RE: Super Tigre
ORIGINAL: MetallicaJunkie I found a really good deal on a Kaos with a ''vintage'' supertigre on it. The seller sent me a pic of it and maybe you can see the engine. What makes it unique is that the muffler has a conical indention in the front. What year did these ST's come out?
Look like a ST-60 RC. I still have one in the box. Nice baffle-piston engine. I think that's an aftermarket muffler though. CR

RE: o.s. 160fx starter
will these batterys last all day long or do they drain quickly Thanks Tim
The Battery in mine is a 15 Amp hour AGM. depends on how much you use it I guess. They're meant to start cars/truck with dead batteries. I cranked up a balky ST 3000 with it at the field half a dozen times before I got it tuned right. You'd only need it once a day on you OS 1.60 if it's tuned right. I also use it to run battery chargers at the field when I'm flying electrics. I got this one on sale at Lowes. It says Black & Decker on but it's made by Vector Products - Veco13BD- 450 Amp Jump Starter. It may be discontinued now. You can find jump starters at Wal Mart, Home Depot, Lowes and just about any auto parts store. I looked for one without the tire pump and light. Also looked for 450 Amp burst in order to get the 15 AH battery. Gotta read the specs. [;)] CR

I ordered this one on the recommendation of a guy whos said he's starting a G62 on 12 volts with it. It's the 6:1 gear reduction that does the trick. The 3" cone helps too. CR

thinano, The model specifications call for a 23 - 26 cc engine (MVVS 26cc suggested). Perhaps you need to look up the specifications of an available 26cc 2-stroke and try to match an available 4-stroke to them. CR

RE: Problems balancing wood props??
ORIGINAL: N1EDM I never seemed to have an issue balancing a wood prop before. Lately, over the past couple of years, it seems to me as though the wood props are more out of balance that I've ever noticed before. Is this just me, or have those of you using wood props noticed that they're more difficult to balance within the past couple of years? Thanks for your input, Bob
One of the things I hate about living 65 miles from the nearest hobby shop it that I have to get wood props by mail order rather than being able to pick out the straight-grained ones from the display. As it is it's a crap shoot. [&o] Pro Zingers tend to be pretty good, though. Also MA wooden props. There are others if you want to research and spend the dough. CR

RE: 4-strokes/ up-side down!
ORIGINAL: Yellowbird1 Does the 4-stroke engines run good and not bog down or quit up-side down. I don't have any experience with the 4-stroke and know the 2-strokes have issues with this problem. Please respond. Thanks!
All inverted model airplane glow engines share one malady, no matter how high they are mounted in relation to the fuel tank. This is that oil can pool in the glow plug between engine runs. You can combat this problem by mounting the engine in the & 7 o'clock position when viewed from the front. In a 4-stroke at 7 o'clock, if you position the prop so that the exhaust valve is open you can sometimes get the excess oil to run out the exhaust valve. Either 2 or 4 stroke, inverted installations invite an hydraulic lock. I've run 'em upright, inverted, sideways & in between. I like sideways (9'oclock) best. [:D] CR

RE: Conversion to Gas?
ORIGINAL: av8tor1977 You can certainly convert it... The trick is whether you want to convert it to run on less oil as well. You can just buy an ignition from, for example www.ch-ignitions.com and run it on a mix of gasoline and 12% oil. If you want to lower it's oil requirment as well, that takes more work. You have to change the rod bearing from a bushing to a roller bearing. For this, search info from Ken Lambert. Here's his website: http://lambertsrc.homestead.com/ Good luck, AV8TOR
In my experience, you can run less oil in gasoline without converting to needle bearings. Consider: I ran the Saito on a 16:1 gas to oil mix. 16:1 gas to oil = 1/16 oil = 6.25% oil. What must be understood is that the gasoline contains oil, so you can lower the oil content in the mix. CR Edited for typo.

Currently I'm running the ST 3000 on E85 ethanol/gasoline and the CH ignition. Had to lean the needles considerably from the settings for methanol/nitro. Using 12% oil in this mix. Getting about the same power on the E85 as I did on methanol. Might try it on glow with a hot plug. CR

RE: 2.4 module questions
ORIGINAL: tohm Alan is correct on all points. Tony Ohm HItec/Multiplex USA
There are detail differences between the manual descriptions and what really happens. I have my module in an Eclipse 7 Tx. When the power down mode is entered the module starts beeping rapidly and both LEDs flash in time with the beeping. This continues until I push the button again to exit power down. I haven't needed 90 seconds to do a range check so I've not let it time out. We've had a bit of info exchange on the antenna in another thread. It would appear to be a coaxial dipole, so the antenna is both the fat cylinder (balun) and the exposed stub. I'd suggest that you fly the Rx in a carbon fibre fuse with only the stub exposed and see what happens to the telemetry signal at, say, sailplane ranges in altitude. CR
