RE: Jetcat P200SX question
Mark, you need to do the "reset session". Hold down the "manual" button, increase the throttle slowly from idle to full, keep it there for 30 seconds, and slowly decrease the throttle. When at idle, release the "manual" button (you will see a "storing parameters" at some point) This learns the ECU the max needed pump voltage to reach the 112K RPM (holding the "manual" button pressed bypasses the loop in the ECU) EDIT: The "manual" button is on the old style GSU, can't remember if it is "spool" on the new GSU

Did the maiden last weekend of the "little Foamy" [:D] Nice with a plane that you can lift in one hand, bring it to a table on it's nose, and check if everything i perfect order [;)] I ended up gluing the wings to the fuselage (as per Henke's recommandation), it's much "stiffer" now on grass

Just re-surfaced after a nice JetPower weekend [:D] Great flying, great models (although I also missed some of the nice scalemodels from the last years), lots of new toys presented at the show, but above all: Nice to talk and shake hands with all the friends you make in this hobby, had a blast [:)] Will be back next year for sure (as well as my wife, this was the second year she was with me, had a great time also!)

RE: Exchange time for bearings
ORIGINAL: Xairflyer Older turbines will be 25hrs newer turbines will be 50hrs mainly due to the turbines now being balanced to a higher level which in turn makes the bearings last longer.
That is not the explanation I got from Max Reinhart at JetCat Germany! The 50 hours is if the engine is running in a "clean" environment (university/test fixture etc), the 25 hours are for "normal use" ie in a model jetplane (because of sand/grass and whatever they "eat" in that environment)

Thats great Mark!! Looks really nice, and I don't care if the scheme is not scale, the fullsize boys should copy your scheme for once [:D] (PS: I have a brand new unflown Ultra Lightning with everything I can bring with me to JetPower, fancy a trade [;)])

I'm always running the default on my JetCat engines, and using positive expo on my transmitter (Futaba 14MZ/18MZ) On P160SX I usually run about +25% and on my P200SX around +40%

RE: Tomahawk-Design Bae Hawk 1: 3.5
Craig! I will have to make sure my Hawk does not see any pictures of your Hawk, otherwise I think it wil be ashamed [:D] Your building style and attention to detail is out of this world, period! Regarding the landinglight in the nose, mine switches on when gear is going down, and off when up. When the gear is up, I have a switch so I can switch it on (looks kinda cool when flying around with it on [:D])

@A343: Oh yes, they are nice (and very bright) [:D] @Scott: Thomas is right, remember to keep the cooling "tower" on the "permanently on" lights, otherwise they will selfdestruct in a few seconds @fifi: I have also had DS4 lights, it was the old system which was...not so good [;)] The new one I think also have a fan mounted, and is VERY big. I'm not installing a lightning system that needs a fan anymore, at least not in 2012 [:D]

RE: Lighting system question....
Scott, there must be many places stateside you can get those resitors ("RadioShack" in the old days, don't know if thats still around...) The LED is maybe harder, however it is a 3W SEOUL emitter, so it could be possible just to swap the LED itself if you can source one locally, otherwise emcotec in germany can probably get one to you quickly ? http://shop.rc-electronic.com/e-vendo.php?shop=shop&SessionId=&a=article&ProdNr=OPT4260&t=2006&c=2050&p=2050

RE: Lighting system question....
Scott, what resistors are you using ? If you used those that came with the set for the Hawk, you are supposed to use 1S only as supply! If using 2S LiPo (I do that on the Hawk), you need to use 6.8 Ohm for the nose, the 2 strobes and the green tiplight. The red tip needs 8.2 Ohm instead. As the resistors need to consume A LOT of power because of the high current and voltage accross them, you need to use resistors with a fairly high wattage, I have used 10 watt ceramic resistors in my Tomahawk Hawk, it is far from needed (with respect to wattage), but I want to keep the resistors "cold" so that if they touches a cable or a air tube they wont melt them...

RE: Tomahawk-Design Bae Hawk 1: 3.5
Nice collection you have there Scott [8D] Here is a video of my first flight on the hawk, (sorry for the boring flight), I was so nervous that I couldn't remember the flight afterwards [:D] The wind was a little high, around 8 m/s (almost 30 km/h) and was at 30 deg to the runway. I did not have flaps on for the landing (which I have learned was not optimum)

RE: Tomahawk-Design Bae Hawk 1: 3.5
It is very docile, I provoked it at safe height, no problems, just a slight nose down at stall, and it was flying again. The problem was that I applied a little rudder while too slow, it immediatly went over. The vortex generators are at the angle given in the skin of the wings. There are no mixes on it (also no mixing on elevator with flaps). It is however, nose heavy, but I don't think that should generate the problem I saw. Next time I will keep the speed up [:D]

RE: Tomahawk-Design Bae Hawk 1: 3.5
Latest update, I have crashed my Hawk [:(] But not to worry, new parts are already ordered from Tomahawk, a new nose section and new wing [:D] It was completely my fault, I came in to slow at landing, and made a slight adjustment on the rudder, BANG, it tipstalled violently. The nose looked like something from "roadrunner" and one of the wings was crushed at the tip. Two positive things came of this: 1) I got to look into the wing, and could see the nice work inside 2) I will never do this again [:D] So, back up on the horse, just hope that spare parts can be delivered ASAP! A few pictures from the Hawk when it looked nice [:D]

RE: Tomahawk-Design Bae Hawk 1: 3.5
Thanks again guys [8D] @Scott: The flight went well, the plane flies very! slow [:D]. We had around 30..40 km/h wind at maybe 25 deg on the runway. No bad tendencies, slowed it down to a crawl, the plane just gently lowered the nose and kept flying. Landing was ok (for the first landing [;)]) I will upload some video in a week, currently at a flyingfield for the rest of the week. It is quite noseheavy at the moment, the CG is set between 310 and 325mm as per the instructions on the CD ( it dumps the frontwheel pretty fast when I push the tail down and let it go) As the whole flight was not that fast, the doors stayed closed all the time, if there will be any problems when going fast I still don't know, but so far it looks perfect. The gears worked perfect too (I have a single JetTronics valve only), I use a Festo restictor on the gear-down line so it doesn't slam when extending. The valve opens fully in the other direction (so the release air when doing gear-up can escape without restriction) The plane needs a P200 in my view, it takes a lot of power when just flying around doing nothing special, I found myself above 1/2 all the time, and quite often at 3/4 or full power. When going to idle, the plane stops very nicely in the air [:D] @MarcS: Oh yes, will be at JP again, I'll come by, and if I see you in the "brennkammer" I'll buy you a couple of beers [8D]

RE: Tomahawk-Design Bae Hawk 1: 3.5
The Hawk has flown [:D] All went well, despite shakin knees [;)] I used the throws from the CD, as Scott said, the elevator needs more throw, and the ailerons also. I will have to play a little with that. Gear all worked perfect, I have adjusted the setscrew about 7 mm out from the bottom, this seems to give a perfect "sit" on the ground. More pictures/videos etc when I get on a better network, for now just a picture of the proud owner and his plane [:D] Thanks for all your help and support guys!

RE: Tomahawk-Design Bae Hawk 1: 3.5
@Sverrir, no problem, just move your butt over here and we will go flying [:D] @Scott, thanks a lot, I will use that as a starting point for the elevator, although it is a bit more than Tomahawk writes (+46 / -35 mm). When seeing Victor Calvo's videos on youtube of the hawk, there is a lot of movement when landing... How mch expo are you running on ail/ele ?

RE: Tomahawk-Design Bae Hawk 1: 3.5
@Kasper: You know I will always trust you my planes [:D], but you will have to surrender the Hawk to me in a few days [:D] @Scott, all inputs are more than welcome [:D] (the 6cm throw on elevator, is that measured at leading or trailing edge ?) I assume that neutral is when the trailing edge is on the dividing line of the elevator cover ? I have put the CG in the middle of the two numbers given by Tomahawk on the CD (between 310 and 325 mm), hope that will be ok... It took more or less exactlly two months to finish it for painting, and yes, I have been quite busy with it, but if this thread hadn't existed, or if I had not had all the super help from you guys, it would not have been possible (at all!). So a big thank you all [8D] The last week before Kasper got the plane for painting, he was staying here at my house for 4 days, and he helped A LOT (50 hours or so) to make the canopy/cockpit, which was a lot of work, and some things had to be figured out along the build. Luckily Kasper is a real pro builder (as well as a super painter and pilot), so I did get a lot of help with that! @MarcS: It's your small gadgets that puts the extra touch on the install, all these little things that you perhaps could do without, but using them makes it soooo much more nice and easy !!

Thanks Guys [;)] I'm really looking forward to get it in the air, probably with shaking legs [:D] Any "last minute" recommandations regarding CG, throws, and maybe elevator compensation with the two flap positions ? Also, the new spring update to the main oleos, do you just removed the spring in there, and substitute with the new stuff or (got mine a few days back, and havn't looked at it in detail yet...) ?

So, my Hawk has just been painted by my friend Kasper Holger (CarbonsCustoms here on RCU). He did a wonderful job, although I have not seen it in real life yet, but should get my hands on it in less than a week. He sent some pics of the plane during the process, hope you like it (paint masks etc etc from Ralle/Tailormadedecals)

RE: Tomahawk-Design Bae Hawk 1: 3.5
So the Hawk is finally finished, almost exactly 2 months since I picked it up [:D] Had a friend visit me for a few days (Kasper Holger "CarbonCustoms"), was really nice to have one to help with the last details (the cockpit has quite some work in it!), he was also helpfull when checking CG and so [8D] It will now go to painting, anf if all goes well, maiden in 3 weeks time [;)] PS: I have also ordered the new main gear spring set, not yet received though I would really like to thank all of you guys, I have had huge help from you all, Craig Abbott, Scott Marr, Remco, Marc Scully, Mark Schoeder and Maikel Butler (hope I didn't forget any!) and of course Thomas from Tomahawk Design, as well as all the other persons who have contributed to the thread about this marvoulus plane [:D]
