axle bolts were of such poor quality that I couldn't even get the nuts to thread on due to malformed threads. I replaced them with 2-56 bolts but this required modification of the wheel pants to clear the nuts. I bought this plane because I wanted a quick build that I could fly this week end. With all the modifications needed I will be lucky to fly it this month (yes I know I'm slow).

RE: Aileron flexing on Deb
Lets not forget the best way to solve this problem! Use 2 Servos! If you put servos on the underside of the wing in the center of each aileron span you will not have this problem even if you double the width of the ailerons. It will also make it much easier to put the rubber-bands on if the push rods aren't in the way. Just because the plans say to do it one way doesn't mean you have to do it that way. SPADS are all about experimentation so if the way somebody else did it doesn't work for you try a different way!

Most of the people who have had flutter problems with spads have had a little bit to much motor installed. With a set of big ol floats hanging from the bottom providing drag he will probably be OK. emailbanter: You fooled me your wing looks like all 4 mil in the photos. You also didn't bother with the fancy closed in wing tips which fooled me again. Too bad we don't live close I'd like to see her fly. Good Luck!

RE: CorPlas "spadet" float plane
You cheated you should have made the floats out of coro too! Just kidding it looks great! I'm a little curious why you didn't use the Spadet Wing. You probably couldn't get any 2 Mil Coro. It's a shame no matter how good it flies it would fly better with the Spadet style wing, I've tried every style there is and the wings made with 2 mil on top perform the best. Also watch out for aileron flutter. When you use a single servo in the middle of the wing the tips of the ailerons will sometimes have to much flex in them and will flutter at high speed. I've started using dual servo's in the bottom of my wings. This also looks better and makes it easier to put the rubber bands on without the control linkages in the way. Don't forget to post this in the SPAD forum too. I'm sure everyone will appreciate it.

I have to agree with the TT Pro .46 as a definite yes. I have never seen one that didn't run perfectly. I have seen a few others with GMS .47's that didn't run properly but I have always been able to adjust the engine myself and make it run correctly. These engines seem to be all over the place as far as how they are adjusted when you take them out of the box but if you are experienced at adjusting a glow engine you will think they are worth the money.

RE: DEB maiden flights today...
If your going to build a second wing for sport flying than I also suggest taking most of the dihedral out of it I also wouldn't try to make it fully symmetrical Just let the leading edge lift a little when you are gluing it and sort of make a semi symmetrical airfoil this way you can shim the back of the wing to get the proper incidence. Cutting a wing saddle out of the PVC fuse greatly weakens it and I guarantee thats where it will break if you doink it. If you do cut it glue in a yardstick doubler on each side.

RE: and I thought I knew it all
Ok ok o...k I'm going to go full speed ahead with this endevor . I have chosen to build the debonair .
Good Choice! That plane will definately show you how good a few pieces of plastic can fly. There are a few modifications I would make that could help you avoid a few af the problems that can arise. 1. First of all you don't have to use the wing or build it the way it shows in the plans. I have used 3 different wings on my Deb, The first was the wing from the plans. It was a good wing for a trainer type aircraft but didn't do aerobatics real well. The second was the wing from the Hell On Rails. This is a great wing and is as tough as nails it is more aerobatic and has more lift (made it a little harder to land) but is my wing of choice. There used to be a set of plans just for this wing on [link=http://spadtothebone.com]spadtothebone.com[/link] but I can't find them since FrankC redid the site. The third wing I used was the one from the Spadet. This is the best flying wing I have used but it is also the most difficult to build as it uses 2mil Coro which many people can't find. 2. Many people encounter aileron flutter with this plane regardless of which wing you use. There are many ways to stop this but by far the best way is to use a separate servo on each aileron with the servo and horn in the middle of the aileron. Putting them on the bottom of the wing will also give you a cleaner look. This also has the benefit of getting the aileron linkages away from the Rubber Bands making wing mounting much less of a pain. 3. You may also wish to change your DEB over to a tail dragger instead of using trike gear.

RE: engine question
gms u say have more power than TT????
Chris is correct that the GMS.47 will make more power out of the box than the TT .46. The muffler that comes with the GMS is virtually identical to the Hobbico\Tower muffler. This muffler creates a great deal of power on either of these engines but comes stock with the GMS. You sound like you are fairly new to setting up and adjusting glow engines. You will find the TT to be easier to set up (The factory settings should be pretty close). I have 4 GMS .47's and their factory settings where all over the place. 2 of my GMS's came with the low end setting set extremely lean. Almost every other 2 stroke I ever bought came with the low end set slightly rich. They all run great now though. I think the air leaks experienced by some modelers were several years back. I have seen dozens of GMS engines run at my club field and all of them run great.

RE: engine question
My vote would be for a Thunder Tiger Pro .46 as my first choice. Using a Tower/Hobbico muffler on this engine will add 500 to 1000 RPM. My second choice would be a GMS .47. The GMS is a little cheeper but the TT is probably the better performing engine. P.S. I've never owened a Super Tiger engine that I actually liked. I find them difficult to break in and adjust. I've met other flyers that swear by them I just swear at them.

RE: Debonair Flutter Problem
This is the far from the first time that someone has had flutter problems on a Deb. You might want to try checking thought past posts. I much prefer using dual aileron servo's on all my spad wings. Coro just doesn't have the stiffness to be able to put your linkage at the root of the aileron and expect that the tip won't flex and cause considerable flutter. If your linkage is in the center of the aileron it has much less flex available. If you use dual aileron servo's you will also be able to install them on the underside of the wings which looks better and will get the linkages out of the way when you are trying to install your rubber bands. Tattoo: since so many newbies are building the Deb I would like to suggest that you or Frank add something to the plans to address the possibility of flutter and how to stop it.

Hey Wizzie Long time no see. We really are going to have to get together and fly some time, we seem to like the same kind of planes. RE: Why no Downthrust/Sidethrust in BUHOR?
My opinion would be that isn't worth the effort it would take. You could cut your motor mount with a little side thrust and put a washer under the mount to give some down thrust but I'm not sure you would notice the difference when done. If you put in too much of either you will notice it but may not get the plane on the ground unscathed. The BUHOR has been flown by many people and I don't recall ever hearing anyone ever comment on the need for thrust correction. I built mine like the plans said to and it flew great until it had an encounter with several corn stalks.

RE: Loosening stiff ailerons?
I also experienced flutter after using the slit method. If you think about it, it really doesn't make much sense to cut slits in the hinge gap. The balsa guys go to great lengths to seal the hinge gap to improve responsiveness. We already have the benefit of a sealed hinge gap so lets keep it. I now use the sanding method and with dual aileron servo's no more flutter. I use 180 grit sand paper on my Black and Decker Mouse sander. Just go slow and don't use too much pressure.
